Report: AC joint sprain for Randall Cobb

AP

Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb feared a broken collarbone when he was first injured in Saturday’s game against the Eagles, but they were able to rule out an injury of that severity before the night was over.

Cobb went for further tests on Sunday and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that he has been diagnosed with a “minor” AC joint sprain.

It’s a better outcome than a broken collarbone, certainly, but Cobb probably can’t be assured of playing against the Bears in Week One. Players have missed good chunks of time with similar injuries — Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson hasn’t played at all in the preseason after spraining his AC joint early in training camp — and it will take some time before the Packers will have a clear idea about his status.

If Cobb can’t play, the Packers would start their season without both of their top wideouts since Jordy Nelson is out with a torn ACL. Barring any additions from outside the organization, Davante Adams, Jeff Janis and Ty Montgomery would likely be the top three receivers in their absence.

  1. as a Bears fan to Packer fans- you have Rodgers vs Cutler in a similar situation. Marshall is gone, Jeffery hasn’t played the whole preseason, Royal missed the last PS game and
the Bears defense just looked clueless against Cincinnati. you have no problems.

Rest him against the Bears in Week 1. He won’t be needed against that train wreck of a team.

    Typical arrogance!
I will be waiting for the excuses as the losses pile up.

  3. If Cobb isn’t available for the first couple games, another name that probably will figure prominently for the Packers is Miles White. Until Cobb is back, I would bet on White putting up bigger numbers than Montgomery or Janis. He’s been around the pack for awhile.

  4. Next man up. I guess packers got all the talent at wr position. Even their grandma can play fast when she helps them get to the bottom of nfc north pack ten.

  5. The Packers are so deep at WR that last year, the Vikings #1 WR couldn’t even make the Packers final 53.

Hope Cobb comes back but next man up is the battle cry inside the Packers locker room.

  6. Better than a broken bone, but still smarts.

I blew mine out surfing with an 4th degree AC joint sprain and it hasn’t been the same since.

Pulled into the tube and got bounced off the bottom.

    Not fun.

    Go Raiders

I totally agree. It’s Myles, by the way. White has been awesome this preseason. Did you see that one handed catch while going done after being seriously interfered with against the Eagles? He’s starting to resemble a young Wes Welker. He’s excellent in the slot and is working on his outside game as well this year.

  9. First, they have Aaron Rodgers, so that’s 10 wins right there…and I’m a Lions fan. But, AC Joint? This sounds like something that could linger for the entire season if not handled correctly.

Still, they sweep Bears and split with Vikes and Lions.

  10. This must suck for codythao, since he and plenty other Viking fans were hoping our players get hurt. Sadly for them, we’re still the better team compared to the lowly Vikings LOL!

  11. Davante Adams, Jeff Janis and Ty Montgomery–now there’s a trio whose names are sure to strike fear into the hearts of opponents across the NFL. Not.

  12. Why hasn’t Mike McCarthy been fired? He’s the most overrated coach in sports. Last years NFC championship game exposed his ineptness. That epic choke job was on his hands, and should of been fired right after the game.

Now with these injuries, he’s just showing more and more he’s doesn’t know what he’s doing.

give it 5 more weeks. they’ll be picking up guys from the cfl to fill spots

That oughta stay up more than 5 minutes.

  17. It’s a minor sprain and he initially thought it was broken? Must be something in the GB water that turns people into soft divas, and makes them forget how to play defense.

  18. All the predictions of doom and failure is nothing more than wishful thinking from Viking trolls who are tired of their team being owned by the Packers. That’s it.

you’re right letroy guion worked out great for green bay…this is going to be sweet watching the packers implode…packer fans never use excuses? bwhahahaha, as more players drop, and if and a big if, they lose rodgers too, i can just hear it then, as if rodgers is the only qb in the entire league.

  23. Forget Cobb. Sam Bradford looked the best he has every played on Saturday night. It looked as easy as when he was at Oklahoma. And the Packer special teams seem to have picked up right where they ended the season last year. At least the horse collars were good that night.

  24. First of all, let’s get one thing straight. Pre-season means nothing except for the injuries which occur.
So all you Eagles fans who think you’re Super Bowl bound — wake up. The season is the real test.

Injuries are the great equalizer in the NFL and right now, the Packers have their fare share. But all you fans who are happy the Packers are getting hurt by inuries beware — they happen to every team and you just never know which player your favorite team could lose.

In the end, it’s quality backups and good coaching which will overcome injuries. I saw the Packers win a Super Bowl under Mike McCarthy with maybe the most banged up team which ever won a Super Bowl. In fact — I’ll say it. They were the most banged up team to ever win a Super Bowl. If you don’t believe me, look it up. They had backups playing for backups, in some cases. And 14 players were on IR, as I recall.

So, I am confident the Packers are still going to be very competitive on a week-to-week basis.

AC joint sprain probably a Grade 1.. he should be ready in two weeks..
    —————————————————————–
You don’t know that. There are at least five different grades of AC sprains aka shoulder separation and two weeks is a pipe dream.

  26. Please stop using expressions from 5 years ago

In 2010 the expression, ‘next man up’ was cool and new

Now in 2015, the expression is over-used and dated.

face it – you do not replace a WR of Nelsons’ caliber with another body.

Adams needs to show up for every game this year, not the 5 games he showed up for last year and the Packers better hope that a big name receiver gets cut due to salary cap.. that could save our season

  27. 1) There is little concern.
    Everyone should learn to R-E-L-A-X.

    2) Never ever underestimate the Bears. They are going to put the viking in last place again. Okay that is not saying much for the Bears but they do deserve respect.

  28. “Someone call Robert Brooks.”

Someone call Randy Moss,he is talking comeback and the Packers and Rodgers wiould make him a star.

  29. “they lose rodgers too, i can just hear it then, as if rodgers is the only qb in the entire league.”

Rodgers isnt the only QB in the entire league, he is just the best QB in the league but even without him they would beat the Vikings and Bears,………twice.

It’s relevant because the NFL says it’s relevant. What happens in 10 or so years when there are a dozen or so teams in Europe, will the current Super Bowl wins be irrelevant?

  31. If that were to ever happen, we’d still beat the Vikings and win the division. So for you Leatherface, it’s yet another disappointing season.. Again LOL. Enjoy never winning a Superbowl

  32. As a Packers fan – *never* discount the Bears.

This will be a tough game. The Packers will be fortunate to come out with a win.

  33. How is the Packers’ trainer still employed? If I was as bad at my job as he is at his, I’d be out on my butt.

hmm, he’s the best, yet aside from winning the super bowl feb of 2011, he hasnt done squat since

  37. can we just put away the packers are the best for the last 90 years nonsense? sure the vikings are 0-4 in super bowls, all back in the 1970s. but since january of 68, the packers have won exactly 2 superbowls. thats 2 in 47 years..TWO!! cowboys have more, steelers have more. raiders have more. patriots have more. 49ers have more. denver has 2 also. so to say green bay is THE dominant team of the last 40 years or whatever, is a total fabrication.

  38. they better pray they get past the bears other wise that could be the tie breaker with the lions and Vikings. and for leatherfaces comment the last time aaron was out the best you could come up with was a tie with a Ponder led Vikings Teddy’s a lot better

  39. Just gotta say Cobb sounds like a girl. I accept hat he’s an exceptional wr, but to say he thought he broke his collar bone and it turns out to be a sprain? Diva. As a Viking fan, with Jordy out, I’m more concerned about D Adams than Cobb anyway. That said, hope Cobb recovers quickly.

  40. McCarthy is a complete buffoon, why was Cobb even in the game. If Rodgers wasn’t playing, why was Cobb, did Cobb need reps with the backup QB?

I’m amazed that McCarthy still has a job in GB, he lucked into a SB win and his stupid decisions has cost GB numerous times.

Super Bowl wins are all that counts. No one cares that your team beat the Dayton Triangles 90 years ago.

But if your had ANY titles at all I would bet good money you would count them. I also would bet that if we had a way to talk to the players and fans of those teams I bet a championship meant a lot to them.

So by your logic many of the Yankees titles should be discounted, many of the Celtics, and many of the Giants and Bears as well. Yep history only goes back 40 years.

  44. A pro football championship occurs when the following happens:
    1. your team beats out other division teams to qualify for the playoffs
    2. your team endures the intensity of a single-elimination tournament vs the other conference competitors
    3. your team beats the best the other conference has to offer in a single championship game.

If those 3 didn’t happen, your award is nothing more than a participation trophy.

  46. A pro football championship is…

Something that the Vikings have never won in the entire 55 year history of their futile dumpster fire of a franchise.

Something that the butthurt fans of a dumpster fire franchise desperately try to redefine in order to soothe the aforementioned butthurt.

It is real stock. It is common stock. With it you can vote in the owners meetings and have the ability to buy owner related material. I would rather have a team do that to raise money and not tax the entire state to build a giant green house, since their team is too scared to play outside.
