Goodell not aware of any Le’Veon Bell suspension appeal

AP

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made news on Tuesday when he said there was no timeline for his ruling in the appeal of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s suspension even though the appeal was heard four weeks ago and NFL rules mandate a ruling “as soon as practicable.”

Brady isn’t the only player currently suspended for the season-opening game between the Patriots and Steelers. Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount and Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell are both suspended for the game as well as a result of their arrests last preseason. Blount is suspended for just the opener for a marijuana possession charge while Bell is suspended for three games because he was charged with a DUI as well.

Bell said earlier this summer that he was appealing the league’s decision, but Goodell said Tuesday that he wasn’t aware of any appeal and that he wouldn’t have any information about it if he were because someone else is handling it.

“That appeal is not heard by me, I would have to get somebody else to get a timeline on that,” Goodell said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Bell accepted a plea deal on the charges and the league’s drug policy calls for an automatic two-game ban for DUI infractions. That wouldn’t seem to leave Bell much room for success on appeal, which should mean a fair amount of work for DeAngelo Williams in the opener.

  1. That sounds like a true leader; a man with his finger on the pulse of the organization he’s in charge of. *smdh*

    What a clown.

  2. Bell said earlier this summer that he was appealing the league’s decision, but Bell was so high that he forgot he was even suspended.

  3. “I KNOW nothing ! I SEE nothing ! I HEAR nothing !”

    – Roger Goodell aka Seargent Schultz

And the owners pay this guy how much ? He’s one of the scam artists of all time and so utterly and totally incompetent at his job its quite stunning he still has it.

“How does Goodell not know? According to the CBA Roger Goodell is the only one who can hand down suspensions to players.”

That’s true, but he isn’t involved in the appeals process.

Still, it certainly looks silly if he can’t even say “Yes, Mr. Bell has chosen to appeal his suspension.”

  5. Bell is the stupid one and Goodell is to blame? What a screwed up fan base. Does anyone know if Bell actually appealed and what would he be appealing he was already found guilty?

  6. Bells DUI came weeks before the policy of an automatic 2 game ban was set in place. Since he wasn’t suspended until after the season, the “new” policy was enforced on a charge that occurred prior to it being implemented.

Bell actually has a great chance of getting the suspension reduced. Since there was no baseline for a DUI prior to the new policy it could anything.

My guess is Troy Vincent is hearing it he drops it to 2 games.

  7. Wow.

“Goodell not aware of…” is how every Roger Goodell story should begin. Even just “Goodell NOT aware” pretty much sums up the current state of the union in regards to the NFL.

This one simple phrase could change things, folks. Think about it. The possibilities are endless, but here are just a few examples of how this simple catchphrase could be the harbinger of good things (a new commish?) to come:

“Goodell not aware of the mockery he has become since his botched suspension of Ray Rice last year. The fact that he had seen footage from inside the elevator BEFORE giving the initial two game slap-on-the-wrist suspension only adds fuel to the fire of this fiasco.”

    or
“Goodell not aware of connection between CTE and playing football.”

    or, my personal favorite,
“Goodell not aware of the location of either his elbows or his…well…you know.”

I hereby call on sports writers to begin all articles that reference the commissioner with “Goodell not aware of…”.

    Resign!

  8. He said its not his call on a Bell appeal. Why would he lie ? some posters dont have a clue, for those most of the teams support a program called football 101 to teach women the game. I bet they would let you guys in.

  9. I’m a Steeler fan and a Bell fan, but I would rather he sit out the 3 games and learn a lesson. Giving a young kid a break on this will do more harm than good. D-Lo and Harris/Dri are capable for 3 (long) weeks.

Whoa there stale cheesehead! He is appealing a punishment that was in effect at the time of the infraction…….think you can grasp that or should I slow down for you…..screwed up? Please….

  11. Now Bell is the new Brady. Great. How admirable. What’s his defense? The Ideal Gas Law forced marijuana into my lungs? HAHAHAHA. LOL.

  12. Right on time the Pride of Charm City comes to spread knowledge and wisdom to his obsession. Yawn……actually a little late for the Tebow troll. I guess he deserves a pass considering he donates his spare time to the neglected kids of the Charm….right? Lol.

  13. Even though he’s not the one who directly handles the appeals process he is the top executive of the entire league office and as such it is his job to know what his staff are working on. We got Deflategate because of this goof’s lack of awareness in his own office…allegedly.

Is he REALLY unaware of what’s going on and thus incompetent to do his job? Or does he know full well what’s going on and LIES to us on a regular basis? Either makes him unqualified to serve as commissioner of the league.

  14. The reason Bell is appealing is because he honored his plea agreement which will get the DUI expunged. I’m not saying he should get it reduced because there is no arguing he wasn’t breaking the law, but there is always a chance Goodell could reduce it for good behavior. Why not at least try?

  15. Gödel continues to show the fans of football on how he works. No coincidences in who how when and where he suspends players and then plays ignorant when put on the spot.

  16. What did he tell Sean Payton, ignorance is no excuse.

What he say about Brady there should be a decision soon. Now today there is no timetable. This guy is a compulsive liar.

If he and the NFL operate like i think they will, he will make a decision the Sunday before the Thursday night opener. Just like Harold Henderson, aka Roger Goodell, ruled on Aug. 28th on Josh Gordons suspension. Therefore this clown guarantees Brady misses a game, not giving Brady enough time to get an injunction.

What exactly is Goodell so busy with? Vacations?

  17. Let me explain something that you wanna-be lawyers/Steelers haters don’t understand:

Le’Veon Bell did not plead guilty to the DUI charges; he entered into a pretrial intervention program (in Pennsylvania, it’s called Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition – ARD). His license is suspended and he’s on a term of probation, but his charges will be dismissed if he successfully complies with the terms of ARD.

Let me repeat that for you all: Le’Veon Bell has not been convicted of a crime. Le’Veon Bell did not plead guilty. Exactly like the Ray Rice case.

    Got that?

  18. Hey TheDPR, Goodell has his finger someplace. Maybe this will be heard next summer after he makes a decision about soft balls. Both players will be playing on Sept 10th. Can rush these things and when Brady goes to court, things really will back up.

  19. “Lots of drivel from trolls” vs “20% increase in profits”…and the winner is…

  20. Add Bell to the list of criminals who refuse to own up to their crimes and then get special treatment because they got caught in Steeler country. Steelers must teach their players to commit all their crimes where the Steelers are the home team or else take some crooked Pa. cops with you to Georgia. LOL.

Being a “Baltimore” fan (troll) you should not even mention crime. Any form of the word whether direct or indirect i.e. looting, domestic beatings, rioting, G.M’s & owners supporting beaters of said beatings. Things of that nature. Who does say “LOL” anymore?
