Study shows Cowboys have the best fans in the NFL

Getty Images

They haven’t had much in the way of playoff success to cheer for the last few decades, but that hasn’t stopped Cowboys fans from being a passionate, if not always sane lot.

And according to one study, they’re the best in the league.

Via the Dallas Morning News, Emory Sports Marketing Analytics’ 2015 NFL fan equity rankings put Dallas fans at the top of the heap.

“We focused on using hard data to determine which NFL team had the most avid, engaged, passionate and supportive fans, the website’s Manish Tripathi said. “By hard data we mean data on actual fan behavior. In particular, we are focused on market outcomes like attendance, prices or revenues.

“We use fifteen years of data on NFL team performance, ticket prices, market populations, median incomes, won-loss records and multiple other factors. We create statistical models of box office revenue, and then see which teams over- and under- perform the model’s predictions.”

While that feels like “which fan base is more easily sold to,” there’s no doubt between the scoreboard and all the associated glory hole, that the Cowboys are great at marketing. There are other places with louder fans, or fans willing to sit in crappier weather, or fans willing to endure decades of ineptitude without losing their passion.

But by the measure used in this study, the Cowboys’ fans are the best, followed by the Patriots, Giants, Ravens, and Jets.

The Dolphins were last on the list, with the Browns, Raiders, Jaguars and Bills making up the bottom five.

Are they right? I’m sure you’ll let us know in the comments.

  1. Then why is the stadium for cowboy’s home games filled with opposing team’s fans??

  2. I’m guessing that they emailed random people in every state and asked them who they thought were popular teams. You’re kidding right.

  3. So they focused on which fans spent the most money on their team. Sure, that’s a great measure of fan loyalty. Who commissioned this study? The Cowboys?

  4. HAH, this isn’t news to me or the rest of the cowboys faithful. America’s Team has and always will have the greatest fans. Tell (lie to) yourself if you want. But facts are facts.

  5. Every city in the country has cowboy fans. Except maybe Green bay. And the only reason the patriots came in second is because they give away tickets to fill their stadium. ” CHEATS”

  6. This is a joke. How does this study have the opposite findings of many other studies that have the Browns, Raiders, and Bills near the top of the best fan lists? Cowboys can’t even fill their own stadium with their own fans.

  7. Horribly off the mark. The Cowboys have better fans than my Titans, sure. But better than Green Bay fans? For crying out loud, they ranked the Bills fans at the bottom and that team has one of the most passionate, loyal and knowledgable fan bases in the league! GET A CLUE.

  8. Well, being willing to pay big money to sit in that vast cavern of a stadium and watch a team that has won 3 Wild card games over the last 19 years has got to earn them something. Interesting that this appeared in the Dallas Morning News, rather than some more disinterested publication.

Browns fans have to be the best. They fill the Factory of Sadness week after week, year after year; with no positive reinforcement at all. The last playoff game win had Art Modell at the helm, 20 years ago. Talk about a painful win!

  9. Cowboys have the best fans in the NFL while steelers have the best team in America but yeah that tells me cowboys fans how is Romo working out for the Cowboys O this off season

  10. No packers or steelers in in top five dumbest waste of time ever. Only 2 teams that I have ever seen visiting stadiums seem like home games for. Why not just go alphabetical next time make more sense

  11. These have to be the worst metrics possible to study “fanship”. Team record? Ticket prices? Market population?

Ohhhh you live in a big city? You must be rabid about your team!

  12. Also, you gotta give it up for people who wake up and put together great tailgates and spend money on tickets knowing that they are most likely going to lose.

  13. I never write comments; I am just surprised that the Bills fans were ranked in the bottom five. I just want to say that the Buffalo Bills fans that I have met among of the most loyal fans that I have met. The Bills hold the current title of having the longest playoff drought (15 years) and this year they set a new franchise record for season ticket sales. These fans bear the snow to tailgate and cheer on their team.

  14. With expanded seating AT&T Stadium holds the most people and most football games sell all of their tickets therefor they have the best fans.

    Nice joke of a conclusion.

  15. This comes as no surprise. Greatest owner in the history of sports. Greatest coaches in NFL history. More Lombardi’s than entire divisions. And the legacy of being America’s Team. This year’s SB win should really cement the title as greatest fans.

  16. Patriot fans have to deal with more crap from the media and the league office than anyone else.

  17. As a Dolphins fan I can agree with Miami being at the bottom. There’s a reason why so many tourists choose to go to Miami during the late fall and winter months and if a team in Miami is not at or near the top, the local residents won’t show at games.

What I find very hard to believe is that the top 5 doesn’t include Pittsburgh, Green Bay and yes, even Detroit. As poor as they were for so many years they still sold the stadium out each week until the last season of the Matt Millen era.

  18. NY Jet fans= illustration of losing for 46 years

Tickets on sale for the Silver Anniversary in 2019

  19. So no matter how much I suck as a human being I can always hang my hat on the fact that I root for a football team that someone says has the best fans. I AM THE BEST.

  20. When the Pats were first in the last study they wrote about (wins per dollar), they added the 2nd place NFL team (colts) to the headline (even though they were 6th overall LOL). When the Pats are 2nd in a study they leave it out of the headline. LOL the Pats hate is hilarious. Although it just reminds me of their dominance that much more LOL. ugh

  21. I’ve been to the Irving stadium and Arlington one. Only $60 for parking with a two mile hike to stadium. Not to mention the absurd traffic after. Loyal to a fault

  22. Toronto, L.A., Goodelle, J. Jones, and R. Kraft all believed that the Bills should leave Buffalo.

A husband and wife pair of fans said “No!” and put up $1.5 BILLION to keep them in WNY. The actions of these two fans alone (now fans/owners) alone should keep the Bills fan base in the top half.

Poser Pats fans who wore Aikman jerseys in the 1990s and Montana jerseys in the 1980s should not factor in just because their team cheats and sells out games.

And what kind of survey leaves Pittsburgh out of the top 5… for the Jets? Does Fireman Ed even still go to the games? Wasn’t he grousing about the PSL prices? Did the person who put this together ever experience a game in Buffalo, Green Bay, or Pittsburgh?

  23. Ticket prices, won-loss records and median incomes are “fan behaviors?”

  24. i have two teams with better fans: the Bills for 1 because they still sell out and are diee hard fans despite over a decade of losing seasons. and #2 is patriots, because even though their QB was caught red handed, they still defend him with every breath and refuse to see the truth. They are like Aaron Hernandez mother still saying he is innocent. Anyone that blind must be ridiculously dedicated to the team. Id like to see where these fans are in 10 yrs when brady is gone and the winning seasons are behind them though.

  25. Really?? I don’t think so. NO OTHER TEAM in the NFL would of continued to sell the number of season tix the Bills have even though they haven’t been to the playoffs for 15 years. Cowboys? Don’t make me laugh.

  26. Any minute now you will see the Seahawks fans show up in hundreds claiming they are the greatest fans. Unit a few years ago they were non existing. That’s why you see 3,12,24,and 25 jersey now because they don’t know any player that played here before now!!!!

  27. As an avid fan who spends thousands of hard-earned dollars a year to support a team that hasn’t won a playoff game since 2003 (or even been to the playoffs since 2008) it’s not lost on me that to be the “best” fans in this study of last 15 years, you must spend the most money possible, and it helps your ranking if you consistently spend it on an underperforming team.

So…here’s to you, Cowboys fans! You’ve earned it!

  28. Any list that places the fans of the Raiders,Bills and Browns at the bottom (who have supported their teams in the worst of times for a couple of decades now) and excludes the Packers from the top of the list should be immediately discredited.

Of course the Cowboys (who built a stadium with massive seating capacity and outrageous prices) and east coast teams (high ticket prices) will show up high on a list that looks at that criteria.

  29. Eagles fans as a whole are mediocre. I’m one the great ones but there are actually Eagle fans out there who doubt Chip Kelly who bring down the average.

  30. Bills at the bottom?? I don’t think so…most of NY loves the bills. I live 50 miles from Buffalo so I know….I would have loved if the bills won one of those SB they lost to the boys

    Coming from a boys fan

  31. Cowboy fans are great. So are Packer’s fans, Steeler’s fans, Raider’s fans and the die-hard fans of every team. Most of the largest and rabid fan bases exist because those teams had sustained periods of dominance. Most fans over 45 will identify themselves as fans of, (or used to be fans of), Cowboys, Steelers, Raiders, or Dolphins because when there were only 3 channels on TV back in the day, those were the winning teams and you got to see them more often. Then the 49ers had a big national following. You see it now to some degree, with New England, but it isn’t the same because anybody can watch any game they want and parity has given every team a shot at short periods of being very good, (ex. Cincinnati and Arizona).
I don’t know that you identify any one fan base as being “the best” but there is no disputing the popularity of both loving and hating the Dallas Cowboys. You only need to look at the number of comments below any article about Dallas on this website. I think this particular study simply identifies which of the largest fan bases spends the most money on team stuff. But nothing is going to pet the cat backwards like telling someone their fan base isn’t as good as some other teams, (especially the Cowboys!).
I think all true fans of the NFL have a lot of respect for all team’s die hard fans. Especially the fans of teams who haven’t won anything of significance in a half a century or so, (Cleveland, Minnesota, Philadelphia, etc.). And we reserve extra disdain for the windsock- the fan who pulls for the flavor of the month- the guy with the Joe Montana, Kurt Warner, and Tom Brady jerseys in his closet.
All in all- silly thing to try and measure but fun conversation to have while we’re waiting for the season to get here. BTW- Go Cowboys!

So instead of sniveling go ahead and post your own statistics.

  33. It was estimated that 23,000 Steeler fans attended the last Steelers/Cowboys game in Dallas.

Indy and Jax’s owners begged Indy fans not to sell tickets to Steeler fans because there are always too many at their home games.

Cleveland Stadium (aka: Heinz Field West) always has 15,000 fans.

No one travels as well as Steeler fans.

  34. It’s clearly not the Cowboys or the Bills, we’re talking about fans that support their team no matter how bad things are, not just in good times.

Having said that, the Browns are clearly the front runners, period.

whether you enjoy trolling the Patriots or just generally despise them, you really should get screened for obsessive-compulsive disorder.

  36. Truth, see you gotta understand with TeamCowboys, you’re born into last loving this team, through everything, good and bad we(TeamCowboys members) remain faithful to that star

  37. This list is an absolute joke.

Bills, Browns, & Raiders at the bottom? All 3 teams have been pathetic for more than a decade, and they still pack the stands. Hell, Bills fans have sold a record # of tickets this year and they’ve digressed at QB since a 9-7 season last year.

    This list is a sham.

  38. The fact this lists Cleveland and Buffalo in bottom 5 makes totally invalid to this long-time fan of NFL. Here are some teams FAR MORE WORTHY for taking up the rear than those two: – St. Louis – San Diego – Tampa – Arizona – Carolina – ATLANTA!! – Minnesota, even compared to those two. It’s easy to argue who in the top half, but even easier to see & know who belongs in lower half, and that definitely does not include the Browns & Bills. Please.

  39. You can have your “popularity” Cowboys fans I will take actually winning something over popularity any day.

    Signed
    Packers and Steelers fans

  40. Ridiculous survey, which doesn’t accurately measure anything. Jerry, you wasted your money on this. Watch the fan base who show up when the team is not winning ( Not filling your stadium with the visiting teams fans ). Look at the Home market TV ratings after the team has been eliminated from the playoffs. These measures gage real fans, not the bandwagon variety who don’t know who the long snapper is on their team.

BUT…. They can fill 31 other stadiums with Cowboy’s fans.

    Check and mate.

  43. The Browns have the best fans, no doubt! Most Cowboy fans are front-runners and in denial! (I live among them, trust me)

  44. @ iman62, ever been to western ny ? its probably one of the most beautiful places in the united states. thousands of acres of forests, the finger lakes and access to 2 great lakes. you shouldn`t say dumb things before you know what you are talking about.

  45. 1.Green Bay 2.Pittsburgh 3.Giants 4.Bills 5.Chiefs 6.Ravens 7.Jets
Lmao, Cowgirls can’t even fill a stadium. Green Bay has the smallest population of all NFL cities and still sells out. Cowgirls have been a joke ever since that goblin bought them.

  46. Remember the home game vs San Fran to start last season?

Even the announcers mentioned that there were more 49er fans than Dallas – a lot more.

Yes, great study. Lots of fans if they’re winning.

  47. I’m guessing the Dallas Morning News has Cowboy fans on staff but what they don’t have to guarantee them protection to cheat and win the super bowl is Mr. Goodell.

  48. “I’m guessing that they emailed random people in every state and asked them who they thought were popular teams. You’re kidding right.”

I’m guessing you didn’t read the article.

  49. I travel all over the US and South America for my job and I can tell you one thing for sure. Steeler fans travel better than any fans I have ever seen. Every city and airport I go to I see more Steeler Attire than any other team. I also see a lot of Steeler fans in the stands of other home teams when I watch games.
Yes I am a Steeler fan, but this is a fact.

  50. Please. Dallas fans are as fair weather as they come. they were nowhere to be found when Dave Campo was roaming the sideline or when Quincy Carter was under center. Heck they didn’t even come out from under their rocks during Garrett’s first few 8-8 seasons. But suddenly when they put up 12 wins and win a playoff game they’re the best fan base in football? Gimme a break. They have the most ridiculous, gaudy stadium in the history of sport and just because it fills up shouldn’t be an indicator of the overall fan base.

There are so many more loyal groups out there who follow teams without much history. A team who’s fan base contains a huge chunk of bandwagoners who’ve never even been to the state of Texas, let alone a Cowboys game, cannot be ranked #1. Try following a team with no Lombardi Trophies to brag about and see how long you last. Based on the “Non-Closeted Cowboy Fan” almost reaching extinction over the past 20 years, bc of consistent losing, I’d say guys would be following in the footsteps of the dinosaurs if not for this past season and that one 13-3 fluke with Parcells.

  51. Manish Tripathi’s formula is seriously flawed if he’s ranking the “best” fans and has the Browns and Bills in the bottom 5. The Browns haven’t won a playoff game since January 1, 1995 and have usually averaged about 5 wins a season since then but haven’t had a single TV blackout in those 20 years. Their fanclub spans the globe and has chapters in Tokyo, Israel and all over Europe & the United States. This is all despite their management/ownership being a complete joke for 20 years. Give me a break.

  52. 1. who cares – it’s a best fan poll.
    2. but my team (insert name of your team here) tells me all the time they have the best fans in the whole world and can’t win without us….

And no, I am not a Steelers fan.

  54. Good fans would have supported the running back that carried them to the play offs after a very long play off drought. Good fans would have been outraged he did not even receive an offer from the Jones.

  55. @muzikmann53

They can fill 31 other stadiums with Cowboys fans? Thanks for the imaginary stat.

Are you serious? The Patriots do not give away their tickets. They have sold out every single game since Kraft has owned the team and currently have a waiting list of 60,000 fans for season tickets who pay a fee each year to remain on the list.
But to me one fan base ought to get special accolades and that’s the fans of the Buffalo Bills who have steadfastly supported that team through bad times not only in their own stadium, but by travelling to other stadiums as well.

  58. Diversely derived data. Did you read the research study? So many of the negative comments are anecdotal and fail to address the elements of the study. When the Boys play, wherever they play – every other team in the league is blessed to pull in revenue we generate for them. Then there is profit sharing where a handful of teams carry the league. The ‘Boys are the most enduring and profitable sport franchise in America. Why? Example: we bring virtual reality to aid our players first…and now other teams follow us. This sport is highly competitive and dynasties are gone. Don’t measure greatness because a fanbase holds on stubbornly, in misery half the time, Your children see your disgust and flock to us generation after generation.

  59. This study talks about fan equity based on a revenue formula. PFT, not sure how you made the leap from that to it being a measure of the best fans.

Everytime you post your jealous hate of the World Champion New England Patriots shows through. Having never won a SB or been in the playoffs in years must be killing you. If I were you I would stay in bed all day.

  61. So to the people whining about there being visiting team’s fans at Cowboys Stadium. I suppose if you could sell your tickets for a game for sometimes up to 8x face value and almost cover your entire season ticket cost, you wouldn’t take advantage of that?

That’s why you’re probably unemployed and sitting in your mom’s basement right now.

Keep on hating though. You guys are the reason we’re the best!

  62. Pittsburgh has “fans” (notice the quotes) but I question their dedication, passion and intelligence. I’m not bashing, but I’ve met Pittsburgh fans that have never been to Pennsylvania much less Pittsburgh, couldn’t name their starting quarterback, and couldn’t tell me the last Steelers game they’ve seen on tv – yet they wear their black and gold into work on Friday’s during the season. When questioned about the reason for their “love” of “their” beloved Steelers I get responses that range from “my ex-girlfried from the 70’s was a Dallas fan and the Steelers were the only team that could beat them so I rooted for them” to “my son’s youth football team is called the Steelers.” And this doesn’t include the bandwagon fans that simply follow the hoard. I’ve been to games in Buffalo, Cleveland for example and have seen first hand the dedication and passion those fans show as they sit in the frigid cold as they endure another mediocre season. They may not be the wealthiest fans, be the most desirable demograph, the most numerous or well traveled but they are truly some of the most passionate and loyal fans that I have seen.

  63. Anyone that says Buffalo or Seattle should be taken out back and beaten. Seattle had no fans until their SB loss against the Steelers, and even then they went into hibernation until the skies were sunny again.

I’ve been to Buffalo and I’ve seen a 25% empty stadium with half Pats fans and half Buffalo fans.

    Best fans? In no order…
    Dallas
    Pittsburgh
    Green Bay
    New England
    New York Giants
    Kansas City

  64. By “Best” I think the study meant “Dumbest, most Obnoxious and least likely to realize it”

  65. No disrespect to the Cowboy’s fans, but again this is a computer model using manipulated data.

It is meaningless. The study does not say best fans it discusses a weird thing called Fan Equity.

Since population of an area where a franchise is located is a key factor in the model, a newly arrived team in Los Angeles would be rated higher than a smaller market team like the Chiefs.

A computer model can be built to say anything.

Obviously season ticket waiting lists are not considered in this “study” but should be.

  66. All of you that are saying band wagon fans must not know the definition of bandwagon….A bandwagon fan is one who attaches to a team simply because they are winning ..What have the cowboys won in the past decade????? Quit hating !!! We are the best!!!AMERICA’S TEAM ..# 1 fans now and always!! Besides why are you here worried about Cowboys media? YOUR TEAM ISN’T INTERESTING ENOUGH, THAT’S WHY!!! HAHAHAHAHA ..

    ===========

Let me guess, your experience with the NFL spans all of two decades.

The NFL has made a rule allowing fans to be penalized once, EVER, in 1989, and made it in response to Seattle fans.

    Look it up.

And help me with the math but I believe that was BEFORE any SBs.

You keep your imaginary honors, we’ll remain the toughest stadium in the NFL – ask the players.

  68. The criteria they used to show passionate fans include median income? Win loss record? Market population? How the hell do these things have any impact on fandom. Cowboys fans would probably be somewhere in the middle of the pact if you could figure out a good way to break down how diehard a fan base is.

  69. There is a Steelers bar in every single city of the 31 other teams. There are Steelers bars in Canada, Europe, and Mexico. How’s that for fan equity? Opening a business dedicated to the greatest franchise in the Super Bowl era.

  70. True the Bills ,the Browns ,the Raiders..ect.ect.ect have die hard fans about 9000 each.THE COWBOYS 275K + ALL OVER THE WORLD ….. GET REAL !!! $$

COWBOY COUNTRY !! $$ LONG LIVE AMERICA’S TEAM!!!!

  71. i have two teams with better fans: the Bills for 1 because they still sell out

Funny how the Bills were blacking out home games only a season ago. Would have blacked out more if not for corporate intervention buying tickets.

They also were 20th in the NFL in road attendance.

Also funny how the Bills couldn’t draw flies when they played only 70 miles away in Toronto.

You still want to claim they “still sell out”?

    🙂

  72. Next to a World Champion Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl rematch I’d love to see a World Champion Patriots – Cowboys Super Bowl.

Should be plenty of lulz watching football fans curl up and stick their thumbs in their mouths at the prospect.

    🙂

  73. There are no more dedicated fans than Browns fans. In all of SPORTS, not just the NFL.

We’re insane and delusional, but still the best.

  74. @winninainstsinnin
FACT- seattle seahawks jerseys sold more in 2013-2015 than 15 years before the dates combined …hahaha talk about bandwagon…..LOL you ,your team ,or your city are not even worth a mention in this big boys post…

Notice how I purposley did not capatalize your teams name !!

  75. I wouldn’t say they have best fans, I would more say the Cowboys were winning at the right time when life was all about family and TV games were really starting to pick up and they were the hottest team around… That left a significant impression because either you love them or you hated to love them and they spared know expense in advertising just that… Cowboys fans were made…Indeed….

  76. @colwater32301
Yas of course all fans are made …hahaha but they are made for a reason!!! The topic of this segment is who stands by their team ! I noticed how you failed to mention who your team was…”real fan u must be” maybe they just haven’t MADE ANY FANS YET !!!

  77. lol so many haters. It’s funny because Cowboy fans are the best and most passionate fans in the NFL. Now its official. Deal with it! Thumbs down if you are a Cowboys fan!

This is the first time I’ve ever agreed with Bob. This is really a study about how much you can screw with your fans before they stop giving you money.

  82. Fan Equity Premiums ? LOL It’s clearly a study based on which fanbases
get ‘ fleeced ‘ the most in exchange for their unwavering fan support
and loyalty to their team. Congratulations Cowboys fans, you win !!!

In this regard, Jerrah is a master salesman and doing mighty fine,
thank you very much. Keep paying those (highest) fan premiums,
Cowboys fans. I hope you stay on top of this list for many years
to come and prove just how …ermm.. loyal – that’s it Loyal y’all truly are.

  83. I agree with the Bills rating. They are only knowledgeable about their own team, they pay no attention to the rest of the league. They still think everyone should fear them, when really, they only had 4-5 good years over 20 years ago. Every year in July its “this is our year” then by mid-November its “wait until next year”. They get hammered as all heck at the home games, bunch of drunk buffoons. Its just a giant party for them. They are rude to other teams fans, fist fights in the stands, lots of swearing all game long even if there are kids around. And honestly, theres nothing to do in town on a cold wet rainy windy fall/winter Sunday, so of course they sell out.

I’ll get them angry with that, but its the truth. Lived among them for far too long and witnessed it all.

  84. “ever been to western ny ? its probably one of the most beautiful places in the united states.”

You need to get out of town more often. Its not even close to being that.

  85. Buffalo gets 10’s of thousands of fans from Canada every game, and rarely sellout.

That’s the truth, and as far as Western New York being beautiful, maybe to a blind man, maybe.

  86. I’m offended by the team name “Cowboys” due to their actions taken against native Americans in the past. Please change it.

    Kansas City
    …………………..
Any one who lists NE fans as anything but completely and utterly fairweathered should be discredited immediately. Pats fans are the biggest joke in the league.

  88. I’m a Cowboys fan and again another article designed (and apparently working) to make people hate the Cowboys. A fan since the 60s, I’ve noticed too many fans that get on and off the bandwagon when things get tough (1996 thru 2009). For the record, we hate the name “Americas Team”, and I personally think the Packers fan base is without equal.

  89. Oh yeah Jerra! I need a 160 foot big screen TV in my face telling me to “Get Loud!”
Dancing girls in all four corners with everything but a pole in front of them. 50 Ft Motor Homes lined up to tail gate. A night club that the players have to walk through to get to their locker rooms….. because the Cry Boy’s have the best fans!

  90. Holy crap cowboys fans are delusional. Your organization is a flat out joke if you ask me, and your fans are as dumb as they come!

  91. FACT- seattle seahawks jerseys sold more in 2013-2015 than 15 years before the dates combined …hahaha talk about bandwagon…..LOL you ,your team ,or your city are not even worth a mention in this big boys post…

    +==================

Because you start with FACT, doesn’t make it so. In fact, it’s factually incorrect.

However, your team, the Cowboys, let the Niners DOMINATE your stadium for opening game last year.

    FACT

That’s how you know fair weather fans.

  92. Haha this isn’t news. Of course Cowboys fans are number one. There is a Cowboys fans inside of EVERYONE. Some people push it down and hide it, most embrace it. Embrace it people, you will live a happier life.

  93. Hey Darren. Get your facts straight. You can’t just randomly make crap up like this. Dallas may be in fact # 1 but the rest of your list is completely wrong.

I know it’s not accurate because the Cleveland Browns has a backers association that was founded IN TEXAS! The Browns is the only team that has a backers club in ALL 50 states. There are even Browns fans in Syria and Sri Lanka. In fact, I once found a Cleveland Browns Backers club in Germany while I was traveling, so yeah um….

there is not a linear correlation between how a team sucks and their fan base loyalty, which you obviously tried to fabricate here. The Browns and Raiders fan base in fact are in the top 5. Oh Ohhhhh, BUSTED!

Lmao, Cowgirls can’t even fill a stadium. Green Bay has the smallest population of all NFL cities and still sells out. Cowgirls have been a joke ever since that goblin bought them.

    …………………………………….,,,,,,,,,,………………………………

Emory Sports Marketing Analytics also said the Packers fans are not only the most fanatical, but also the fattest and drunkest.

  95. This “study” is so bogus! It is based on Ticket prices… Not attendance, fan base size, merchandise sold. Nice to know that Dallas and NY Teams gouge their customers though? Read the Emory University Study. Imagine all these comments and not one person actually has the facts. Typical Americans… Full of anonymous opinion and no knowledge. No wonder we are ranked 13th in the world for everything except Obesity, Prison Population and Health Care Costs.

  96. why don’t they do a global pole and ask everyone to pick there favorite team? It’s not a freakin’ rocket science study. Ticket sales don’t mean anything, big market cities have more money to spend so this study is meaningless.

  97. The Green Bay Packers sell out every single home game since 1960 and have a season ticket waiting list of over 1,000 years and they’re not even in the top 5?

Not to mention the fact that the Browns, Raiders, and Bills all have great fans and shouldn’t be anywhere near the bottom 5.

This list is a downright joke.

  98. This is great! In Dallas we already new this. But, it is very entertaining to read all of the pissing and moaning from the also ran’s.

  99. It will be interesting to see the Patriots post-Brady and post-Belichick era. If their fans can endure decades of no playoff games, I will hand it to them. Until then, they cannot truly be judged.

I have a NY Giants fan at work that is so spoiled that he hates Eli Manning. I won’t say what team I root for but if my subpar team had a 2-time Superbowl QB like Eli Manning at Quarterback for the last 2 decades, I would be happy.

Some fans are spoiled. Some fans are diehard.

The difference is whether they continue to support their team when they suck.

  100. I believe the Chiefs have a strong fan base and God love them, Cleveland fans are faithful if nothing else. I can’t believe yins in Steeler town didn’t make the list — maybe the bandwagon is over?

  101. Largest sports fan club?
    Browns Backers World Wide…

I saw an analysis of this report.. it is based off dollars spent …. The top teams were the teams with the highest ticket prices…….

The best fans are the ones who show up every year no matter how bad the team is……

Those Cowboys and Steelers gear disappear during down years but those Browns jackets are in every mall in the country every year …

  102. I doesn’t shock me to read that a Dallas newspaper publishes a statement that the Cowboys have the best fans in the galaxy! I have to agree with other commentators who argue that teams like the Raiders and Buffalo have strong followings, as well.

I also agree that the Dolphins fan base has shrunk to “Ant-man” size. The remodeled stadium and getting to the playoffs could be a quick fix for this problem. Miami loves to chase a front runner and has lots of other alternatives for their entertainment dollar. If Philbin can go 10 & 6, earn a playoff bid and manage to keep the team out of the tabloids; then we recapture our fan base.

  103. No love for the fans of the NFL’s charter franchise?

Bears fans are so rabid and fanatical that Saturday Night Live made a series of skits about our fanaticism, which lives on in popular culture to this day!
