Judge orders NFL, NFLPA settlement talks on Adrian Peterson matter

Running back Adrian Peterson has been reinstated and is back in his old spot in the Vikings’ starting lineup, but the courtroom fight over his suspension hasn’t gone away.

The NFLPA filed a contempt motion against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in May because they allege that the league did not comply with Judge David Doty’s February ruling that the league’s November suspension of Peterson should be reconsidered by an arbitrator. The NFL filed an appeal of Doty’s ruling, but did not seek a stay that would have kept the suspension in place pending appeal.

A hearing on the matter is scheduled for August 13 unless the two sides can settle their differences before that point. U.S. Magistrate Judge Janie Mayeron ordered Monday that the two sides must meet “in person or telephonically” before July 30 to discuss a settlement of the issues surrounding the Peterson case. If they can’t reach a settlement before August 6, Mayeron scheduled a conference that will take place just before the contempt hearing.

“All participants should plan on spending the entire day and evening, if necessary, at this settlement conference,” Mayeron wrote, via 1500ESPN.com.

August 13 is also the last day of Vikings training camp, which means there’s a chance they’ll be working on preparing for the 2015 season while attorneys are continuing the fight over things from the 2014 season.

  1. Adriann Peterson is done.
The best RB in the league plays in Kansas City. Home of the Chiefs. The next Super Bowl champion.
Jamaal Charles will go into the HOF as the best ever

  2. It won’t take the courts to prove that he’ll lead my Vikings to a 4-12 record this year!! Cellar – here we come!

  3. Vikings working hard on the upcoming season while my pack is skipping practice to go bowling! I think it’s time to sell my stock.

  4. He didn’t smoke dope dummy. He never failed a drug test. He was just being a smart ass when they asked him if he’d smoked any weed, which is why his response was “a little bit”

    Troll on.

I don’t think you will find many buyers for your worthless paper. The general public is much smarter than Pack fans to pay hundreds of dollars for meaningless paper “stock”.

Well, then again, maybe the Patriots fans who still believe their team never cheated may buy them,,,,they are pretty stupid.

This could be the dumbest excuse I’ve ever read. He was just being a smart ass? Really? He didn’t take a drug test the day they asked him if he smoked weed. And you have no idea about whether he has failed or passed any drug test. That stuff is confidential.

  7. I’m trying to figure out what legal issues remain to settle other than dismissing the NFL’s appeal. Theoretically, all his suspension pay has been or will be restored — and no way will the appeal succeed. I suppose he can seek recovery of legal fees and maybe lost endorsement revenue, but the causal connection between the suspension and lost endorsement revenue will be hard to prove (when compared to his admitted criminal act). There just doesn’t seem like there’s much of anything to settle.

  8. f he failed he would have went directly to jail dude!! So yes, we would have known if he failed or passed. Come on…pay attention troll

No. That’s not how it works. It’s still at the judge’s discretion. And it’s likely he also tested positive as well. But criminals like Peterson get 2nd chances from judges all the time.

“During this process, the defendant admitted to Justin Whitehead, an employee of Davis Investigations, which conducts urinalysis testing for this Court; that he smoked a little weed. In light of this statement, and the fact that it was made during the urinalysis testing process, and the term “weed” is a common slang term for marijuana, the State argues that the defendant has smoked marijuana while on bond for the current offense.”

  9. pack fans getting nervous…. AP running angry … Teddy developing a learning… defense better than yours last year and only getting better… we had a B+ draft grade on the conservative side and they had a C if you are being nice… anyways… troll away… maybe one of you could dust off a trophy while we are at it…. how many Championships do you have again in Green Bay? What did that do for you LAST SEASON. That’s what it feels like to lose an NFC title game. Remember the sting you lippy turds.

Why would anyone get nervous about Peterson? The Vikings have only 2 wins against the Packers since he was drafted. And nobody is nervous about a middle of the road at best QB.

    Teddy Bridgewater
    2014 GP: 13 TD’s Pass: 14 INT: 12 TD Rush: 1 Playoff wins: 0
    Tim Tebow
    2011 GP: 14 TD’s Pass: 12 INT: 6 TD Rush: 6 Playoff Wins: 1

13 and counting. The only thing a Vikings fan can dust off is the empty trophy shelf. For some reason you act like 2010 was decades ago. When the Packers added yet 1 more championship than the Vikings have while they were sitting at home out of the playoffs as usual.
