Vegas bumps line in wake of Brady ruling

There have been and are going to be responses from all around the football world to Judge Richard Berman’s decision to wipe out Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s four-game suspension.

Some of those responses will be official, like the NFL’s notice of their plan to appeal the decision, and some will be less formal, like the victory lap that the Patriots are taking on Twitter Thursday. We’re not sure exactly where Las Vegas sportsbooks fall into that spectrum, but we do know that plenty of people are paying attention to them and that they were paying attention on Thursday morning.

VegasInsider.com has the lines from a variety of books and, as you’d expect, they show that the Patriots have become stronger favorites in the wake of the ruling. Most books had the Patriots as 3- or 3.5-point favorites coming into Thursday and they’ve now been bumped up to 6.5- or 7-point favorites with Brady now set to be in the lineup.

If enough bettors believe that the Patriots will be able to pour it on at home against a Steelers team that will be missing Le’Veon Bell, Maurkice Pouncey and Martavis Bryant on offense and a remade defense in its first regular season game, that line will get even bigger over the next week.

  1. And I just called the cops and asked them to keep an eye on my Maine mansion in case Goodell tries to egg it. You can’t be too careful!

  2. I don’t know why…the Pats with no Revis, Browner, Wilfork, are just going to be like any other team in the NFL that makes the playoffs. Offense gets you there but no D and no Lombardi.

  3. I don’t go in for this Goat stuff much. Different eras, different teammates. But if Brady an have a decent yer at age 38 with all he has been through the last 8 months, he is one mentally tough sob.

  4. What could be most entertaining about the game? What colorful chants will be heard about your dear leader, Roger Goodell? Foxboro will never be louder.

  5. Can’t wait for week 5 against the Colts, aka, the perpetrators of the failed sting operation.

We may need to invent some new adjectives to describe how much the Patriots are going to run up the score.

  6. No way I’m betting on this corrupt garbage.

Truth be told I actually stopped when the refs approached Jeff Fischer on MNF and asked him to use timeouts so they could squeeze in more commercials.

It was a nothing game but a ref doing that??? …those are potential spreads & over/unders.

  7. Steelers will be fine. Their star running back and receiver are both suspended and they are facing the no. 2 QB in the league. But they have a mighty QB who can actually put up as many as 15 points a game! Awesome! LOL.

  8. The Steelers didn’t stand a chance even if Brady was suspended, now it will be just a matter if the Pats win by 2 or 3 touchdowns. Ruthlessbooger is an average Qb at best, certainly will never be considered in the same breathe as Qb’s such as Manning, Brady, etc.

  9. People who say “book it” after making a claim or prediction just look silly. Book it, yeah okay whatever. I imagine these as the same guys who wear bluetooth phone pieces in their ears and sunglasses indoors.

  10. Steelers will be fine. Their star running back and receiver are both suspended and they are facing the no. 2 QB in the league. But they have a mighty QB who can actually put up as many as 15 points a game! Awesome! LOL.

Funny I laughed at the ease Big Ben tossed 6td’s against the criminals last year. And I laughed at Toss it Up Joe and Pray for PI Flacco blew two 14 point leads to the Cheetahs…..lol

  11. Brady is still a lying cheater. Always will be ****

The big question is, when will the Patriots get caught cheating again. My guess is sooner than later and it will be something involving helmet communications and/or the opponents’ verbal signal calls made at the line of scrimmage. Plus, Ernie Adams in the back room telling a sixth round fraud where to throw the ball as the play unfolds.

  12. And I just called the cops and asked them to keep an eye on my Maine mansion in case Goodell tries to egg it. You can’t be too careful!

Funny I laughed . And I laughed ..lol

Nervous laughter is prevalent when facing week one doom.

  15. “Steelers will win the game. Book it.”

Lol whenever someone uses the phrase “book it” on this site they end up being wrong 100% of the time from what I’ve seen.

Smart money on the Pats, whiners money on the Steelers lolz

  16. Something tells me we’re in for a 2013 Ravens-Broncos Wk 1 game against the defending SB champs*

  17. Any coward bragging about how they’ll beat the Steelers while they have Bell and Bryant out is a coward indeed.

Justice would be the Steelers doing what the judge was afraid to do, and level their own 4-game suspension on Loophole Tommy.

  18. There sure are a lot of confident people here. Last time I checked, the Pats defense doesn’t exactly scare anyone.
I’m not very confident that the Steelers will win, but a lot of you are helping to make it sweeter if they do.
