Russell Wilson’s abstinence sparks ESPN in-house Twitter fight

On Monday, a lengthy interview with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at a San Diego church generated plenty of headlines. The biggest headline (elsewhere) was that Wilson and his current girlfriend, Ciara, aren’t having sex, because God told Wilson not to have sex with her.

The comments have invited a wide range of opinions. Within ESPN, they have provoked a Twitter fight.

Bomani Jones questioned the wisdom of Wilson’s position on ESPN’s Highly Questionable. And ESPN’s Chris Broussard quickly responded.

“Regarding Russell/Ciara u implied people trying to do it Jesus’ way by waiting till marriage r stupid,” Broussard said. “U owe all Bible-believing Christians trying to live as Russell/Ciara are an apology.”

Jones refused to back down, saying “not today” in response to Broussard’s demand for apology and then elaborating on the position.

“I think americans value chastity in a way i find silly, problematic, and ultimately, counterproductive,” Jones said. “I don’t apologize for that.”

Jones makes a very good point as it relates to the potential consequences of chastity — people (like Johnny Dangerously’s kid brother) getting married before they really should, so that they can have sex.

“If i was a 22 year-old virgin i would have hastily gotten married cuz…yanno?” Jones said on Twitter.

There’s other thought-provoking stuff on Twitter from Jones, which will definitely invite further debate among Christians who believe that premarital sex is forbidden and who successfully practiced that ideal, Christians who believe that premarital sex is not prohibited, and Christians who believe that premarital sex is forbidden but who nevertheless had it and/or are still having it.

For ESPN, the bigger problem is that a pair of its employees are squaring off on the subject, with Broussard firing the first shot and Jones being both candid and respectful in his replies. If ESPN is going to have shows that are heavy on opinion, ESPN perhaps needs to better inform its employees to handle any complaints about any of those opinions internally, not through social media.

  1. Russell is divorced. What part of the bible is that covered in? Mind your own business and keep your beliefs to yourself.

  2. There’s been a thought process that religion more than ever is under attack by ideological left, who has made them appear to be the new “weirdos” after years and years of manipulating popular culture, while a liberal media and Hollywood and ESPN are giving awards for courage to people like Michael Sam or Caitlyn Jenner.

    There’s another group that probably says I’m not really bothered by it, just quit shoving it in my face whenever and wherever I turn on a TV or radio or log onto the internet.

  3. I love how liberals mock everyone else as being close minded and intolerant when libs themselves mock and shout down (and try to get fired) anyone that has a different point of view than themselves.

  4. Those pesky ten commandments…..what part of “Thou shalt not commit adultery” Do you not understand, Bomani? Yes, kids, Fornication and adultery are the same thing in GODS eyes.

  5. Maybe Wilson’s discussion of their intimacy is best left between the two people in the relationship instead of in a public forum. Successful (intimate) relationships don’t tend to have one of the parties publicly revealing their private parts. pun intended

  6. First, Wilson is just fine for sharing his story, his views. He’s not imposing his will on anyone else. Second, if anyone is ridiculing him for his beliefs, they should look in the mirror at the trainwreck their own lives are. Third, it’s a bit sad today that rumors and discussion flies where ladies might have to respond: “OMG, they think we’re NOT having sex! What are we going to do.”

  8. I think the liberals are not as upset that Wilson isn’t having sex as they are that it’s not with another dude. They want everyone to get off Michael Sam’s….case….but then fling it all around at Tebow and now Wilson. Russell Wilson just climbed up a few notches in my book.

  9. And there are also hordes of bible thumpers who believe that the earth is only 10,000 yrs old. If it wasn’t for that pesky science.

  10. I don’t really care if Wilson is having sex with his girlfriend or not. And I don’t really care about his religious beliefs. I wouldn’t have any issue at all but it seems like God has an unusually high number of talks with Wilson over relatively meaningless things in the grand scheme of things. I’d think God would have bigger fish to fry than Wilson’s sex life and him tossing a pick to lose the super bowl. He’s really starting to come across as a huge egomaniac, IMO.

    “I love how liberals . . . ” There is nothing in this article about politics. Why go there? It has nothing to do with Wilson.

  12. NFL QB, millionaire, twenties, hammer of a GF, speaks his mind…and people want to point and laugh at HIM? And the alternative is what, Johnny FF.

    Some people don’t get it.

  13. Biggest problem I see out of this is Wilson’s ego is getting ridiculous. He’s an average QB that wants to be the highest paid player ever AND God talks to him?

    Wait for it…

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

  14. Many people seem to have an insatiable need to justify their own behavior by criticizing others who behave differently. This Jones person is offended by Wilson’s decision because he doesn’t want anyone implying that his own behavior is wrong.

  15. I see no problem with either expressing their respective opinions. I do question Broussard deciding he speaks for all “bible-believing Christians” in demanding an apology.(BTW what is a bible-believing Christian) Can you be a Christian and not believe the bible?

    I applaud Jones for taking his position and not kow-towing to Broussard’s crazy demand. I have found that many Christians commit all kinds of “sin”, only because they know they can get forgiveness just by asking. That’s problematic.

    As for Wilson, some things should be left unspoken.

  16. Russell and Ciara may both be using each other.

    She gets to restart her career and life as a model with a line of fashion-designer clothes as she steps out with a good-looking guy who is willing to dress up in matching outfits and be a spokesman and marketer of anyone and anything.

    If you watch them closely they are both newbies at this level of celebrity. They have and will make lots of mistakes.

    BTW, Wilson’s interview was broadcast on a Christian video feed/network. He gave them what they wanted to hear and see.

    This guy is a marketing machine. It’s too much for most of us, but are we really surprised that “Youth is wasted on the young.”

    When has anything ever good come from Twitter?

    Or Seattle

    Chances are you are typing on a computer using Microsoft while sipping on a Starbucks coffee and listening to Nirvana. Afterwards you will play your old school Nintendo and think about your trip on a Boeing plane to visit family. Other than that your right…nothing good comes from Seattle.

  18. Who do you think is going to have a better life at age 45? 50? 55? Who will be alive at 60?

    Russell Wilson or Warren Sapp?
    Peyton Manning or Donovan McNabb?
    Gerald McCoy or Ray McDonald ?

    You get the point.

  19. “Jones makes a very good point as it relates to the potential consequences of chastity…”

    I don’t see you mentioning any of Broussard’s good points, like how other people’s religious views should be respected. Stop trying to squeeze in your agenda and just report on the damn story. And this is coming from someone who is not religious at all.

  20. Waiting for the inevitable moment when someone claims their “freedom of speech is being violated” because other people are calling them an idiot and making them feel bad about their opinions.

    We might disagree on a lot as a country, but we should all agree to nip this fallacy in the bud. You have every right to express yourself, and I have every right to shout as loud as I like when I say how dumb I think you are.

  21. Anybody ask her how she feels about this?

    She dated Bow Wow, 50 Cent, and his Future’s 5th baby-momma.

    Something tells me she didn’t just have a come to Jesus moment .

  22. Hey, hookersdontsnuggle, heres a message to you and all atheists, GOD said “you are fools, morally deficient, you’re lifestyle is vile, you’re ignorant, corrupt, filthy, abominable, and inconsiderant.”

  23. This is where “conservatives” demonstrate, at the very least, their confusion and often their utter lack of understanding of, well everything. Generally speaking, conservatives are the more religious types, we have, in this instance, a religious type demanding the apology, as opposed to a liberal demanding someones job. There are any number of examples I could give on the “ideological rights” hypocrisy and intolerance isn’t broached in the first chapter.

  24. She won’t have sex with him until he gets a new contract.

    Then it’s Hee Haw

  25. The big news should be that we have a human being who can literally communicate with the creator of the universe. Can someone ask Russel what god sounds like? Is it, like, a man’s voice? Does god ever say anything about, you know, issues that might matter in the grand scheme?

  26. Russell sounds like he is becoming a bit of a drama queen

    I would guess the vast majority of people dont care one way or another if he is having sex or not

  27. When has anything good ever come from Twitter or Seattle?

    Chances are you’re typing on a Microsoft computer sippin a latte from Starbucks wearing a pearl jam tshirt sitting in your moms basement stocked with Costco goods and a Greg the hammer valentine poster on your wall.

  28. I love how liberals mock everyone else as being close minded and intolerant when libs themselves mock and shout down (and try to get fired) anyone that has a different point of view than themselves.

    ——————————————-

    I love how “compassionate” conservatives find any way to bash and stereotype a liberal or anyone else who disagrees with them.

    Jesus Christ is my Savior and I am also a Liberal…this is between Mr. Russell and his girlfriend. The individuals weighing in via ESPN are out of place addressing this couples private life.

    Judge not, lest he be judged…..

    Can we finally get to some real football talk on Profootball Talk?

  29. I miss the old days when we didn’t know so much about people.

  30. Every time lil’ Russ’ opens his mouth, he appears more tool-like and less like-able than he was before. He should abstain from talking…

  31. hookersdontsnuggle, I couldn’t get that in a post if I tried a thousand times, but I digress. I couldn’t disagree more with your statement. It doesn’t bother me that someone believes in God. What sends chills down my spine and should bother you is, someone suggesting that God talks to them directly, then they divulge what God has said to them. That’s good enough reason to keep one eye on them at all times.

  32. When God spoke to me, he confirmed that, yes, in fact, he HAD spoken to Russel recently, but He couldn’t remember the exact day.

  33. So Broussard is to blame? Am I missing something or is Bomani Jones not being intolerant towards one’s religion? I know the libs see the double standard they just purposely ignore it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Wilson’s wife was cheating on him. That is covered in the Bible. I happen to believe only in the Old Testament, but it’s covered in the New Testament as well:
    Matthew 19:9 ESV
    “And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”
  35. So now Russell Wilson is going to get the ‘Tim Tebow’ treatment, because he ‘came out’ as a practicing Christian. Fascinating world we now live in…
  41. Search Youtube for Ciara’s lap dance with a fan, on stage, in May. Wilson may not be getting any, but that fan sure did.
    Ciara and Wilson are from different planets.
  42. Some of you on here are blatantly mocking God. I hope you come around on that, or you’ll deeply regret that. And yes, Christians are the only group that it’s PC to bash.
    For those of you who keep referencing how badly some Christians have screwed up marriage…you’re right, they make mistakes like everybody else, but do you really want to set the bar so low? Whereby however bad people screw up at something, THAT is the new standard to aim for??? Other peoples’ mistakes have nothing to do with my integrity, or lack thereof. We’re all responsible for how we live.
    Russell is divorced.
    So, if he wants to disclose his religious beliefs publicly and makes statements like these, he will be subject to ridicule.
  44. Religion aside, if more people abstained until marriage there would be a lot fewer problems, fewer kids without parents, less spread of disease, fewer relationship problems, etc. It doesn’t have to be labeled as religious or political.
  45. It amazes me how many people go crazy that RW “talks to God”, and they get all huffy puffy because “God talks to him”.
    God’s voice is your inner monologue. Some people have just compartmentalized it into something more removed than others. Psychologists have studied this at length with many studies going both ways and basically making it a wash. And I can understand why some people might think that’s the behavior of a schizo. But it’s not. There is much more involved in the diagnosis of schizophrenia. But it’s important to realize that our society actually encourages people to find God and talk to “Him” or else lie about talking to God so you’ll fit in with all the other religious people. But at the end of the day we all talk to ourselves. And many religious people feel that some part of that inner monologue is the voice of God.
    But the most important part is to realize that Russell Wilson is a persona. The real Russell Wilson probably won’t ever be seen because he has such a strong desire to portray himself in a specific manner. But to any sane human being it should be fairly obvious. He does love God. And he loves making kids smile at Seattle hospitals. And he loves to win sports games and he wants to be paid like the best. I don’t blame him for any of it.
  50. Russell Wilson hit a home run with the demographic that Christian talk show is aimed at. Go look at the religious org’s website and read the comments.
    People of all ages will be wearing their own Russell Wilson jersey to church this year to make a statement.
    Moms will be able to talk about him with their kids, without feeling slimed;
    the Candie Foundation will soon call Wilson to let him know they will need a new spokesman to promote abstinence now that Bristol Palin’s quarter million dollar contract won’t be renewed.
    This guy is a marketing machine. Last year the Seahawks suggested to Wilson that he tone down his off-field promotional activities.
    This year he barely has time to dance with Ciara because his dance card is full. And you know what? he sleeps only a few hours a night.
  51. For everyone who says God has more/better things to do than to talk to Russell Wilson, you all are apparently oblivious to one very important fact: God is the ultimate multi-tasker.
    You guys can barely drive and talk on your phones at the same time.
  52. Bigotry against Christians has become hip and not considered bigotry. For some reason. Sad times we’re living in.
  53. Quality studies show that abstinence doesn’t work. It delays sex by a few months and since people (usually teens) haven’t had any actual sex education they don’t use protection or don’t use it correctly leading to…bingo…increased risk for pregnancy and STIs.
    If we weren’t so sex negative in this culture we might actually make some strides on this, instead many of us listen to what a bunch of dudes may or may not have said (considering most of the new testament was written at least 80 years after jesus died – if he ever existed) while they were running around the desert.
    I guess you could listen to that guy with schizophrenia from upstate new york or the science fiction writer with the 737s. I think I’ll choose science.
  54. so people complain about people becoming more promiscius, but God forbid someone doesn’t take part in it.
    if your mocking someone for not having sex before marriage, you should probably re-evaluate your priorities.
  55. As a Christian, I do not agree with Bomani, but I do not object at all to his expressing his opinion. What I dislike is when people claim to be Christian, and then live their lives in open defiance of Biblical teaching around matters like drunkenness, sexual immorality and greed, while ignoring the teachings of humility and charity toward those in need.
  56. I’m starting to miss those articles about Deflategate. At least it had something to do with football.
    Think we’ll know something soon?
  57. The problem I have is not that he believes in a giant sky wizard and wishes to appease his wizard master at all costs, my problem is he thinks he is so special that out of the 7 billion people on this earth, many of whom are disease ridden and starving, Wilson thinks the sky wizard has time to care where he puts his weiner. Not only is he dumb, but he is an unbelievable narcissist.
  58. Microsoft and Boeing, they haven’t participated in anythingshady.
    Nirvana, like biggie, forever made infamous by death more than talent.
    Dont get me started on the beastquake. That replay enough is an example of how watered down the NFL has become, when 11 professional athletes cant take down a running back who is by no means close to a HOF running back.
  59. Concerning genocide – All religions and beliefs throughout time have their hands red with murder most especially Atheism, Communism, Socialism to name a few.
    Attaching Gods’ name to murder does not equate God to the murder, just as many people use the Lord’s name in cursing.
    Did Jesus tell you to use his name in cursing or any way other then thankfulness, prayer & praise? Of course NOT.
    Everyone will give an account to Him who sits on the throne for what we have said and done with our lives. His Forgiveness is to ALL right now – do not wait until it is too late.
  60. This is narcissism in its purest form. In his mind he is god so when he talks to himself he believes he converses with the almighty himself. That pick will be his downfall he is already starting to crack.
  61. I am mocking him…and you for that matter and will continue to do so without evaluation
    (BTW what is a bible-believing Christian) Can you be a Christian and not believe the bible?
    ________
    Many denominations don’t believe everything that’s in the Bible, picking and choosing what they will believe and won’t believe based on what seems right to them. A Bible-believing Christian believes the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God, written and preserved through the Holy Spirit so that we can know exactly what God wants without having to guess. That would eliminate the need to have God speak directly to you.
  67. Mike, with all due respect, regardless of what position one holds on this topic, Jones was NOT respectful in calling people stupid on this one, and Jones fired the first shot. I may disagree with people, but I don’t call people stupid on subjects like this.
  68. Those who disagree with him will chastise him for “waving his religion in their face”. I hope those people stay consistent with their opinions when encountering other celebrity commentary.
  69. Actually, I can’t remember the last time I called anyone stupid in any debate/argument. Definitely not good. Don’t like the idea, attack the idea, not the people. Talk long enough, and the person calling others stupid will be deservedly on the other end of that insult.
  70. Not that anyone is keeping count, but I weep for humanity and I’m giving 3-1 we don’t make it 500 more years, at least not with anything remotely recognizable to what we have here today. To my Christian friends, if they can count, I believe Jesus walked this earth. The problem I have, and I’m no mathelete, but if you’re waiting for a second cominng, it happend already. How many times do you expect someone to rise from the dead twice?
  71. so he gets made fun of for not having sex and impregnating numerous unwed mothers . He is annoying with all his god chats but he should be propped up as a role model for this stand he is taking .
    I think he may want to tone down the god is on the line again act but his work ethic and attitude would work wonders for many. People mocking religion should be mocking the messengers and not the message . The message for the most part is awesome but gets twisted and bastardized by those with an unpure agenda.
  72. God sure does talk to Wilson an awful lot, perhaps next time Rusty could use his pipeline to ask about why children are dying or how to end wars? It seems awful narcissistic to only use this ability for his own personal petty issues.
  73. While as a Christian, I think it is beautiful that Wilson and his girlfriend are not having sex as that is what the Bible says to do, it is really very personal and should not be discussed on a forum. It has nothing to do with football and its personal. Why air dirty laundry. Leave it at the laundromat.
  74. Since recorded history began, there have been over 2,800 documented gods and deities. There has likely been three times that number, with many lost to annals of time.
    So when someone declares that Jehovah or Jesus or Allah is the “One True God”. I find it hard to take them seriously. Over 2,800 gods and your one god just happens to be the real one and all the rest are fantasy? What are the odds?
    Every one of those gods was a “True God” at some point in history. Now, few if any are still worshiped, or even remembered by 99% of the world’s population.
    If history carries any precedent, the current gods will have their time in the sun, and eventually fade away or be replaced by whatever gods come next.
    I’m hoping for the gods of science, reason and common sense, but I doubt humanity will get that lucky.
  75. There is one factor that is the most common among the prison population in the U.S. Is it race? NO. Is it economic status? NO. Is it the lack of a male figure in the household? YES.
    Too many dudes, regardless of race, are getting girls/women pregnant and playing no part in the lives of the children they create. If a guy like Wilson is going to put himself out there and advocate for abstinence, maybe there will be a few kids who think twice before they decide to spread their seed without any intention of taking responsibility for the outcome.
  76. Imagine that! In an interview conducted in a church of all places, Wilson said that he and his girlfriend are practicing abstinence. And he also said in the same setting that God is active in his life.
    What is the world coming to when a Christian takes a stand for Biblical concepts of abstinence before marriage and a God who is present at all times and all places?
  77. 1. How did society come to such a state that a man who expresses his intent to sacrifice to obey what he sees as God’s will is reviled for doing so, and what could be the motivations for those who feel the need to criticize?
    2. I didn’t read that Wilson said “I don’t intend to have premarital sex… and those of you that do are Godless sinners damned to burn in hell” but even if he had said that, how are his critics any better for saying in effect ” well I think you are an intolerant hypocrite intent on imposing your ideology on others”? I think people need to keep in mind that there are places in the world where people are being burned alive for refusing to practice fundamentalist Islam. In an age where lots of people feel compelled to share details of their daily life and perspectives on social media, being offended because a Christian indicates that he does not intend to have pre-marital sex with his girl is beyond thin-skinned, it is pathetic.
    3. And on the subject of accusations of hypocrisy, is there any group on this planet other than Christians whose members are accused of hypocrisy for practicing their faith because they fail to practice it to perfection? No one is without sin. Everyone makes mistakes. Being a Christian is not about having a “get out of jail free” card. It is about having a relationship with Christ so as to understand and help live a more Godly life. Doing so does not mean that you will not sin, anymore than being a liberal doesn’t mean that you won’t occasionally have an intelligent thought 🙂
  78. Wilson will need two contracts from the Seahawks: one for him, and one for his ego. Seriously, hearing this guy proselytize, whine, boast, brag and generally put himself ahead of the game puts me in a state of mind I never thought possible: I miss hearing about Tebow.
  79. “I love how liberals . . . ” There is nothing in this article about politics. Why go there? It has nothing to do with Wilson.
  84. Nothing like having faith in hate based mythology. But the most pathetic part is that he thinks a magic sky fairy is talking to him. The same fairy that he must thinks gives children leukaemia. Yes, Russell you are exactly what people hate about your religion. Just pure ignorance. I bet his IQ is lower than how many touchdowns he threw in the Superbowl.
  85. So we’re supposed to take the word of a 3rd banana on a 2nd rate show?
    Last I knew there was more to a relationship than the sex. Maybe the reason the divorce rate is so high is people didn’t bother to work on the other aspects.
  86. how can you be a liberal and a Christian?
    liberal ideas do not line up with Christian values.
  87. when he says God spoke to him, he didn’t mean literally.
    it was an impression deep inside. Unless it’s ever happened to you, you don’t know what he is talking about.
    But you have to be a faithful believer and follower of Jesus Christ. A true believer and not a fake. Jesus knows what in your heart.
  88. God will continue to bless him or her who follows him and follows his word and speak out in favor of him in public.
  89. so let me get this straight…if he came out as gay he would be heralded a hero…there would be parades in his honor..but if he says he is Christian and trying to live the best life style he can and be a positive role model for todays youth(which is sorely needed), then he is this horrible person and is being dragged thru the mud…that makes absolutely no sense at all..
    wow just wow….idiotic people never cease to amaze me.
  90. Also, what’s funny is that Bible thumpers are here crying about being persecuted when I’m pretty sure that’s the opposite of what the central figure of your religion would be doing. Bible thumpers though seem to do a lot of stuff contrary to what the central figure of their religion would have done. Also, Jones was pretty tongue in cheek with this, pretty much saying that he was simply hating and not being serious because he wishes it was him with Ciara. It’s called having fun with a topic. Hey, but everything has to be so freaking serious for some people, which is why this country is a mess and has been for a long time. Lot of hypocrites that can’t see the irony in how their actions never line up with Christ’s actions or that they’ve been manipulated pretty much in the same manner as the Muslim terrorists have around these cracks in exploiting the weak minded who will use religion like you need to go to war everyday instead of doing what your own central figure expected, just live by his teachings without judging others.
  91. Celibacy is a personal choice as is talking to God. However, getting a reply is delusional, I don’t care what you say.
  92. Both sides of this argument should be ashamed of themselves.
    First off, disagreeing with someone’s belief is not the same thing as persecuting them for it. I can disagree with the wisdom of Russel Wilson’s choice without belittling his faith. I can express my beliefs and expect not to be belittled for them. (Matthew 7:1-3, John 8:7)
    Second off, no one of true faith would try to claim they know what God does or doesn’t want. (Romans 11:33)
    Third, if you do not believe in God, that is your right. You can disagree with the teachings or trappings of Christianity. However, if you profess to believe in logic, reason, and science, then you should behave as such. Providing a reasoned argument does not include using fallacies.
    Finally, if you are a person of faith, but not of the Christian faith (this also exists, despite what many would have you believe) take a look at what your own faith says about passing judgement on other’s actions.
  93. You see, that’s the problem with religion. The devoutly faithful see everything through a religious lens. While most others are comfortable with life’s secularism and accept that, even if they practice thier given faith. It doesn’t have to be an either or proposition, unless you choose to make it one. More often than not, I would expect most decent people to take offense to religious persecution, wherever they find it. That being said, I don’t necessarily see religious persecution in mocking someone who says God has spoken to them about whether or not they should be bumping uglies.
    There is one factor that is the most common among the prison population in the U.S. Is it race? NO. Is it economic status? NO. Is it the lack of a male figure in the household? YES.
    I’d be willing to bet you pulled that out of your keester and the “most common factor among the prison population” is that they miraculously find religion.
  95. voight444,
    Yeah, also think the central figure of your faith was apolitical, but hey, most Bible thumpers don’t actually follow those teachings they cite so much, so there’s no surprise here. Now, tell me more about how all real Christians are conservatives and exactly where that is in the Bible when I’m pretty sure that the central figure of your religion shunned any type of government affiliation, lol. Too funny that you don’t realize this in your haste to get to making the point that you actually want to make from your own feeble-minded beliefs and thus reinforce why people hate Bible thumpers.
    Since recorded history began, there have been over 2,800 documented gods and deities. There has likely been three times that number, with many lost to annals of time.
    So when someone declares that Jehovah or Jesus or Allah is the “One True God”. I find it hard to take them seriously. Over 2,800 gods and your one god just happens to be the real one and all the rest are fantasy? What are the odds?
    Every one of those gods was a “True God” at some point in history. Now, few if any are still worshiped, or even remembered by 99% of the world’s population.
    If history carries any precedent, the current gods will have their time in the sun, and eventually fade away or be replaced by whatever gods come next.
    I’m hoping for the gods of science, reason and common sense, but I doubt humanity will get that lucky.
    Jesus is not God, never was and never will be, he is the Son of God according to Christians. God is Jehovah or Yhwh, and Jesus is Yeshua.
    The “gods” of science and reason can coincide with Christianity, as being a scientist myself, the key is empirical evidence, inquiry, and gathering and collecting the essential data to analyse. It does not mean that christianity cannot coincide with science, it just depends on how christianity is used
    Now can we get back to football please?
  97. “For ESPN, the bigger problem is that a pair of its employees are squaring off on the subject, with Broussard firing the first shot and Jones being both candid and respectful in his replies. If ESPN is going to have shows that are heavy on opinion, ESPN perhaps needs to better inform its employees to handle any complaints about any of those opinions internally, not through social media.”
    Really?? ESPN loves this. “Embrace the Debate.”
  98. Really tired of Christians whining about being persecuted.
    You/they are not the be all, end all.
    But, whatever helps them sleep at night.
    Carry on.
  99. As luck would have it, God told me that I should have sex with Ciara. I’ll be over in a half an hour – sorry Russell, God likes me better.
  100. Jesus is not God, never was and never will be, he is the Son of God according to Christians. God is Jehovah or Yhwh, and Jesus is Yeshua.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Jesus said this about Himself in relationship with the Father, God.
    If you have seen Me you have seen the Father.
    My Father and I are One.
    You cannot come to the Father but through Me.
    No other name under heaven whereby we are saved other then Jesus/Yeshua.
    Before Abraham was, I AM.
    These are just a few.
  101. I really want to like Russell, but he’s making it hard to do. He’s from Virginia, as I am. I agree that he has the right not to have sex with his girlfriend–but why on earth would anyone ever consider marrying someone without ever having sex with him/her beforehand? That’s just plain stupid no matter what your personal beliefs might be.
    ACTUALLY, Christianity is supposed to be the following of the teachings of JESUS CHRIST, who rejected greed, violence, the glorification of power, the amassing of wealth without social balance, and the personal judging of others, their lifestyles and beliefs.
    He taught others to believe in and live a spiritual and ethical life based in our essential, inherent goodness.
    What Jesus promoted was succinct set of spiritual principals and a way of life based upon the of love,
    compassion, tolerance, and a strong belief in the importance in giving and of generosity to those in need.
