Report: Jason Pierre-Paul injured in fireworks accident

For many of us, last night was a chance to blow off some steam, if not some fingers.

But Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul might have gotten a little too close to the action.

According to Andy Slater of WINZ in Miami, Pierre-Paul “severely injured” his hand in a fireworks accident last night.

A woman who said she was his neighbor tweeted out a photo of a “truck load of fireworks,” showing large boxes in a van.

Details at this point are few, but this could potentially have a huge impact on him and the Giants, as he hasn’t signed his franchise tender worth $14.8 million, and they’d have a tremendous lack of pass rush without him if he missed an extended amount of time.

  1. NFL owners must cringe during the doff season when they see their multi million dollar employees doing really stupid things and or getting arrested

  2. I never accused NFL players to be the smartest human beings. Here’s more proof.

  3. I’m so done with this guy. All of his posts on social media are about hard work and respect, yet he skips mini-camp and now does this.

  4. As for the tweet, “Jason Pierre Paul rented out a whole uhal van full of fireworks and I’m currently scared for my houses safety”

    Talk about attention seeking.

  5. accidents/bad luck type of things happen. wouldn’t matter if your in the NFL or business manager, or store clerk. a bunch of people were hurt by a firework accident in Colorado yesterday who were only watching a fireworks display run by a profession fireworks expert. So all this “NFL players are stupid” is petty jealousy over the fact he plays in the NFL

  6. The brilliance of NFL players is only surpassed by an American electorate who voted Obama into office TWICE

  7. Too bad it didn’t happen to my neighbor. His dog “goes” in my yard all the time and they don’t clean it up; and now they are illegally shooting off fireworks, leaving my dog in severe panic. Fireworks are illegal in Florida unless it’s for building a railroad, a public display which requires a permit, or registered farms using them for pest control.

  8. Only thing worst than partially blowing your hand off messing around with fireworks is not signing your $14MM franchise tender before doing it.

  9. We know very well that they don’t go to colleges for the sole purpose of earning degrees. If they didn’t have athletic ability, they wouldn’t be able to get into four year colleges at all. That’s not a reflection on their intelligence, which is inborn, but on the poor quality of their prior education.

It’ll take The Grand Old Party to save the disaster this country has become.

You mean the same one that has gotten us to this place? That’s like me a Knicks fan saying, I want Isiah back.

  11. Uncanny, I’ve made a post stating that I wish JPP made more noise
ON THE field as opposed to his quotes before and after games. Between statements and him being the ” leader” for the defense.
Along with holding out.wirking hard and not making a BIG sack in
2 plus years, Giants brass must be fit to be tied

  12. What an idiot. Any adult with a brain knows that fireworks are dangerous – and no matter how benign some may seem, you don’t bother with them.

With that said, the New York Nightmaras continue to reap the negative karma their horrendous and unethical behavior has been with regard to going after the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys for violating nothing – there never was a salary cap in an uncapped year and it was the Nightmara family that sought this punitive punishment.

I’m sorry the idiot is hurt, but this proves he is an idiot and idiots have bad thing happen to them as they deserve.

  13. dickshotdogs…just how did they get us in this mess? Six years of Obama and Dem control of congress, an fawning press for libs, and you think it’s the GOP? You are what’s wrong with America.

  14. Goodell might have to ban Miami in the offseason. Seriously, JPP, Quarless, Kaep last year, the Browns WR who killed a man with his car, Incognito strip club meetings with Oline, etc…

  15. Hard working people sit,in front of their big screens every week and root their hearts out for these freakin idiots

  16. Bet ya Dez either signs his Franchise tender or agrees to a long-term deal within the next 48 hrs. You never know what life is going to throw at you and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

  17. The latest report has him at North Broward Medical Center. He is reportedly has flesh missing in different parts of his hand along with partially missing fingers.

  18. We all make mistakes. Let’s not kick a guy when he’s down. It is a tragedy not a crime.

I guarantee you don’t work as hard as jason pierre paul.

  20. Defensive linemen can play with their arms and hands taped up to the point where they’re practically just clubs. Maybe he can still play.

I love all the people on here immediately passing judgement on him, as if they’ve never made major mistakes in their lives.

Get well, JPP, from an Eagles fan.

  21. The brilliance of NFL players is only surpassed by Republican presidential candidates.

Yeah, almost as brilliant by Hillary??

    “What difference does it make”?

  22. It is really funny how these posts end up turning into being a team republican vs team democrat thing. As if the two parties aren’t just the appendages of the same puppet master. It cracks me up watching people take sides in a two party system like they are rooting for their sports teams. It is disturbing and shows a lack of critical thinking amongst the general American population. Keep rooting for your political team, while the real answers lie far away from the paradigms these politicians have you thinking in.

  23. Just yesterday at a 4th of July party I had suggested that anyone buying fireworks should be required to have insurance.

The thought was inspired by how dry it was in our area. And how shooting off fireworks can often cause house fires that inevitably fall back on the home owner or their insurance. While the irresponsible party shooting off the fireworks walks away without taking any responsibility for their actions.

Pierre-Paul renting a U-Haul truck so he could fill it with fireworks is a perfect example of someone who should have been required to have insurance. Of course he would have needed a Lloyd’s of London policy to cover that contract, but nonetheless…

  24. I hope he is okay, and not just because I root for the Giants.

But, according to Wikipedia (so take this with a grain of salt), “n Minnesota and Florida only consumer fireworks that do not explode or fly through the air are permitted to be sold to and used by residents.” In other words, JPP might have committed a crime as well as suffering injury.

This could be the end of his time with the Giants between injury and illegalities.

    ==============================

This is the same flawed logic and misguided understaindg of how the world works that has people believing dinosaurs roamed the earth with people 6,000 years ago.

  26. He’s gonna look pretty silly trying to sign that free agent tender with no fingers. #Darwin2015

  27. So. .. He’s the same variety of low budget moron as the ones setting off m1000s near my house last night.
They’re essentially explosives, similar in force and gas expansion rate to a hand grenade. With no frag.
    These idiots deserve missing digits.
I was a 12B demo guy in the service. I wouldn’t do what they do.
Idiots. No sympathy at all for J.P. Paul
    None.

  28. Celebrating another person’s demise says more about the judging that it does the one being judged.

    Just sayin’

  29. “dickshotdogs…just how did they get us in this mess? Six years of Obama and Dem control of congress, an fawning press for libs, and you think it’s the GOP? You are what’s wrong with America.”

Yeah I hate it when the economy improves and more people have access to healthcare and civil rights are expanded. Obama sucks.

Completely agree. The people actually in power like to play up this Dem vs Rep thing (along with other social issues that really have no impact) to distract us from the real problems (i.e. separation of wealth).

  31. Do you not recall that the mess Obama inherited from Bush was a Great Recession that was rapidly spiraling down into the next Great Depression, and that Obama, in conjunction with Congress, kept that bad situation from getting worse?

  32. I do not know what the firework laws are like in Fl . Here in WV they sell mortars and big bomb type fireworks but, you have to have an out of state license to purchase them. It really sucks.

Fireworks are way cooler than fingers anyway.

  33. I don’t know what is a higher level of stupidity…Someone getting hurt lighting off his own fireworks, or people turning the comment section into a political debate over this…

  34. Leave fireworks to the professionals

Really, those same professionals that launched rockets into the crowd in Colorado?

Fireworks explode for a reason. No different than a suicide vest. Just hoping for a different outcome.

  35. Should have signed that Franchise tag huh. Dude is all talk 24/7. No heart , no desire. Can’t wait for the Giants to cut all ties. Send him to Oakland.

  36. If I’m the Giants, I’m withdrawing the franchise tender and letting him become a free agent. No team is gonna touch this guy, at least not during this season with part of his hand missing.

He had $14million on the table for 1 year and blows it all for a truck full of fireworks.

  37. I can barely remember my twenties but it seems to me this could have been most any of us. Get well soon sir.

  38. I wish him all the luck with his recovery, and hopefully it is as quick and complete as possible.

This sounds like it could easily be a huge blow to their pass rush. Their D-line was suspect already, and now this? Selvie and the rookie Odighizuwa are up next, and may make for a rotation at RDE. Selvie was solid 2 years ago with Dallas when they picked him up off the street, but he basically disappeared last season. Let’s see what Spags can get out of Selvie, but I doubt it is any more than what Marinelli got out of him.

Cue the “I didn’t want him back anyway this year” fair-weather Giant fans……..

  39. It takes about 8 years for a economic plan to impact an economy, therefore, anything happening right now, was started about 8 years ago. Any economist worth his salt knows this, these comments shutting on Obama, just reinforces why the world over, the citizens of this country are called Americants, you believe whatever the T.V. tells you as long as it jibes with your POV. Just sad…

  40. I don’t know, I kind of enjoy witnessing the non sequitur that often is PFT’s comments section. If you don’t get a chill down your spine from the stunning audacity of how parochial some’s world view’s are, then you aren’t paying attention.
