Bridgewater expected to start tonight after dealing with family issue

Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was away from the team for the last 48 hours while attending to a family issue, but he’s now in Canton and ready for the Hall of Fame Game.

Sal Paolantonio of ESPN reports that Bridgewater returned to the team this morning and is expected to start tonight against the Steelers.

The Vikings announced on Friday that Bridgewater was away from the team because of a family matter. He was in Florida, but the reasons have not been reported.

Bridgewater will likely play sparingly, as starting quarterbacks almost always do in the preseason opener, but when he does play it will be significant as his first game action with new receiver Mike Wallace.

  1. Hopefully everything is ok with is family. It’s sad to see all of these unreal expectations put on him by fans who so desperately want him to be better than he is.

He’ll be carrying a clipboard in 3 years.

  2. It’s been reported to be a death in the family. No other details. If that’s accurate, thoughts go out to Bridgewater and his family. It’s also been reported the second team would be playing, not the first team. Maybe they had expected Teddy to not be there though, so who knows.

  3. A Bridgewater td bomb to Wallace vs the Steelers tonight . I’m calling it…

  4. Future hall of fame? Super bowl champion?
Try winning the division first son

  5. Most teams never play their starting qb in the preseason opener. Looks like Vikes still have the training wheels on BridgeUnderwater.

  6. The dynasty starts……
The best team in pro sports….
Years of titles and SB championships…..
Other teams’ fans are so jealous
To add to the 13 we already own……
Super Bowl XL Champions – your Green Bay Packers!!
Oh wait, this is a Vikings articel… oh well….

  7. Not sure how the Lions can be the doormat of the division over the Vikings considering they’ve been in the playoffs more in the last 4 years and have had a better record overall.

Seems like it will be the Bears and Vikings battling it out for 3rd place.

  8. Also, if you’re claiming a championship before the Super Bowl era the Vikings can claim that too. How many Super Bowls have the lions been in? The Vikings may lose the big game every time they get there but at least they’ve gotten there.

  9. Wake me up when the Vikings win a Super Bowl. Even Rip Van Winkle didn’t sleep this long.

  10. I really think it’s cute the way Vikings fans talk about teddy Bridgewater.

It reminds me of the kid who comes in fifth in a 5 man race and his parents tell him he is so great he will win it for sure next time.

Someone needs to get a hold of the parents of these Vikings fans and ask them if the also still have them believing in Santa Claus

  11. You chose the word “championship”when comparing the det. vs mn, it’s true MN is 0 for 4 in the nfl championship game titled the Superbowl to recognize the two league s consolidating way back when…but before that it as just the nfl(nfc) championship purple actually won 1 of those. anyway heres to the start of one more season.

  12. It’s hilarious to see Vikings fans yap about Wallace being a some sort of stud WR. Greg Jennings at his age is still a better WR than Wallace will every be. Wallace is a FA bust of Bernard Berrian proportions.

Actually, most teams play their starting QB one series, whether that lasts 3 plays or more. And, Teddy was 6-6 last year and is firmly entrenched as this teams QB. So, your entire post is basically wrong.

  14. The Lions are very overrated and very pathetic. o-16 is a one of, if not the most embarrassing feats in the history of the NFL.

The Vikings are way more annoying due to their ridiculous fan base the spits delusional vomit all over pft. The Packers own you and you all know it. Bridgewater is a bust, Peterson is a child abuser, your team is the definition of pathetic.

  15. I thought this was preseason. Perhaps you guys are expecting something other than the coaches looking at what players they are keeping and which they are cutting.

  16. Must be a Lions fan moderating this forum.. can’t even respond to calvinthegreat’s vitriol in a very polite way without getting comments removed. Don’t worry guy, the Lions will be relevant some day.

    Firmly entrenched. LOL

Teddy Bridgewater’s passer rating last year was the same as Austin Davis of the Rams. Surprisingly, Davis is not “firmly entrenched” as the starter.

  18. Even as a Vikings fan I can admit that Bridgewater has a long way to go to prove he’s anything more than a T-Jack or Ponder. At this point he’s not even good enough to lick the bottom of Aaron Rodgers cleats let alone be mention as a Pro Bowl QB.

  19. Hoping Bridgewater’s family issues are not too serious or pressing. Thoughts to you and yours.

But it doesn’t change the fact that Bridgewater is the worst QB in the NFC North, and it isn’t even close.

The Bridgewater/Zimmer combo is 0-7 against teams with a .500 record or better.
And they’re 1-5 against the rest of the NFC North.
They are going to have to step it up, Canton wont hold the door open for them forever.

  20. Bridgewater might be the worst QB in the division right now….but he has the best WR core in the NFCN to work with and that will only make him better.

Settle down Chachi, that duo has been in town for only 12 months. So far they are exactly 1 Superbowl behind McCarthy/Rodgers.

  22. we’ve been choking for 50+ years. Only 1 team wins the SB every year. I just wish it was us for a change. We’ve choked in so many SB’s, NFCCG’s and playoff games that it isn’t even funny anymore.

  23. Even as a Vikings fan I can admit that Bridgewater has a long way to go to prove he’s anything more than a T-Jack or Ponder.

I would absolutely disagree with that. Besides the fact that TB has already proven to be better than those two, the goal and bar is set much higher.

No idea what your point is. TB is the Vikings starting QB, and that is indisputable.

  25. I thought this was preseason. Perhaps you guys are expecting something other than the coaches looking at what players they are keeping and which they are cutting.

I’m expecting most starters to play one series. The main goal tonight is no major injuries. That’s it.

  26. I would absolutely disagree with that. Besides the fact that TB has already proven to be better than those two, the goal and bar is set much higher.

His passer rating is barely higher than both of those players. Barely. We are talking him up so much not because he’s shown to be great, but because he’s slightly better than the trash we had before by comparison.

  27. What the heck is a championship? What are you guys talking about? Something back in the 30s? Seriously stop living in the past, loser live in the past.

  28. Y’all are some rubes..the vikings won the NFL championship in 1969 teddy b threw 11 TDs in the last 3 games..he improved every game and now with a healthy Rudolph n all day..seriously the pack should watch out
