Vikings sign cornerback Josh Thomas to add some depth

AP

Between the two-game suspension of Jabari Price and the offseason injury to Josh Robinson, the Vikings were running thin at cornerback heading into camp.

They addressed that Friday afternoon, signing former Panthers cornerback Josh Thomas.

Thomas was originally a fifth-round pick of the Cowboys, but landed in Carolina in 2011 and stayed three years, starting and playing acceptably well at times.

When he was cut last year, he bounced from the Seahawks, to the Jets and Lions.

  1. Rhodes Closed is elite.
Waynes World is a first-round rookie.
Hello Newman has veteran savvy and guile.
Oh Captain My Captain is looking to bounce back from a bad season by actually doing what Zimmer asks him to do.
Shaun Prater doesn’t have a cool nickname but he does have position flexibility and can play corner or safety.

The Vikings will be just fine.

More depth to an already top 5 Secondary?

Not to mention the best young quarterback and coach in the league?

We’re setting ourselves up for a decade of dominance.

Let the purple and gold confetti fall.

  3. As a Panthers fan, let me tell you something… This dude sucks. If he ever has to play CB on the field (as opposed to Madden or in practice), he will give up a TD in the 4th quarter to give the game away.

  4. Quick poll:

How many touchdowns will Josh Thomas give up to Aaron Rodgers in 2015?

Thumb up – 4 or more
Thumb down – less than 4

To be honest, I almost voted thumbs down because I don’t really need to pick on one guy, when it comes to the Vikings horrid secondary, I am equal opportunity.

But then I realized that I’ll probably throw 4 TDs against ALL Viking cornerbacks this year, so I voted thumbs up.

  6. the 7th ranked defensive secondary will be just fine without Robinson, 2 games without a guy who didn’t play and the addition of newman and waynes.

    —————————-

Top 5, 7th? Yeah, they were seventh in passing yards per game.

They also gave up the 6th highest completion percentage to opposing QBs. Over 66% of the throws attempted against the Vikings were completed. (For comparison’s sake, the Packers defense allowed 59.0% completion, good for the 7th best in the league.)

When you’re playing against the Vikings, you’re usually in the lead from early on in the game. Which leads to fewer pass attempts (Vikings faced the 5th fewest pass attempts in the league), which leads to fewer passing yards.

And you guys are taking that to mean the Vikings’ swiss-cheese secondary was awesome last year? SkLOL.

So. Let guess. You’re a glass half full kind of guy?

  9. Camp fodder or emergency depth. Nothing to see here move along, move along.

  10. Rhodes, Waynes, Captain, Newman, Robinson, Sherels, Prater, then MAYBE Josh Thomas.

It’s gonna be less than 4. He won’t be on the field enough to give up 4 or more.

You clearly don’t flim flam with the Zim Zam.

  12. thanks for all the information badger, i never knew how little packer fans have going on in their lives. i suppose though when 67,000 show up to praise a guy they never said they’d like again it just goes to show the pitiful boring life of a packer fan.

i know how they have an alleged 13 championships, but at some point don’t you get bored with it? i mean, wow, if you win the super bowl again and you’ll add 14 to go with your 9 other fake other championships. doesn’t that kinda take the fun out of it? what’s the difference between 10, 11 or 14 or 15??

it’s like football is the most important thing ever to packer fans. they take it like its religion. its as if its the most important thing in their lives, so in an essence they put football first in place of god, which is a sin. so, when you think about it: all packer fans are going to hell. haha! skol.

  13. I think the Packer fans should worry about their own team this year!
Remember how highly rater the 49ers were the next year after the Ravins Superbowl?
They crashed and burned the next year. and they MADE it to the Superbowl.
