The rib injury suffered by 49ers defensive tackle Darnell Dockett in last weekend’s preseason game vs. the Broncos is not believed to be serious.

Tuesday, 49ers coach Jim Tomsula said Dockett has a cartilage issue, not a cracked rib, and Tomsula said he expects Dockett to be available for the Sept. 14 season opener.

Dockett posted a picture on Snapchat Monday while receiving treatment and called it a cracked rib.

Dockett, 34, did not play last season after suffering a torn ACL in the preseason while he was with the Cardinals. He’s expected to be a rotational player on the remade 49ers defense.

Snapchat? What, yet another social media outlet? Stop the madness. Just stop.

  3. Who needs Darnell Docket when you’ve got Mike Purcell out there blowing people up, jumping off the screen! Mike Purcell for DPOY!

  4. I’m not making any projections til the 3rd quarter, that 9er team could come out flat or come out pissed and fighting. and then there’s the whole grass situation, so who knows. but it would be nice to start the season with a blowout.

  5. Dockett is done … He has been done for a years now he just refuses to accept. 2012 Pro Football Focus ranked Doc worst 3-4 in NFL . 2013 Dockett ranks 32 of 45 3-4 DEs. He had 4.5 sacks in 2013, 2 came in week 3 though vs and undrafted rookie FA OG once the Saints starting LG left with knee injury. Dockett only had 2 more over the next entire 13 weeks left of the season…Ranks as worst run blocking DE in the NFL. 2014 suffers weird ass non contact blown knee injury. Dockett needs to put out to pasture after this year is over ……..
