Brandon Bostick cut as Vikings drop to 78 players

Tight end Brandon Bostick was released by the Packers shortly after he mishandled an onside kick against the Seahawks in the NFC Championship game this year and signed with the Vikings a couple of days later.

Nothing quite so dramatic happened during Bostick’s tenure with Minnesota and there won’t be any in the future now that he’s been released by the team. Bostick had one catch for four yards in the preseason and found himself behind Kyle Rudolph, Rhett Ellison and rookie MyCole Pruitt this summer.

The Vikings also parted ways with running back Joe Banyard, who played 18 games for them over the past two seasons.

Cornerback Jalil Carter, cornerback Justin Coleman, cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke, wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, wide receiver Jordan Leslie, tackle Stephen Goodin, linebacker Josh Kaddu, defensive lineman Crishon Rose and defensive lineman Caesar Rayford were the other cuts in Minnesota.

  1. Good, we don’t need Packers left over. No way the guy who helped the Pack ten lose their game last year would make the Vikings roster, that’s for sure. We don’t need Packers chokers.

Hope Van Dyke can go on the practice squad

When a team release a player in the 1st round of cuts they have no intentions of putting them on practice squad, if they did otherwise they would have kept him past the 1st round of cuts.

  3. As a life long Vikings fan I just wish codythao35 would shut up! Most trolls at least take the time to make sure their writings are readable, half the time one has to reread codythao35’s garbage two or three times and yet one still can’t hardly make any sense of it. You constantly post garbage always about the Packers then have the audacity to cry about Packer trolls trolling our threads. If you were funny or came across as even slightly intelligent it would be almost tolerable. But, you don’t! You’re not funny and reading your garbage is actually painful to those of us with just a hit of intelligence. Either work at being funny and somewhat intelligent or just shut up! Seriously, you make the rest of us idiots by proxy!!

we got our info out of him. what we couldn’t understand, how the heck did he make your 53 man roster?

    ……………………
The fans didn’t sign him, dopey. They just laughed.

  6. You know what is more alarming that 8 people thumbed up his comment, well he probably maybe one of those that thumbs up their own comment.

  7. We all new he wouldn’t make the roster. He was just a camp player. Heck, Chase Ford who would be the #1 TE for Green Bley won’t make the team either. I bet the Pack sign him, we all know that the Pack love them some Viking scraps.

  8. I bet the Pack sign him, we all know that the Pack love them some Viking scraps

This is too funny for so many reasons. The Vikings are the king of signing Packer castoffs. The list is long. And of course Bostick himself was a Packer scrap.

  9. 0…. Championships….0……superbowls. How every Vikings conversation debate argument. Ends

  10. Banyard will catch on somewhere. He’s made it this long and is just as solid as alot of backs. He just ended up behind AP. Better than Trent Richardson for sure

  11. It’s pretty hilarious how bad the Vikings are, but enjoy another losing season!

We (Viking fans) didn’t sign him. The Viking organization signed him. But let me just make a point that your team signed him first and kept him much longer than the Vikings did. We all knew he was camp fodder whereas the Packers actually trusted him to be in a critical game at a critical time.

Matt Cassel was neither cut or the best player at his position. He was traded. Do you even watch football?

    ———————————

OK, I should have said “getting rid of the best player at his position”. You win, congratulations.

But in my defense, watching the Vikings is not really watching football.

Hows Letroy Guion doing on theGreen Bay Rodgers lights out defense? I wouldn’t laugh…With Quarles ready for his suspension, it would right up Diamond Ted’s alley to pick him up on the cheap..

You are right…The Green Bay Rodger-less team put on an exhibition of confidence and competence against the Eagles. Holding a team to less than 35 points in a half looks to be the new watermark for McMuffin.

Looks like the team is ready for the season…

Excuse me, but your team is full of Packers left overs. It’s where you come to fill your squad.

  18. As much as I dislike the Vikings, I was hoping to see Bostick make the team and play well. I felt bad for the kid after the NFCCG. It’s fun busting chops with other NFC North fans…well, not the Lions, they really don’t count for much…but I was pulling for Bostick.

  19. yeah, we have so many ex-packers.

Charles Johnson and Dujuan Harris. That’s it. So many, so many. Dujuan will most likely get cut, so one former packer will make the 53 and our team is full of them. nice math packer chump.

    Try again.

  21. Good luck Joe Banyard, he has always been one to occupy a lot of carries in camp and preseason but was not gonna break the starting lineup anytime soon, and having been around awhile would have cost more than a rookie who could also play special teams. I hope he catches on somewhere, but if we were gonna be anything special as a starting RB we would have found out by now.

Glad he finished his time with a touchdown run against Dallas.

  22. Anyone else a tiny bit concerned about the running game? Yes AP hasn’t played, but in 4 games we haven’t shown much at all in the running game. Vikings continue to move the ball well in the passing game, which is good to see, but we are still a run first team with AP.

  23. As a Packer fan, I could never figure out why they kept Bostick so long, he was never a factor as a TE. When asked about why he kept making the team, and for guys like Bostick, the standard response was something like “He has special teams value…”

In the NFC Championship game Bostick was not the one that was supposed to field the onside kick. Rather he was supposed to block for Jordy, but Bostick decided to try and be the hero rather than follow his job/role. So much for value on Special Teams.

Sadly, the Vikings realized much faster than the Packers the lack of value that Bostick possessed. He was a below average TE and an average at best special teams guy.

  24. That Packer game on Saturday is what the true team looks like without Erin. Once he is gone, the Packers are going to be the laughing stock of the league. No one will want to play in boring GB when there is no chance of winning.

  25. Bostick told Zimmer plenty about how to beat the Cheeseheads. So why keep him after that?

I’m sure there are other sloppy seconds that the Queens front office brought in through Craigslist.

Thumbs up to ‘woodstakes’ because these kinda things would be fun if it were not for Neanderthalish posts by Viking trolls giving their few diehard fans bad names.

It’s also hilariously sad to see the peddling of the 1969 season’s conference championship as a modern NFL (world) championship. Did the Queens win Super Bowl 4? Nope. Any world championship ever? Nada. For all the jokes about choke jobs Minnesota might be the Queen of them. Whatever makes you sleep better until crawling back under that rock around week 7 like every year.

  27. Anyone who thinks that the Vikings brought in a former 3rd string TE who couldn’t make the field (because he was too stupid to learn the playbook) to get information from them is fooling themselves.

Installations for the coming year happen in the off season on both Defense and Offense. There is no information of any value to give. During the season this has some merit, but in reality only if it is a QB.

    Typical Vikes fans.

  28. Training camp fodder. Which is fine. 37 players get cut from the start of camp to the start of the regular season. I wish all of those guys who get cut the best of luck as they continue to chase their dream.

Besides, I’ve never hated Packer players or former Packer players. It’s their fans I can’t stand.

  29. It was funny when the Vikings did sign Bostick, he had some talent but was dumber than a box of rocks so he never saw the playing field in a complicated offense that the Packers run.

Still, I thought his lack of intellect would make him a perfect Viking, smart enough to play ineffective football, dumb enough to think finishing in last place is no big deal.

Why on earth are you flapping on the Vikes signing Darren Sharper and Mossy Cade?

Only a Packer fan would boast about those guys being former players for their team. SMH.

  32. Queen bay fans flap about Clay, I mean Fabio with his 45 tackles for the year. Less than 3 a game from a inside backer nice defense.

  33. Typical Minnesota logic. I keep looking for the part with the boasting and just cannot seem to find it. Each one of those ExPackers-picked-up-by-Queens has warts of different degrees, isn’t this much obvious? Frazier28/7 seemed to claim the past never happened so there’s your list.

Cade did some horrible stuff and after he got convicted Minnesota decided that’s their kinda guy so let’s bring him in.

Need to stick your head in the sand on history? I’m sure there’s a perfectly good rock right next to it. Besides, the Queens have already won the training camp championship just like every year!

  34. Fortune in the NFL turns on a dime.

One minute you’re the hero of the NFC championship game, the next you’re unemployed. Good luck to you, Mr. Bostick.

Care to show me what Viking fan said the 69 NFL Championship was being compared to a World Championship? The FACT is the Vikings were NFL Champions for that year. Yes, it’s similar to what is now the NFC Champions but back then it was the NFL. Whereas the KC Chiefs who won the superbowl that year were AFC Champions. Those are facts. Not one Viking fan is twisting that. It’s usually Packer trolls that twist it.

    1) Seems Viking (and other) fans said the same thing when Favre left.
    2) Seems Viking (and others) said Rodgers would be too brittle to last.
    3) Seems Viking (and other) fans seem to gauge what a team would look like based on preseason.

    Well, if that’s true:
Then the Vikings are in trouble as the Packers backup Brett Hundley out performs Teddy Bridgewater.
