Patriots sign Tarell Brown

The Patriots have added another cornerback to the mix just ahead of the start of training camp.

ESPN reports that the Patriots have signed veteran Tarell Brown. Brown visited with the Patriots earlier this offseason and also drew some interest from the Ravens while trying to find a job for the 2015 season.

Brown ended last season on injured reserve after breaking a bone in his foot while playing for the Raiders last season. Brown started 14 games for Oakland before the injury, recording 55 tackles, and was a starter for the 49ers for the three previous seasons.

Brown’s addition continues the renovation of the Patriots’ cornerback group. Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner, Kyle Arrington and Alfonzo Dennard are all gone from last year’s group, which leaves Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler to compete with newcomers Bradley Fletcher, Robert McClain and Brown for playing time in the secondary this season.

  1. YO,,YO YO BILL,,,WHO IN THE HELL IS GOING TO PLAY CB???? REALLY you cut the best 4 you had…leaving you with the “BENCH”? Do you have a plan?

  2. You tried that with WR’s a few years back RECHE CALDWELL!!!!! (now in jail),,and it cost you a Superbowl…

This is the best Bill can put on the field? Landry, Stills, Jennings and Parker just did a group chest bump on South Beach.

    Who?????? Tom Landry?

  5. THIS IS IT!!!!! OUR YEAR!!!!!!!! OUR YEAR TO BEAT THE PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. with the niners reeking of a horrible backfield you would think they might have gone after him to play in a familiar setting

  7. As a Niners fan, I can say Brown was the best CB on the team when he was with us. We only let him go because the Raiders overpaid him like they overpay everybody else. He’ll be starting in New England if he’s healthy.

Landry – good rookie season, but he’s a slot WR
Stills – overrated, 1 trick pony
Jennings – great signing for the Phins…if it was 2009
    Parker – currently injured

  9. Landry, Stills, Jennings and Parker…they had some good albums back in the 60s & 70s.

Base salary as a Raider was $1.4M. That’s overpaying for a starting CB?
Oh yea, how’d that game against the Raiders last year taste?

  11. Fellow Patriots fans are fooling themselves if they think Brady’s potential suspension is the biggest on the field issue facing the team this year. The secondary is a mess. It probably won’t effect them in the regular season, Bill has proven time and time again that he can win 12 games with talent deficiencies at multiple positions, but come the playoffs this current secondary will be exposed.

Not signing Revis and letting Browner go is the biggest story of the Patriots offseason.

  12. No Revis or Browner this year. Pats going to take a step back on Defense. And to the 9er fan saying this guy is the best, watch more than the 9er game. Brown sucks!

  13. Bill Belichick just got his 4th ring, he isn’t worried about going all in for another one any time soon. He’s focused on the future and nothing more.

At the time, the Niners reportedly offered Brown a 3 year, 10M deal. Oakland signed him to a one year, 3.5M deal. He took the Oakland offer hoping to have a strong season and landing one more fat contract.

  15. This is scary. We’ve never won a SB without an all pro cb, not even sure we have a quality starter in this bunch. Plus, no Wilfork, Vereen…..gonna need to score ALLOT this year, Tommy.

  16. Remember when Revis and Browner were going to take huge pay cuts to stay with the Pats?

And remember when you were going to raise $1M to pay the fine?

And remember when you thought your ten man march would actually draw people?

    You guys are funny.

  17. While I think New England has bad corners, people seem to think he will play the same scheme as last year and thats not correct. Bill usually adjusts the schemes to the PLAYERS. So he will likely use alot more zone this year, than man coverage. I don’t know how that will work, but I am going to go ahead and say he knows more about football than I do.

  18. What does this have to do with Mike Tomlin being the most overpaid, overrated coach in the NFL?

  19. No, IQ, I don’t remember any of that. Do you remember this? Your Super Bowl XLIX Champions, The New England Patriots.

Check your stats head to head the Dolphins have more wins over the Pats. The Dolphins will increase the lead by two games this year.

  21. The only reason the Dolphins even get victories over the Pats is because they play them at the end of the year when about two dozen starters are sitting.

  22. Remember when the Patriots made the Super Bowl with Ellis Hobbs as their #1 corner? I’m pretty sure the rest of the AFC remembers that because the Patriots steamrolled the conference that season. Yet Jets had “the best defensive backfield” for two or three years and never got there. Funny how an all-time great coach and QB can overcome these “problems”
