Justin Hunter’s alleged victim suffered “serious” injuries

AP

It’s quickly looking like receiver Justin Hunter won’t be playing football in the near future.

According to Terry McCormick of 247Sports.com, the person allegedly assaulted by Hunter on July 3 in Virginia Beach suffered “serious, but not life-threatning injuries.”

That’s the description provided to McCormick by officer James Cason of the Virginia Beach Police Department regarding the “brawl” that happened inside the Sandbar Raw Bar.

The injured person came forward after the incident and pressed charges. Cason said Hunter “became a suspect during the investigation.” It’s possible that police have seen surveillance video showing Hunter doing whatever he did to be accused of stabbing, cutting, and wounding the alleged victim.

Hunter will be arraigned on Tuesday, and it’s likely a matter of time before the NFL places him on paid leave until the criminal case is resolved. The real question is whether the Titans will sever ties with Hunter before that happens.

  1. This is one way to put the Titans in the news, their rookie hasn’t signed and nobody else (including their fans) can name 5 other people on the team.

    Says the 49er fan, wow.

  3. “Says the 49er fan, wow.”

Yeah he ignores all the 9ers that have been arrested the last few years too.

49ers, they have it better than no one.

  4. I’m sure the victim will be headed quickly with a large settlement check. Amazing how 6 figures can help save a life

  5. Delanie Walker, Zach Mettenberger, Justin Hunter, Kendall Wright, Marcus Mariota. It’s really not that hard to name 5 players on any team, as long as you’re a real football fan.

  6. That was pretty evident from the lack of bond posted.

Anyone have a count of how many players were arrested this off-season?

  7. 2 game suspension per Goodell

Then, once the backlash hits, he’ll give $5 million to Ted Wells to fabricate some “-gate” to divert attention from his ineptitude

When are the owners going to figure out that a 2 year old could have increased revenues more than Goodell during this period of time?

  8. Been going to Virginia Beach my entire life, and have experienced the night life the past 3 or 4 years. Never heard of this bar before, and not in a particularly great location.

  9. I would like to know what set him off into this rage. Must have been something pretty intense. Not that it makes it right. It’s that pesky thing called “the other side of the story”.

  10. All Hunter has to do is send his victim to Europe on a nice vacation around trial time with plenty of spending money to get charges dropped. Then appeal the suspension to get it reduced. Then sue to possibly remove it altogether. Then pick up where you left off. Easy peazy. I’m sure Greg Hardy has some excellent travel packages he could recommend.

  11. Something tells me that when you’re given one final chance that you’re not supposed to stab anyone. Wait til you have a breakout year, sign a new contract AND THEN STAB SOMEONE!

  12. “Anyone have a count of how many players were arrested this off-season?”

Yes, PFT keeps track of it in the Police Blotter section.

We’re going to put you on “paid leave” for possibly stabbing and assaulting someone. That’s why the NFL is becoming a joke

That’s why unions are a joke and need to be eradicated from society.

    You may delete this now.

  14. Maybe the police have all the corroborating evidence they need of Hunter’s guilt, in which case he deserves whatever he gets from the courts and the NFL/Titans (suspension or even getting released outright).

But I’m always a little wary of odd timing, when a victim comes forward “after the incident” to press charges. Did they report this serious assault almost immediately but it took the police 2+ weeks to identify the right suspect and get a warrant, or did the police not even know there was an alleged victim until a couple of days ago?

Would like to hear the whole story on this one, at least.

—————————————————————-I’m not a Titans fan, but let’s see how many names I can come up with without cheating:
Bishop Sankey, Zach Mettenberger, Kendall Wright, Delanie Walker, Michael Griffin, Andy Levitre, Derrick Morgan, Brian Orakpo, Zach Brown, Wesley Woodyard

  16. As a Titans fan and someone who lives in the Tidewater area I just want to say “Welcome home Justin, I understand your going to be around longer than planned.”

  17. Bottom line: if there is good Video, you are done. No Video, a few games suspended. No Video and you write a large Check to instigating victim, he will be at Training Camp.

  18. I dunno the exact middle name of the Victim of this incident, but if you search on the virginia court sites he seems to have a nice little rap sheet and loves to drive without a license (4X.)
