Rodney Harrison talks about claims of locker-room bugging

On Thursday morning, Tony Dungy of NBC’s Football Night in America appeared on The Dan Patrick Show, and Dungy confirmed that former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was concerned about the locker room at Gillette Stadium being bugged during games played there. On Thursday evening, Rodney Harrison of NBC’s Football Night in America responded during his new second job on NBCSN’s Pro Football Talk.

Rodney insists that the Patriots had no benefit when defending against Manning, ultimately pointing out that the Patriots aren’t the only team that has been able to shut down Peyton during the postseason.

The entire segment is worth a watch, despite my presence in it.

  1. Not saying it’s true but you honestly think Pats would share that info with players or even the whole coaching staff? Players and assistants change teams often, too much risk it would get out.

It would have to be known by a select few who had job security and would be on the hook if it came out. Who fits that description…..hmmmmmmm.

  2. Who hasn’t beaten Peyton in the post season? The pats don’t have a patern on that. If your Peyton Manning in the post season, you choke, that’s what you do.

Btw Peyton’s friends need to be careful about sliming dirt or people are going to start digging into things like the girl in the athletic department at Tennessee he raped when he was at college there that got hushed up

  3. Even if you think the Pats are cheaters at least they lose like men and don’t whine and cry when they lose. Did you see the Pats crying to the rules committee to get the rules changed when the Giants d-line dominated them not once but, twice in the Super Bowl? Nope. When the Colts and Ravens lose they it’s always not fair and they cry and complain and change the rules. Have some self respect. Seriously the Ravens have never in their entire history legitimately lost a game if you asked Harbaugh and Suggs.

  4. Wow dansardo, spell much? Any grasp on the English language at all?

It wasn’t rape, dip$#|t, he mooned her, maybe gave her the StinkFace at worst.

That story broke about 17 years ago. Welcome to this century.

  5. The home vs away differential is no different from what other great teams have accomplished. Let’s investigate the all the historic teams across every league: Cowboys, Steelers, Niners, Lakers, Celts, Bulls, Yankees, Braves, Cardinals, Canadiens, etc.

Clearly these teams – loaded with talent and well coached – were also cheating.

    LOL

  6. Is BB cheats so much, how come there are no accusations about his cheating in Cleveland?

Does someone become a serial cheater at the age of 50?

  7. I could see it now, higher ups collecting information on the their teams and once they got it I can hear them say, now run down to the locker room and tell Rodney Harrison what we know and how we got it. That will complete the circle of power!

  8. Man if Peyton Manning said it was true then it must be. He did’t sexually harass/rape anyone either because he said she had a foul mouth (and then paid an undisclosed sum to settle)

  9. Is BB cheats so much, how come there are no accusations about his cheating in Cleveland?

Does someone become a serial cheater at the age of 50?

Ah, but he lost in Cleveland and was fired. Does someone become a winner and great coach at 50?

  10. as a patriots fan manning has been one of my best friends over the years. i truly love him

  11. So you’re going to ask a convicted cheater about cheating? Cheating and lying go hand in hand.

  12. It is pretty sad that in todays society with social media and the internet and everything (and that is why the Patriots are the only dynasty that has been dragged through the mud, the others didn’t have a mud dragging forum…) that any accusation becomes written in stone for the tin foil hats wearing community.

I should create a fake username and just create fake rumors about the Patriots, guarantee that within 6 months there would be hundreds of you idiots citing these fake stories as fact. Maybe the first one I will create is that Brady isn’t really that good, but Belichick was breeding and training mosquitos to harness Manning’s blood when he visited Foxboro, and then used the blood to create Brady… Yeah, that sounds about right

I get that where there is smoke there is usually fire, but some of you people need to get a grip on reality. Or at least be all sanctimonious when other teams are caught cheating. Here is a summary of recent events, and the online reaction (and there are more than just these):

    Spygate/Patriots: Worst cheating scandal ever
Tapegate/Dolphins: No big deal, Phins wasted their time with that
Tripgate/Jets: No impact on the game, no big deal
Sideline Gate/Steelers: No big deal, Tomlin simply lost track of where he was standing
Deflategate/Patriots: Second worst cheating ever, the advantage of under inflated footballs is HUGE. A team of 53 PED users couldn’t beat a team using under inflated footballs
Salary cap violations/Broncos/Steelers/Cowboys/Redskins: No big deal, don’t even know why this is being talked about
Tampergate/Jets: No impact on the game, just a lame accusation
    Stickumgate/Chargers: No big deal
Ballghazi/Vikings/Panthers: No big deal, air pressure in footballs has no impact on the game (eye roll)
Crowd noise gate/Falcons: No big deal, no impact on the game
Cell phone gate/Browns: no big deal, no impact on the game
Suck for Luck/Colts: No big deal

In other words, cheating is no big deal, regardless of how big it was, or how much impact it had on the field, unless it is the Patriots. To be honest, there are commenters who have actually said (in not so many words) that cheating doesn’t matter when the team sucks, it only matters when the team is good

  13. man, the league is like a political noise machine. facts are finally getting sorted out with respect to deflategate, yet the NFL’s minions relentlessly churn out the propaganda in a losing effort to convince the public otherwise. can’t wait ’til the smackdown that’s coming their way

  14. Given the Patriots history with the rules, it wouldn’t surprise me if they did.

Show me 1 example of Brady blaming others for his loss? I can give you a ton of Manning doing that. And the Ravens? My god they have never lost a game, if you ask them.

  17. People believe these half truths and lies because they WANT to believe them….how else can the Pats be better than their team, they must be cheating!!! BS, they are better than your team for many reasons and the first two are Belichick and Brady. Now the league wants to suspend Brady for 4 games and take a first round draft pick away from Belichick…that’s how the NFL gets parady in 2015…..no wonder fantasy football is so popular, they are ruining the real game!

    Wow.
    1. Spy cams—filming from the wrong spot
    2. Bugged Locker rooms—-outright lie
    3. PED suspensions——par for the league
    4. Convicted murderer—sure you saw that coming and has nothing to do with football.
    5. Deflated footballs—-natural occurrence with drop in temperature, go to school and learn something and stop believing the lies.

  19. The cheaters have been cheating ever since they got a work released con to plow the snow against the Dolphins. They use cheaters and they are cheaters.

  20. Mevis and Bareback says:…..

Best comment I’ve seen in awhile, but you really hit the nail on the head with the last line – this only matters because the Patriots win, and for nothing else.

It’s funny, we look at the other great dynastys of the 49ers and Steelers, and their run was rank with cheating. Montana admits to his OL using Vasolene on their jerseys, Jerry Rice using Stickum, salary cap violations ~1995, and of course the rampant PED usage for the Steelers, but nobody talks about them. In fact, most fans are reverent in their depictions of those teams.

Why then is there hatred over the Pats? Is it perhaps that the cheating allegations regarding the other teams surfaced after their dynasty runs were all but over? Or was it something else?

Perhaps it’s because the Patriots have had the longest run of success of any franchise, in a league that promotes parity and the salary cap, both of which are specifically designed to level the playing field. No, we harp on these issues now because there aren’t supposed to be any dynasties, and teams aren’t supposed to be good for 15 years.

Bring up Spygate all you want, harp about Deflated footballs, but at the end of the day, the reason for repeated successes isn’t because of any foul play. It’s because of solid front-office leadership, innovative and remarkable coaching, and unparalleled success with Brady. That’s why the Pats win, and that’s why 2015 will be another year for the books.

  21. Didn’t Brady biatch yell at the refs a few times while running off the field? His pressers are always nicely thought out, but that is Press Conference Tom Brady bathe guy Pats fans know and love. The Real Tom Brady has cable.

  22. So this is Dungy saying that Manning was “concerned” they were being bugged? If Manning was that concerned why didn’t Manning say something? Maybe because it was all in their heads?

Q: A better question is: Why did Dungy wait all these years, until now with this full blown farce of a witch hunt falling apart, to make these totally baseless aspersions?

A: Because Dungy is a pathetic sore loser, of the same grade and caliber as the 2 other proven liar coaches, Harbaugh and Pagano.

That explains all the bandages in the locker room. I KNEW the hoodie was up to something!

  25. There were no bugs in the locker room. There were only rumors of bugs in the locker room to make Peyton think there were bugs. Then he’d step out of the protected space that is the locker room into the hallway to discuss strategy – the hallway with security cameras with sound. The hallway where it’s perfectly legal to have security cameras.

We now know why Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy are in football and not in spycraft.

  26. “SUMMARY: In 2010, the Broncos self-reported that former team director of video operations Steve Scarnecchia had videotaped a portion of the San Francisco walk-through practice before a game between the two teams in London. The Broncos were fined $50,000 for the violation and former head coach Josh McDaniels was fined $50,000 for not reporting it.

How it went down: on October 30, after the Denver players and most of the other team staff left their final walk-thru in Wembley Stadium, Scarnecchia remained behind to continue setting up his equipment for the next day. At one point he noticed that the 49ers were conducting their walk-thru practice, and he surreptitiously recorded a portion of it.”

Can anyone tell me why this wasn’t a bigger deal? (I am honestly asking, I had never heard of this)

Name one thing other than Spygate and this dumb incident? That an honest question
    _____
Mighty thick rose colored glasses there.

And a second gate should not scale? like it is OK? The only thing that did scale was the team fine the billionaire pays off. You got off easy once again.

  29. TRUST is EARNED….when your team gets caught video taping opponent practices then it isn’t much of a reach to expect deflated footballs, steroids, secret mics in the locker room…….

  30. Why, what team got caught taping practices? Never heard of that unless you are referring to The Broncos admitted taping of a walk through. Could you point me to some documentation of a team caught taping practices?

  31. There is that rumor ESPN just brought out again from 15 years ago saying Pats taped a practice. ESPN also apologized yesterday, but after midnight the sleaze bags
Pats are super bowl champs again.

  32. Classic mud slinging at its finest. I have no problem with people suspecting the Patriots it comes with the territory. Until it’s been proven it’s an accusation. But an accusation needs to be substantiated with fact like Aaron Hernanede is a murder, Peyton Manning being a choke artist and Roger Goodell’s being an incompetent commish. Like I said facts.

i think this is his point man. anything manning can do, including continuing to harass that girl after a gag order, and having to pay her three times bc he wont stop harassing her, is ok. but if some gas lets out of a football naturally, then you should be hung at noon in the square according to you guys.

  34. Why are there so many loser Patriots fans on here hopelessly trying to defend their team? As for the guy who asked why Cleveland didn’t work out for BB, he didn’t have his pal Ernie Adams totally on board then. Ernie has been more key to their success than Belichick’s coaching. And this bug story is old. Manning brought this up years ago and I wouldn’t doubt Gillette is packed to the brim with mics and cameras in the visitor’s room.

  35. Harrison,
You lied, you cheated, and you won many games like that and your friend the commissioner turned the other way..

    Which part didn’t you understand?

  36. I’m not a Patriot fan by any stretch but I just love the fact that teams sit around on game days and think about the alleged cheating ways of the Patriots. The fact that cheating is in their heads and NOT the game plan instituted puts NE way ahead before the game even starts.
