Derek Carr and Amari Cooper keep making plays

AP

Raiders fans are going to have fun watching Derek Carr and Amari Cooper.

Carr, the Raiders’ second-year quarterback, and Cooper, the rookie receiver, hooked up on a beauty of a 40-yard completion tonight in Minnesota. Carr threw a good-looking deep ball along the right sideline, and Cooper ran right to it and secured it before stepping out of bounds for a 40-yard gain.

After the Raiders’ first preseason game, Carr said it feels “awesome” to have a receiver like Cooper catching his passes. Carr had to feel that way watching Cooper make that over-the-shoulder catch of his deep ball tonight.

It’s been a long time since the Raiders have given their fans anything to be optimistic about, but in Carr and Cooper, they have the cornerstone of what could be a great offense for many years to come.

  1. I’m not saying they are gonna win a lot of games, but their offense is making positive strides. Cooper looks like a number 1 receiver for the silver and black

  2. Just keep the Defense off the field and they might win a few games. When Woodsons collecting SSI, along with Medical Ward Defensive Backs..There’s a problem.

  3. I’m not a Raiders fan but I’m a big fan of Carr. Just has that it factor. I always joked around in the beginning when loyal Raiders fans loved him after his first preseason but I’m a fan now.

  4. Teddy outplayed Carr so keep dreaming retard. Take away that one 40 yard pass that was out of bounds and juggled, and he threw for 30 yards. Teddys qb rating was 111.9. Thats 3 straight games over 100. Have another one dope.

Ummmm. No, he didn’t. I wouldn’t say either one of them outplayed each other, but it was obvious that Carr is the better of the two.

  6. Raiders will be 4-12 and Carr will make it sound like they’re playoff bound LOL.
    Just lose baby!!

Oh, and Niners Will smack Minnesota Monday night guarantee!

  7. I couldn’t care less about the hapless raiders but sometimes you watch a guy play and you’re like “this dude is going to produce some impressive football over the next 10 years”. That fanbase deserves a guy like Derek Carr, they are some of the most loyal in all of sports and that kid is going to be a great quarterback sooner rather than later

  8. Carr did ok and Bridgewater looked so-so. Teddy through a few key passes way off the mark that were fairly routing plays. He’s got good rapport with Johnson, but not with Wallace. If Peterson plays like it’s 2012, then the Vikes might have a little something, even though they’re defense is very average.
OAK’s defense is garbage, especially DJ Hayden. He was involved in nearly every negative play in the first half, including getting embarrassed on the TD to Johnson. Watch how DJ flails his arms like he was having some sort of panic attack trying to cover someone. OAK will maybe hit .500, in spite of a terrible defense.

How was it obvious? That was the only play the Raiders made. And, oh ya, TB hasn’t played with AP yet.

I think they’ll both be good, but TB is obviously playing better right now.

LOL. It’s preseason. Now who’s the dope? Raiders preseason philosophy = finding out what kind of players they have and how they play in different situations. Vikings preseason philosophy = trying as hard as they can to prove to the world that Teddy was the right pick.

  11. I was at the game also and besides the drunk college girl half my age hitting on me, the thing I enjoyed the most was the amount of time the OL was giving Carr.

  12. AC needs to remember that he’s not in college any more, but in the NFL, and to get those feet down. The receiver coaches need to teach him to drag his toes on the sidelines. We know he’s a first round pick, but he needs to play like an NFL receiver, not an NCAA receiver.

The Raider OL is doing a good job run blocking. Murray is the beast we saw last year and is effectively using that blocking. The Raiders will need to use that combo to help with the not so strong pass blocking (they can provide Carr with two seconds of bend but don’t break protection but that’s about it – which is why his Y/A were really low last year as there was no run game until late in season combined with the WR’s inablity to get off the LOS). It was nice that the protection was there to help give Carr time for the 3 +10 yard receptions (should have been 4 if Roberts pulled in that pass that was on his hands).

For Viking fans, Teddy looked really good. He has a strong OL (his receivers let him down as well).

  13. Bridgewater >>>>>>Super Star Carr

Wow, another dud performance by your NFL MVP in waiting. And was that really a catch by Cooper? How many did he have. One?

At least your penalties are in mid season form.

Man, same old Raiders. Who will be your HC next year?

  14. Our starting offense is def on point. I wouldnt say Bridgewater out performed Carr more than id say Hayden messed up twice covering the Johnson kid.

Bridgewater and Carr are both going to be the next generation of respected QBs though.

I think with this game Ben Heeney forsure cemented a starting role, cant have someone that flys around like that no t on the field tbh. Our secondary is still suspect i think Hayden probably just needs more reps cause he always plays good he just makes about 2-3 mental errors a game and they always end up being big plays.

Im pretty sure we have the ability to put up atleast 3 tds a game with the weapons we have now and if you can do that you can hang with any team.

  15. Cooper didn’t get two feet in on that play. If it weren’t preseason and they had another camera, the play would have been overturned. Inconclusive on the replay and the initial call was a completion.

  16. Hoculi’s crew being Hoculi’s crew they got the Cooper catch highlighted in this story wrong. Cooper had one foot in only.

  17. Both feet were in when Cooper had possession. The replays I have seen clearly show that. And Carr is better than Bridgewater, not even a question in that debate
