Seahawks safety Earl Thomas has practiced for the first time since the week before the Super Bowl.

Thomas was on the practice field today, the biggest step yet in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. Thomas injured his shoulder in the NFC Championship Game but played through it in the Super Bowl.

“I’m just happy that I got a chance to go out there today,” Thomas said. “My teammates were happy that I was out there and it just felt good to run around.”

But while Thomas was able to run around, he wasn’t able to hit, and he wore a red no-contact jersey. It’s unclear whether he’ll be all the way back in time for Week One, although coach Pete Carroll said having Thomas on the field for the opener remains what the Seahawks are aiming for.

Getting Thomas back on the field in time for Week One would be a big boost for the Seahawks.
