Tebow lands at No. 4 on four-man QB depth chart in Philly

AP

Four years ago, quarterback Tim Tebow was regarded by some Broncos as the fourth best quarterback in training camp, even though he was listed as No. 3 on the depth chart. In 2015, Tebow officially has landed at the bottom of a four-man quarterback depth chart.

The Eagles have released their initial depth chart of the year, and the quarterback position goes like this: (1) Sam Bradford; (2) Mark Sanchez; (3) Matt Barkley; and (4) Tim Tebow.

It’s possible the Eagles have opted to pump up Barkley in a bit in the hopes of making a last-ditch effort to trade him. Or maybe Tebow simply earned his spot as the fourth finisher in a four-man race.

Not that his spot matters. With the Broncos, Tebow eventually vaulted from No. 3 to No. 1 when Kyle Orton was benched. In Philly, coach Chip Kelly may have plans for using Tebow that have nothing to do with where he lands on the pecking order.

For now, though, Tebow officially occupies a spot reserved for one of the 37 guys sent packing when the 90-man roster drops to 53.

  1. ridiculous! he should easily be 5th or 6th.. just pray that you’ll start Timmy, that’ll work

  2. Tebow still sucks but people still love him and point to his one playoff win while ignoring the fact that he is not an NFL QB. He has as many career playoff wins as TJ Yates, so how great is that? I bet he makes the Eagles though because Chip has the kind of ego that he believes he can get more out of him than any of the previous NFL coaches have. I don’t dislike Tebow, it’s the fanatical obnoxious over the top Tebow lovers that are the absolute worst that I don’t like.

  3. And much like Michael Sam in Montreal their performance on the field shows them what they really are… Great college players… Terrible pro football players

  4. At one point, Joe Montana was listed at number five on the Notre Dame depth chart. But he always seemed to win whenever he got into games. I guess Notre Dame must have had a great defense or something.

  5. chip doesn’t even do the depth charts…he has someone else put it together b/c every team is required to have it. he doesn’t really care how it’s organized and i’m not even sure he looks at it when it’s submitted.

  6. Did anyone really expect him to be anything other then the #4 QB at this point? The preseason games will determine who will end up where. How can he pass someone who’s been in the system for a couple years when all he’s done is run around in shorts and pads? Game action is what Chip wants to see and it starts Sunday versus the Colts.

  7. Chip has told the media the same thing every training camp when asked about the depth chart. The Eagles PR guy puts out the depth chart. That should tell you about how much you can read into it…

  8. And then Kelly denied Tebow three depth chart spots, and the Eagles crowed, and Kelly went outside and wept bitterly.

  9. At this point Tebow is like the real Jesus. Some swear by him, others question his very existence.

  10. The fundamentalist fanatics don’t care and no amount of evidence or facts will sway their devotion to him.

  11. I’m an Eagles fan. Honestly I was pissed off when we signed Tebow because I dont like the circus that he comes with, but honestly I think hes been great off the field and isn’t doing too bad on it either, and at this point I’d rather have him on the 53-man than Matt Barkley. The guy I used to call “Teblows” has come a long way. Hope Chip gives him a shot. There has to be a reason he was brought in – if he was just a camp arm, there’s alot of better/less-in-the-spotlight options that could’ve been had, like a UDFA or notorious camp arm like Tyler Thigpen, etc.

  12. You know who else was listed as the number four QB in preseason once?

    Tom Brady.

    (That’s totally not sarcastic. Really. I promise…)

  13. How is Tebow going to be a great two point specialist? He’s not a passing threat at all. Stack the box and he’s done.

The Atheist/Liberals who don’t even know the freaking DIFFERENCE between the term “fundamentalist” and “Evangelical” when it applies to Christianity will continue to hate him based on nothing related to football, and judge him according to his faith and not football capability.

  15. He could be #1 for either the Jets or the Bills…..and possibly Miami as well…..

With Brady suspended, and Crappollo playing like he has, he could even be a #1 for the Pats

  16. I expect to see a lot of Barkley and Tebow during the preseason game vs the Colts. That’s the only QB competition going on Philly. Sam Bradford has already won the starting job… quite easily and by a large margin.

I was skeptical on Tebow but he’s so far proved me wrong. The problem with Tebow is at times he’s looked like the 2nd best QB on the team and other times the worst, while Matt Barkely has had a consistently decent camp.

He has one more win than Carson Palmer and Andy Dalton.

  18. The problem with the Tebow debate is that many supposed NFL fans seem to be hateful, ignorant and just plain silly. Very few detractors can make an actual valid argument against him. Its the usual menu of diatribe, ad hominem attacks, and kaka.

Yes there are the blow-hards on the pro-TT side, but there are not a lot of them. Many who are pro-TT actually point out statistics that are irrefutably correct, yet they seem to carry little weight.

We get TT is not even an average QB, but he is not the worst. People always ALWAYS though out passing % (which does suck – I agree), but its not the only important stat in the book. You know what the most important stat is? It’s called “W’s” and is incredibly said to watch people agrue against “W’s”. TT has a winning %. TT has many other solid stats.

Is he a franchise QB – no, but there really is only a handful who are …. does tier 2/tier 3 automatically fall into worthless? of course note.

TT is special, exciting, brings out the fans, drives revenue $$ and has clearly done special things on the field. But OH NO his passing % is too bad, he’s not a QB!!!

Does he have to bring it this his possibly last time of course. Yes … But that is NO DIFFERENT from any other player.

I’d take him over Sanchez every second of the day. I’d take TT over Barkely same.

  19. You normally earn your position on a depth chart. Which is not to say that politics such as how much the team signed player for or what they traded for the player doesn’t influence it in the short term. But that’s usually the politics played between the starter and back up slots on the depth chart.

Third string is is normally earned. If the coaches can’t even see him as a third stringer that says a lot.

Everyone likes Tebow. But at some point the pity you can do it Tebow has to stop. He is a marginal QB who has been passed over by the Broncos, Jets, and Patriots. He couldn’t even hang on as a back up or third stringer in either of those teams. Are they all wrong?

  20. The real issue isn’t Tebow, it’s “how long” Brittle Bradford’s knees hold out ! He’s a great guy but it’s just a matter of time before his knees die and Sanchize steps in.

  21. This depth chart means absolutely NOTHING, a fact that Chip Kelly has publicly stated as such. Tim will make the roster

  22. Tebow 4.0 > Garappallo

    Manziel 2.0 > Garappallo

Geno Smith 6-10 weeks > Garappallo

7 sacks taken and 1 int (easily cold have been 2 more) from the near future of the Deflatriots Jimmy “Checkdown Charlie” Garappallo!

  23. So much hate for a person of faith. Amazing. Says alot. The Eagles will keep or cut him, depends upon if he can help them and they have a spot on their roster, like every other player.

  24. People get tired of him because he brings so much attention and he’s not even good. At least if he was a great player, others may be more able to stomach the media craze.

That doesn’t mean people hate him or even dislike him as a person. If it was anyone else with a similar skill set getting this kind of attention, you’d probably see a similar reaction.

  25. As a Giants’ fan, I’m willing to give the Eagles a “Tebow Exception” to the 53 man limit.

  26. i dont think Barkley is winning the job…i’ve been reading about how Tim is better than Barkley in camp, so i think this is just a last ditch effort to light a fire in Barkley…..my guess is though they are listing Tebow as 4th now because of experience, but i think after the preseason goes, Tebow will win the 3rd job.

  27. Tebow brings attention?

No you are 100% wrong. The media follows him everywhere in an attempt to discredit and vilify him solely because of his politically incorrect Christian beliefs.

He doesn’t invite the media, THEY (the media) assigns reporters TO Tebow.

    Do NOT blame Tebow.

If you do blame Tebow, then you MUST blame Ray Rice, Johnny Manziel, Dog killer Vick, Greg Hardy, and all the other miscreant NFL players that willfully run afoul of the law – for all the the “attention” brought to them.

  28. Barkley is better then him no doubt. Sanchez on the other hand Im not so sure. Cant believe he is still in the league. Not a pro caliber QB at all and it shows.

So much attention you mean. For a player of very limited ability.

    I don’t dislike him.

I just want to read, hear, see coverage of players and issues in the league in fair proportion to their relevance.

  30. Funny how people take all this stuff completely literal, Chris M has stated Barkley is on the trade block, you list him as 4 and there is no chance to trade him. Dont read anything into this.

  31. Tebow: So tell me, what are the chances of a player like you, and a coach like me, ever putting something together to allow me on the field as a QB?

Coach: Well Tim, thats really difficult to say, I mean, you aren’t really……..

Tebow: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to play in the NFL. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?

    Coach: Not Good…..

Tebow: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?

Coach: I’d say more like one out of a million.

    Tebow: So you’re telling me there’s a chance… YEAH!

At one point “crappollo” had 9 completions in a row, he was also behind a line that started with 2 of NE’s worst backups and 3 rookies and only went downhill from there.

Tebow would still be behind edelman on NE’s QB depth chart.

Um fundamentalist can apply to any religion…example: David Koresh.. Was a fundamentalist Christian.. Tebow is judged on his football aptitude.. I’ll admit he was an awesome college QB( as a fan of THE U)But to this point a subpar pro QB.

  34. “The fundamentalist fanatics don’t care and no amount of evidence or facts will sway their devotion to him.”

Exactly, most of these Tebow haters are totally deranged…

  35. 7 sacks taken and 1 int (easily cold have been 2 more) from the near future of the Deflatriots Jimmy “Checkdown Charlie” Garappallo!

Look! It’s someone who thinks preseason games played with offensive linemen who will be cut and practice squad receivers actually mean something.

  36. Tebow: So tell me, what are the chances of a player like you, and a coach like me, ever putting something together to allow me on the field as a QB?

Coach: Well Tim, thats really difficult to say, I mean, you aren’t really……..
    ====
    Oh man….
Tebow doesn’t know who’s the coach or and who’s the player. I don’t think that’s gonna work out well for him.

    (I keed…)

  37. If they keep timmy it will be to run a couple of gimmick plays here and there. Is that worth a roster spot__________________________

they probably wont keep him but with most teams likely to go for two instead of the extra point, he could be dangerous.

  38. cadreamer1969 says:

So much hate for a person of faith. Amazing. Says alot.

Um…..yeah, we’re all tired of hearing this, dude. What is says is “he can’t play”.

It’s got nothing to do with his faith. The league is full of ultra-religious players. Russell Wilson is every bit as religious as Tebow, maybe more so. He doesn’t get ripped because HE CAN PLAY.

How difficult is that to understand?

  39. How is he getting reps in camp?

Seriously, any Philly fans paying attention to camp who know? There aren’t enough guys to run drills with a 4th string so is he’s splitting time with Barkley and the 3rd stringers.

  40. I just don’t get the hate for this guy. Some of the comments you puerile use are just jealous & spiteful. Yea he got cut from the Broncos(cuz of them getting Peyton Manning), he didn’t make it with the jets( the head coach has a tattoo of Sanchez & loved the QB & Tebow never got a fair shot), he got cut by the Pats( they usually only carry 2 qbs & they said it was one of the hardest decisions they ever made), now he will get a chance with Kelly’s eagles. I hope he makes it! Tom Brady loves the guy, he’s a super hard worker, a positive influence in a league where players like hardy, rice, & junior gallete best up women. You have Hernandez killing people. Plus countless others being paid millions to be horrible people outside of playing a kids game. Why not hope for a wonderful human being? He will make a difference if he wins a spot on the roster. Getting worked up because he’s fourth at the start of training camp is jumping the gun. He’s a great athlete that will fit anywhere & I hope he makes it.

  41. Barkley is better then him no doubt.
    ———————————————————–
i dont know about that….i’m a huge Barkley fan, but i’ve read that Tebow’s been having a better camp. i think Barkley’s listed ahead of Tebow, but i think it’s a temp thing. i fully expect Tebow to win out in the end because 1) he’s a better fit for Kelly and 2) he throws less interceptions….Barkley’s been throwing more interceptions in camp. i hope Tebow beats out Sanchez, but i doubt it because Sanchez has shown improvement with the Eagles.

  42. Can you honestly say that half of the starting QBs are better than Tebow? Those teams with better QBs will be no better than 5-6 wins. How can you Tenow haters respond to that? All the teams with QB problems last year are in the same position this year.

  43. Not looking into this too much…..but behind Barkley on the depth chart?? I thought he was having a good camp—- Barkley is awful, down right terrible–

LOL, trying to pump up Barkley to increase his trade-value? Who in their right mind would trade for Barkley….I mean other than maybe the Clowns or J-E-T-S??

  44. Not to worry if Tim Tebow gets cut. He’s got a future as a politician for the Republicans. Just like Michael Sam has a future as a politician for the Democrats. Maybe they’ll face each other in a debate forum.

  45. Anybody who has been following the Eagles practices have read story after story of Tebow not reading defenses, being inaccurate, running too much….and ridiculous shuttle passes. It does in fact seem Kelly and Schurmer would love to find a spot for him as a 2-pt specialist, but it’s just not happening….

and it is true for the Eagles, the depth chart means nothing.

Yes, half of the starting QBs are much better than Tebow.. You know why? They can complete passes…..
He was 2-8 against the Chiefs..lmao
Don’t kid yourself, the defense and kicking game won those games….

  47. His mechanics are terrible. Just look at the pic. He dips his elbow/arm. That is the problem…

  48. The article isn’t confirmation of anything. CK didn’t choose that roster ranking, so what’s the point of the article? Barkley is as good as gone…No way they cut TT…you’ll see.

  49. just pray that you’ll start Timmy, that’ll work

Tempt the Lord at your own peril.

You might be wise to limit your inane jokes to just Tebow.

  50. Most of the Eagles beat reporters who have attended practices are picking Tebow over Barkley to make the team. An unscientific fan poll on Bleeding Green Nation picked Tebow as the 47th member of the 53 man roster – Barkley rarely gets a vote in this poll.

Kelly stated that the depth chart is “put together by the PR guys” – he’s too busy with stuff that matters. The depth chart won’t matter until September.

  52. Tebow is a terrible practice QB, his best games are on Sunday when he plays for the Lord!

  53. Brutal…….all the negative comments about Tim Tebow :-/. I hope he makes the roster and has some success this year. Prove them wrong Tim. Peace😁
