NFLPA announces that Tom Brady guy is moving a lot of merchandise

AP

This is a story that has nothing to do with #DeflateGate. Sort of.

The NFLPA announced today that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady led all players in products sold this spring, the first time he’s ever been atop their merchandise rankings.

The list is based on total sales of all officially licensed merchandise from March 1 through May 31. Perhaps not coincidentally, that covers the time when Brady was being investigated and suspended for his role in what the league found “more probable than not” tampering with footballs in the AFC Championship Game.

While the players union didn’t mention that in its release, they also had to be laughing at the coincidence, considering their preparations to fight any potential punishment in court if Brady’s appeal is unsuccessful.

Brady was third on last year’s year-end list, but saw a sudden surge in popularity at a time when commissioner Roger Goodell was summoning a report and declaring Brady guilty of something.

While Goodell already knew Brady was popular, you know the union doesn’t mind reminding him of just how popular the player he’s considering shelving for a quarter of the season actually is.

  1. Walt Anderson best recollection as to what gauge he used was discounted in the Wells report because the science would find no fault.

However Walt Anderson’s recollection of the all 48 balls measured where remembered without the need to document on paper and taken as fact.

  2. I’m just glad I passed on that Revis jersey!

Come on, Roger, stop being a coward and settle the mess you allowed your underlings to create.

    Come on, Roger.

  3. And those #s probably don’t include all the #NoBrady#No Banner tees (of which I’m a proud owner). How many pro-Goodell tee-shirts were sold?

I grew up a Giants fan; cheered when the Giants & Eli beat the Patriots with those nailbiting finishes. Before then, relished Simms’ wins vs Denver & Bills with Parcells and Belichik as defensive coordinator.

But I am now 150% a Brady/Pats fan — because of his play and because of the witch hunt.

  4. Lots of people are supporting Brady and buying his merchandise because they know he’s innocent.Being the GOAT doesn’t hurt either.

  5. Classic.

We’re talking about a QB that has been to 9 AFC Championship games in the 13 seasons he was the starter for the majority of the season (that’s 69%), and been to 6 Super Bowls in those seasons (that’s 46%), winning 4 of them. That equates to winning 31% of the Super Bowls for seasons he was the primary QB.

    Brady IS the GOAT

  6. Patriots nation showing love and support as any fan base would if their legendary QB had been set up and wrongly suspended and reputation ruined beyond repair.

  7. Wells Report direct quote:
“We credit Anderson’s recollection of the pre-game measurements taken on the day of the AFC Championship Game”

So the Wells team says thanks for remembering all 24 pregame measurements even though you didn’t write them down.

    Seems like a nice compliment

Then they totally disregard his recollection of using the Logo gauge in measuring all the pregame ball measurments.

Seems like they’re saying thanks for your help we’ll take it from here.

Top 5 Qbs in Professional Football : Griffin III, Rodgers, Dalton, Stafford and Cutler. In that order.

    ———

Imagine what would have happened if Brady was on Chicago or Detroit last year. They would have dominated.

  9. Too bad he’s a cheater anyway!!! But idiot Goodell will dismiss the suspension to stay in good with the by GOD patsies the darlings of the NFL for you patsie fans!!! Go ahead & retire with Gisele so the by GOD patsies will uck again like the 70’s, 80’s & early 90’s!!!

  10. Classy fan base there… buying jerseys to proudly display your support for a blatant cheater. Interesting that Brady was never been No. 1 before he was caught. I guess you admire him more now that you know he’s dirty.

  11. The attempt at a “settlement” is an effort to posture for the judge to show the NFLPA was willing to compromise

Seeing as the best Goodell can claim is, once he rejects the “best recollection” of his veteran officials, rejects the laws of physics to explain the deflation of the Patriots footballs – and accepts it to rationalize the deflation of the Colts footballs – is the following

A belief (no proof) that Brady was “generally aware” of something that might or might not have happened but that Wells believes “is more likely than not to have happened” (but only if you reject physics, the best recollection of the officials etc.)

Goodell is doubling down on “stupid” if he rejects this way out to have Brady accept a fine for not “fully cooperating” in an investigation into deflated footballs that weren’t deflated (though most hater fans still cite the NFL’s lies of “11 of 12 balls deflated)

Pats fans still supporting this cheater unreal

    —–

Poor deluded fools reading TMZSPN still believe he cheated?

    Unreal.

Maybe if watch long enough, Brunell will cry some more when Brady is fully exonerated.

  13. P.T. Barnum was right when he said there is a sucker born every minute.

What he couldn’t have known however is that they all moved to New England.

    Stop drinking the Kool-Aid !!!!!!!

Brady and the Patri*ts are GUILTY !!!!!!!

  14. Are all sales of #12 New England jersey with “Cheater” or “Deflator” etc. on the nameplate counted in those merchandising $$$ figures?

  15. Yeah, I’m sure the uptick in his shirt sales had nothing to do with him being the QB for the superbowl winners, and named the SB MVP.

How did the winning QBs and MVPs shirts do in prior years?

  16. Just wait…he’ll have 4 weeks to sell stuff out of the back of a van at the stadium on gameday. 🙂

  17. Let Tom Brady off the hook for his actions. Who cares that he might have cheated. It doesn’t matter that he refuses to help understand what actually happened during Deflategate. Some of us just didn’t realize how amazing this man is so lets give him a pass. Tom Brady is being punished for refusing to help the investigation.

  18. Goodell is banking on the fact that most NFL fans are jealous enough of Brady and gullible enough to ignore the following

1.) That the NFL openly lied to the Patriots, Brady, ESPN and all football fans that 11 of 12 footballs were deflated, including some down to 10psi (even the Wells Report admits this was FALSE)

    2. That the “best recollection” of the official is that he used the gague that showed no unexpected deflation occurred (They accept his “best recollection” everywhere BUT here)

    3. That the Laws of Physics don’t apply to the Patriots footballs – but they DO apply to the Colts footballs which were also below 12.5 PSI

    4. That the NFL assumes the lower gague was used for the Patriots footballs and the higher gauge was used for the Colts – presuming the worst for the Patriots and best for the Colts

    5. That most NFL fans are unaware that all teams employ “Deflators” to inflate and deflate new footballs as part of an extensive perparation process (as documented by the NY Times on 11/23/13 regarding Eli Manning’s “Deflators” who won’t leave game balls unattended on game day (presumably taking them to the rest room as well)

    6. That the NFL asserts that a guy can perfectly deflate 12 footballs in a men’s room stall in 90 seconds – but the NFL officials don’t even have time to simply TEST all the Colts footballs during all of halftime

There’s more – but this is how gullible Goodell believes most NFL fans are – as you have to believe ALL the above to actually believe Brady “was generally aware” of something that “is more likely than not” to have happened

    … and apparently he’s right

Thankfully Mike Florio, Sally Jenkins, Peter King and a growing list of NFL Reporters are not quite that gullible – even if most fans are

  19. Just wait…he’ll have 4 weeks to sell stuff out of the back of a van at the stadium on gameday.

I think you’re probably wrong about that.

    But it was still funny.

  20. More probable than not that everyone wants a piece of the greatest pro QB to ever play the game — highest winning percentage, most postseason wins, biggest 2nd half SB comeback in history, you name it. I will tell my grandkids about watching him in person. In case I don’t live that long, I wrote much of it down already. It’s fun to read, like the time I saw Belichick and Kraft talking on the sideline until Brady started warming up. Then they just stood there and silently watched him toss downfield. Greatness.

  21. Maybe the best part of the whiney “Brady cheated!” comments is that the grammar police could meet all their quotas in one thread. Not too many bright bulbs commenting against the Pats. Love it. The jealousy continues to rise and boil. The only astericks are applied by the envious. Go Pats!

  22. I think you’re probably wrong about that.

    But it was still funny.

Actually, I think the CostCo one was better.

  23. ***Walt Anderson best recollection as to what gauge he used was discounted in the Wells report because the science would find no fault.

However Walt Anderson’s recollection of the all 48 balls measured where remembered without the need to document on paper and taken as fact.***

and the nfl did this because they know the general intelligence of the fan base.

  24. This probably does not even include all of the Free Brady shirts being sold and you see those all over New England. More probable than not Kessler kicks Goodell’s behind in court. I actually believe that the NFL didn’t even follow policy and Goodell let Troy Vincent dole out the punishment. When they realized that was against policy, Goodell said that Vincent only “announced it” and that it was his penalty. These idiots can’t even get out of their own way. Lucky for them that they have the tv networks in their back pockets.

    Free Brady!!!

  25. Brady’s jersey sales may be up but they don’t compare to all the autographed air pumps Jastremski & McNally have been selling out of the back of their van in the Foxboro parking lot.

  26. Maybe the best part of the whiney “Brady cheated!” comments is that the grammar police could meet all their quotas in one thread. Not too many bright bulbs commenting against the Pats. Love it. The jealousy continues to rise and boil. The only astericks are applied by the envious. Go Pats!

    LOL! You’re totally right!

You also totally misspelled the word ‘asterisk.’

  27. He paid off the Deflator with his “merchandise”. In case Pats fans forgot.

  28. Maybe it was from the allowing to use any lettering on the back promotion.

The Brady jock strap carrying chowda headed tin foil hatters club prevails.

Posting whining rambling analysis that has absolutely nothing to do with the article at hand.

  29. It is still funny how the Brady haters keep talking about how not turning over his phone is proof of guilt.
Why would he turn over his personal phone to a group that leaks everything that makes them look better and tries to hides everything that makes them look bad?You guys keep acting like when this goes to court he`ll have to turn it over then and that`s not true either. The NFL has no legal right to it and this is not a criminal investigation so the courts are going to be looking at the NFL`s handling and precedents when deciding the case they are not going to ask for the phone to further investigate whether it happened or not. That part is done.Anyone who says they know Brady is guilty is just being a hypocrite because if it happened to their favorite player with all the holes of this case they would be doing a complete 180.

  31. guachosporlife says: He paid off the Deflator with his “merchandise”. In case Pats fans forgot.
    ==================================

Actually the Deflator is a paid employee, and as the Patriots noted, his job is to deflate and re-inflate the footballs, along with numerous other activities to break them in.

This “scandal” has more to do with the ignorance of the common fan and Goodell’s hope that you’re gullible enough to divert your attention from the awful job he’s doing.

Remember Spygate when most fans were SHOCKED that signal filming occurs? Signal filming of course was and remains legal – Spygate was about the location of cameras when the rule was changed in 2006 and enforced in 2007 – really no big deal unless fans are ignorant as to why Coordinators still cover their mouths today

Most fans would be just as SHOCKED to learn that their chosen team also employs Deflators.

Read the NY Times 11/23/13 story about Eli Manning’s “Deflators” and their extensive football preparation – and how they keep game balls with them at all times on GameDay – presumably including when they have to take a leak

So saying “they hired a Deflator” isn’t the smoking gun you think it is, unless you’re asserting that ALL teams are guilty and should have their QBs suspended for 1/4th a season

Try to at least know a little something about the sport you follow please – and don’t be as gullible as Roger Goodell HOPES you are

You’re being used and manipulated so Roger can continue to collect his $44 million a year.

  32. ESPN reporting that the “settlement” offer from the NFL PA was that Brady would accept suspension for “not cooperating” in order to keep “cheating” off the record.

  33. Yeah, so Brady’s Agent & Kraft PR team have coordinated efforts to:

    1) Buy positive propaganda media attention
    2) Use Kraft financially dependent organization’s to provide biased opinions supporting Brady
    3) Purchase Brady paraphernalia to create a positive “spin” on the Brady story prior to Suspension decision

PR Media Propaganda campaign results by the Kraft Foundation. Outside of NFL financially dependent media sources, I never see or hear anyone saying they believe Brady. EVERYONE not tied to NFL money or a diehard Pats fan knows he is a liar & cheat. What’s interesting is that even the “” (quote-unquote) Patriot fans who claim innocence don’t want Brady to release his phone or let JJ & JM testify. Why? Because they don’t REALLY believe he’s innocent, they just don’t care that he’s guilty.

Tom Brady is being punished for refusing to help the investigation.’
Let me explain it one more time, I tried writing it with crayons because I figure it would draw your attention more, but PFT doesn’t have that app. Three (3) guys are, according to the NFL, trading texts messages and phone calls. They have TWO (2) of those phones. So why do they need the THIRD (3rd) phone if the messages were exchanged between ONLY BETWEEN THE THREE PHONES? The only reason they would need the THIRD (3rd) phone is to snoop and maybe, accidentally of course, to release private texts or photos to the highest bidder. Read it slowly (or have someone read it slowly to you) several times. No one will care if your lips move while you do this.

  35. Whew! Finally some goods news for TBrady.
And when they start selling Brady jerseys with # 10.5 on them the sales will quintuple.

There are so many carrying Brady’s jockstrap that work here there would have been multiple stories stating so by now. Yet none… A Google search on this topic also turns up nothing.

  38. I`m not a Pats fan or a Pats hater.I don`t know if he`s guilty or not and that is the point.
They didn`t even prove a crime was committed so how did they prove guilt?I hate the Steelers but i would be defending Big Ben just the same.
The legal system is setup with a burden of proof for a reason. It is always better to let a guilty person go than to convict an innocent person.I don`t know if Brady did it but i do know that the NFL didn`t prove he did.Who you like or don`t like shouldn`t have anything to do with it.I am a fan of the NFL and they did far more to damage “the shield” than a pound less of air in a football did.I care if he`s guilty i just don`t care if you and Ted Wells think he`s guilty.

That is true. But it is not enforced because most of them are donated to charities. It still happens all the time.
It clearly states that game balls are always supposed to be at a certain PSI AT ALL TIMES but every game played in high or low temperatures in the history of the game has had different PSI in the 2nd half because it wasn`t enforced. You can`t selectively punish one time out of hundreds.

  40. The only thing weaker than crying about air pressure in footballs and losing 45 to whatever is to choke away the NFC title game after the league fixed not one but TWO games to get you in the contest. Packers lol

I`m not sure what your putting into your search engine but as soon as that came out they were asking every former QB on TV about it and they all admitted it happens all the time.
I don`t know the rules in MLB but i know it happens there for sure.

  42. If this were a court case then little tommy would be sitting in jail for contempt for not co-operating with the judge’s orders to surrender evidence….If He’s innocent then why not produce the evidence to prove it ?? Oh yes, and why did the 2 equipment guys get fired and muzzled…
You Pats fans are delusional about your “Living God”.. I truly respect the few honest fans that have changed their loyalty to some other team because they have the honesty to say that they are tired of trying to defend their coach and team for repeated cheating and bending rules..My hat is off to these honest fans, and the truth is, there is no way to dodge this issue or bury it…The Patsies will be considered cheats now and forever, and it brings all their wins under a black cloud that will never be lifted and deluded Pats fans can’t change that no matter how much they whine

  43. The tombradon12000.v1.0 has embedded security protocols / sandboxing that will allow for continued running of core processes.

Meanwhile the Pats will field test their new Roboppolo 10hundred model (based on the Romobot architechture interestingly).

Depending on its performance we will be able to evaluate the true affects that lost draft picks will have on the Pats organization.
