Reggie Wayne looking good in a Patriots uniform

For the most part, the fourth and final game of the preseason features backups and scrubs. So it’s notable any time a recognizable player is on the field.

In New England, a very recognizable player is on the field: Reggie Wayne, the veteran receiver who has now caught his first passes in a Patriots uniform.

Wayne made an excellent play to catch an 18-yard pass from Ryan Lindley along the sideline and also picked up a six-yard gain. He repeatedly did a good job of getting open against the backups in the Giants’ secondary, although Lindley missed him a couple times.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick has said that when Wayne played for the Colts, he was the best receiver the Patriots played against every year. Belichick has to like the look of Wayne as a Patriot.

  1. I always liked this signing, reminded me of the chad Johnson signing( though I hope it ends better). I feel as though Wayne is a lot smarter than chad ever was, I amwojt pretend to know either of them though.

Wayne’s hands didn’t go away and he will still be a crisp route runner. I’m certain he isn’t the player he used to be, and clearly has lost a step but you couple his talents with Brady’s accuracy and stout short to intermediate passing game and it could be a nice duo.

    Best of luck Wayne

  2. Reggie Wayne is the most obvious 2nd to last round of your 12 team fantasy league draft pick. Just grab him while everyone is getting kickers and prepare for the oooohs and aaaahs cuz he is buried on the rankings still.

  3. It’s hard to believe that either Amendola or Edelman won’t get dinged up and that the Patriots will really need Wayne to step up. The LaFell injury is a real concern now. Wayne is a great pickup.

  4. The Colts could make the Patriots visitor locker room 350 degrees and pipe in sounds of millions of trolls reading Berman’s decision for the first time and they’ll still lose by 50 points. Belichick is going to write his masterpiece this season, I’m just happy to be alive to see it.

Fantasy boards are absolutely stacked at WR this season. Plus there are a whole pile of sleepers comprised of rookies and guys in a new situation who may take off. Wayne is in that latter category, but he’s hardly the same as say Marshall landing with the Jets.

He’s going to have a slightly upticked role from what he had last season with the Colts, but he’s a year closer to the end. There are way better options, even for your bench.

  6. Colts fans must be sick at the sight of Wayne in a Patriots uniform. As a Pats fan, my sickening nightmare is Brady playing in the green and white of the Just End The Season Jets Jets Jets.

  7. Reggie Wayne was always the toughest WR they faced – even when they had Harrison and Dallas Clark. Wayne was a tough guy who never got intimidated. The other two did.

It is obvious he has lost a step. He was a pretty indifferent blocker on running plays last night.

Not sure he makes the team.
