Report: Reggie Wayne thought playing for Pats was “not fun”

AP

Veteran receiver Reggie Wayne had a short stay in New England. As one source with knowledge of the team’s approach to veteran players explained it, the team has a habit of bringing in an older player long enough for him to get familiar with the other players, the coaches, and the system, in the event that the Patriots need him later.

If that was the objective with Wayne, he may not want to come back if the Patriots need him later. Scott Zolak, who works on the team’s radio broadcasts and played for the Patriots, reports that Wayne asked to be released because the “work environment was tough,” and because the situation was “not fun.”

Even if football is supposed to be fun, it doesn’t take a genius to know that football, fun, and Bill Belichick don’t really go along. And if Wayne doesn’t find anything else, he’ll have ask to himself whether he prefers having no fun not playing football to having no fun playing football.

  1. He had to know going in that playing for Belichick wouldn’t be fun. It’s not easy learning the playbook. I would rather have no fun and play football on a team that always contends and possibly win another ring. He made almost a half million not having fun for a couple weeks. I’d say he did okay.

  2. Playing for the Patriots may not seem like fun now,but it’s awfully fun holding up the Lombardi trophy at the end of the season.

  3. This really tells you all you need to know about both the Patriots and the Colts: one team is raising an NFL Championship Banner while the other is content with being and “AFC Finalist”

That’s it in a nutshell. Wayne was comfortable and content on an AFC Finalist but couldn’t cut it with the Champs.

Must really be lousy rooting for the tattletale Colts.

  4. Fun? It is the end of training camp. It is time to get to work. Give a player a football helmet and help them be the best football player they can be today.

  5. Much respect for Reggie, still putting ‘fun’ over all else.

I loved my career (retired) and it was a HUGE difference from earlier employment which made getting out of bed difficult.

Rooting for Reggie to seek some more fun…

  6. Yeah, Reggie. That’s what it takes to win at a high level. If you’re looking for easy, go to Buffalo and collect a check.

  7. The image that Belichick presents in the media is just that—an image. He can be hilarious when he wants to be.

  8. He discovered that it’s more fun to be on a team that wins fair and square than to be on a team, such as the Pats, who cheat to win.

  9. Aw, he should of stayed and learned all about the “Patriot way”, you know…how to cheat. How to use a spy cam, what to do if you get caught doing something, like destroy your phone.

  10. If you spend over a decade immersed in a lockeroom culture fashioned by Jim Irsay, you will become maladapted to the Patriot Way.

What is even worse news for Reggie Wayne is that few other teams could possibly accommodate him. He has been irreversibly corrupted by a trashy and juvenile system.

  11. That’s why in his 15 year career he only has one super bowl. When the colts cheated by using owner Jim Irsay who sits on the rules committee who changed the pass interference rules to two hand touch football the colts finally got their Super bowl. They cheated again to get Andrew Luck also by going 2-14 to lock up the number one overall pick. Much worse than 1/10th of a psi loss of air pressure caused by cold weather.

  12. Maybe Reggie can go back to Indy, have lots of fun and receive a playoff participation trophy while Bob Kravitz sheds a tear watching his muse, Bob Irsay hang another “AFC Wildcard Qualifier” banner to the rafters.

  13. easy to see why those”tough” colts teams even though talented only won 1 super bowl! lost alot of respect for reggie i mean really u thought a bellichick team was gonna be fun like party time pats teams have their fun when the season is over and they get their rings

  14. Reggie Wayne has been a great WR. However, he should have understood that New England has much higher standards than other teams. If he came in thinking Belichick and Brady were going to be easy on him, he was ill-prepared. What was OK for Peyton and Luck doesn’t cut it with Brady and BB.
Thanks Reggie for your efforts, you can say that you have caught passes from 3 of the best.

  15. Well that explains it. The Colts have 1 SB cause they’re having fun in practice. The Patriots have been to 6 SB and won 4, cause they’re busting their asses off.

  16. Sounds like a man ready to retire.

Things aren’t fun when you go from great to below average and you really have to fight to get back to just barely worth keeping around.

Then again, you know what’s really fun? Winning. Good luck, Mr. Wayne.

  17. Haters think it takes a completely imaginary -0.2psi (or some other invented, evidence-free notion of wrong-doing), to win championships. However, the boring truth is they work their butts off even harder than others do – that’s what all the top teams do. But Wayne’s comment may say more about why the Colts aren’t champs rather than why Belichick has 6 rings.

  18. Perhaps he found it…deflating?

*throws on shades, jumps on waiting dirtbike, and wheelies outta here, suckas*

  19. There comes a point in a veterans career where you have to enjoy (have fun) with what you are doing. When that goes away it’s time to go. That simple.

I am sure it was much different for Reggie in Indy. He was there a long time. He knew where everything was and knew everyone. And everyone knew him. Comfort level was much higher there for him there.

Don’t blame him one bit. Best thing for him is ask Irsay for a 1 day contract and officially retire as a Colt.

  20. I couldn’t envision reggie playing with the pats and it turns out he just stopped in for two weeks to collect a cool 500k paycheck and burn ol cheating bill one last time! Retiring in epic fashion lol

  21. Are you not entertained!!! Are you not entertained!!!!!! Isn’t that why you’re here!!!!
    -Maximus Belichick

  22. On the other hand, winning rings is probably more fun for NFL players than anything else…

I have to say, if Rob Gronkowski is seemingly enjoying his time in New England, being a man-child and all there must be enough fun to go around. I have a hard time seeing him being happy if he isn’t getting to enjoy himself at least a solid amount.

  23. Not sure Reggie has anything left to prove. He’s made his money and if he’s just playing for the love of the game at this point, he doesn’t have to do it where there is no joy in it for him.

  24. Reggie has always been a brad working, team first player. I sincerely doubt he was worried about having fun. Probably just wants to play and have one last shot at another title.

  25. I don’t doubt Wayne asked to be released.

I do have doubts he said exactly those things. Zolak isn’t exactly objective.

I think it’s more likely Wayne thought he had more in the tank than he has. A few drops in preseason and he starts to have second thoughts.

  26. I guess this explains why the colts aren’t very successful. Too much fun and not enough seriousness. Hard work ain’t fun or else everyone work be champions.

  27. Typical Indy loser

Does he want to sweep parking lots or win rings?

I guess we have our answer

Reggie get the hell out of the way of the dynasty, stop wasting our time

    We own the nfl

    #kisstherings

  28. This tells you everything you need to know about the difference between how the Patriots and the Colts approach football. One team thinks it’s supposed to be fun, another team thinks it’s a job.

  29. It’s clear that you are a die hard Pats fan Mike. Obviously he is fine not playing football with a team that he doesn’t enjoy being with. Sorry if not everyone wants to play for scumbags.

  30. Sorry, Reggie, but a “tough work environment” is why we hang Super Bowl banners in New England and not the AFC Finalist banners you were used to in Indy while you were having “fun”.

  31. “And if Wayne doesn’t find anything else, he’ll have ask himself whether he prefers having no fun not playing football to having no fun playing football.”
    _______________________________

Maybe when he have asks himself, he’ll realize that there are countless things to do in life that are fun that don’t involve playing football with a group of stuck-up cheaters.

  32. Work…. is generally not fun. Perhaps it was the fact that he wanted to have “fun” that caused him to no longer be a part of the Colts’ plans.

You was hard workers, not people there to have “fun”.

    Sheesh…

  33. He admittedly had trouble learning the playbook. He was humble in his comments that things were tough. He said something about practice being hell. These things happen. He is used to working inside a climate controlled dome. I was looking forward to seeing him play here but I wish him well.

    Go Patriots!! #FreeDBrady 🙂

  34. Reggie got paid $450,000 for putting up with Bill Belichick for 11 days. It may not have been fun but he can buy 50 barrels of Jack Daniels at Costco with the cash, and drown his disappointment.

  35. Go to the Patriots, work harder than you ever have, not have “fun” and be in the Superbowl hunt every year. Play for the Colts, have “fun” but either go one and out or completely miss the playoffs.

And that friends, is what is wrong with the Colts……

  36. Not terribly surprised, and at his age he didn’t really have anything to offer. Enjoy retirement Reggie, you’ve earned it.

  37. Ive always respected Reggie’s game and reported work ethic. Based on these comments he comes off being whiny and unlikable. Most people arent have fortunate enough to have their job be playing a game. A game that pays you well enough to financially retire before 40. So either retire or be quiet play for another team but don’t go spouting off how tough and not fun the environment is.

  38. “Winning is only half of it half of it. Having fun is the other half.”
Unless of couse your the Patriots and you spend the other half scheming on ways to Cheat!

  39. Cheater cheaters fake super bowls. Thats all next patriots article will be followed by this post again an again an again for ever. Soo everyone keep this trend.

  40. It’s a tough time for the new players on the team and lots of the stars were sidelined in preseason. Of course it’s not going to be fun. Trying to learn that offense with Brady tied up in sham hearings. Probably pretty hard. That said, it’s why you get paid around a million a year minimum.

  41. I thought that when he signed with NE he said he did it because he wanted to win. I guess he was more interested in having fun than in putting in the work that it takes to win. It must be some country club over in Indy.

  42. Or, give billy boy a taste of his own medicine… And take whatever of the playbook and audibles you learned in your short time there, and give them to other teams. Especially the Colts, and the Patriots division opponents.

  43. I really hoped Wayne would catch on, but I guess it just wasn’t a good fit. Reggie wants to have fun, and the Patriots just want to win the next game on their schedule.

  44. He’s not the first high profile receiver to not adapt well to the Patriots’ scheme. Maybe it wasn’t a fit, or maybe it was simply too much to absorb in too short a time.

    ——————————————————————–

Sweet dude, keep us relevant when we aren’t busy winning!!

  46. Of COURSE it wasn’t fun. A beyond-reproach distinguished veteran from a good organization probably felt like he had to take a shower every second he wore a cheater’s uniform.

  47. To be fair to Wayne its a tough place for vet wideouts to go and succeed.

Based on what happened to Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson I wasn’t expecting Wayne to succeed especially at his age and based on the fact that he looked like he had nothing much left last season.

I wish BB would kind of stop picking up these past their prime veterans now. It doesn’t work for the Pats and just wastes everyones time.

Pats probably need to dpend their first pick next draft on a wideout. Just a shame that won’t be a first rounder.

Anyway, that’s my thoughts on the subject. Now back to the eternally witty and original ‘he didn’t want to catch deflated footballs’ and ‘Patriots are cheaters’ posts that amuse and enlighten us all in equal measure.

PS: What happened to the PFT website?? Its all different.

  48. Wow! Of all the veteran players that have landed in New England, I never thought I’d hear something like this from Wayne. If you had told me Ocho “Stinko” said it, during his stint, I’d have replied with “figures” or something similar; but Wayne?

    Well, better to “weed-em-out” early.

  49. New England has a doorstop of a playbook–Wayne himself commented last week about how he was getting hit with a lot of homework–and I can imagine that a guy who’s been around for a long time, in one place, and who’s accomplished as much at Indy’s 87, isn’t going to have much fun trying to get up to speed in a new, complicated situation. How many decorated vets want to feel suddenly like a rookie again? Not many. Which is to say, Wayne might have had the same response if he’d gone to New Orleans, too, or Denver.

  50. Sorry Reggie, it’s not all sunshine and lollipops when you play for the Pats. But it does explain a lot to me about the Colts mentality and why they are good enough to make the playoffs only to get stomped again and again and again.

  51. Reggie-by now we know that the intensity in NE is not for everyone. Still, you should have taken the high road, and at least given props to the great BB as he did for you. See ya.

  52. Nothing beats waking up after having won the Super Bowl and Framegate.in one year except reading these pathetic posts from Haternation. It’s glorious Sunday in New England.

You may now resume your regularly scheduled whining.

  53. Let me try to explain this for you guys who are a little slow on the uptake:

Wayne did not make the roster, but out of respect for the player and his great career, Belichick did not want to simply say we cut him. So he described this as some kind of mutual decision so Wayne could save face.

  54. I’ve always liked the guy, so I’m surprised he’d say something that is just soooo stupid. Probably the dumbest thing an athlete wants tied to his name…I didn’t like it there because I had to work hard.

  55. Wasn’t fun?
What did he expect, that he would waltz into the room and everyone would praise him for his previous seasons?
Lazy mofo. Retire and keep your mouth shut.

    GO BIG BLUE!!!

  56. Translation: cheating ain’t fun…and Biilicheat is miserable when you won’t cheat along with him & Pretty Boy CryBrady.

  57. Hmmmm……That must be why the Colts have one Super Bowl…..it’s “fun”…..and New England has six….it’s a tough work environment!
    ——————————————————————–
I am not a Colts fan but you are selling their franchise a bit too short. You do realize that the Colts have more than one Super Bowl win right?! Learn your history. Another Super Bowl win and 3 other nfl championships before there was a Super Bowl. Yes that was quite a while ago and when the team was in Baltimore but they are still the same franchise.

  58. I don’t understand all of the negative comments. Everyone wants to enjoy going to work and he didn’t. And while the Pats are the most successful team this century (by not having fun), 11 of the last 15 SB winners have been won by teams that don’t do it the Pats way. Cut Reggie some slack instead of gloating about how he’s not tough enough or whatever.

  59. That must burn. Doesn’t it Colts fans?
The Pats scoop up the Colts hero and then crap him out with the other average dregs.

    A traitor for nothing.

I wonder how the Colts players will feel when they host the Pats underneath their “Second-Place Trouncing” banner flapping proudly overhead.
    Soft.Lying.Rats.

  60. Wayne has made plenty of money. He could retire today, never have to work a day in his life and be fine. Football is hard, he likely wanted to just have one more year and enjoy it. If he wasn’t enjoying it, what else does he have to prove? Let him walk away and be done with it.

    —————————————————-

New England has six Super Bowls? Would you care to list each of the six wins?

  62. Maybe he should go to Philly…Chip likes to serve smoothies and play with remote control cars. You win any Super Bowls but you’ll have fun.

  63. Playing for the Patriots is not for everyone. That’s okay. I have no problem with Reggie Wayne and I can honestly see how playing with Peyton Manning and even Andrew Luck is more fun than playing in the Belichick/Brady offense. Danny Amendola struggled for a season and a half after signing on to be Wes Welker’s replacement. Amendola could have given up even after a year. Of the players from other teams who have adopted well, one is a super freak (Randy Moss), one is Welker, and the other is actually JoJo LaFell.

So now Pats fans are revising history to make them have won the 2 (in the current Bill/Tom era) they lost?

If you do indeed just mean those they have played in then the Colts have been in two in the same era. Not that I expect Patriots fans to have any grasp of football history outside of their own team.

I can’t blame Wayne for this since he’s old enough and doesn’t need the money that it doesn’t make sense to not be enjoying your job.

  65. “Hmmmm……That must be why the Colts have one Super Bowl…..it’s “fun”…..and New England has six….it’s a tough work environment!”

They have 4 asterisks, not six.

    ****

  66. Pats fans are such idiots…how about you ask yourselves …how many times has Reggie cheated to win and how many times “bill” has cheated to win ….do any of u idiot fans think you sound intelligent pointing out you’ve won more games by cheating than well let’s see…..every other team n the league…I’d hate being a pats fan And I certainly wouldn’t open my mouth anymore

  67. I just couldn’t leave this page without commenting on the post by houge34

“Hmmmm……That must be why the Colts have one Super Bowl…..it’s “fun”…..and New England has six”

Where the heck did you come up with these totals? By NFL calculations I believe the Pats have 4 and the Colts have 2 superbowl wins. Just more proof that Pats fans love to believe what they want to believe and adding or subtracting a few numbers (or pounds of pressure in a football) doesn’t amount to anything.

Yes the Pats still have more wins than the Colts. But the Colts haven’t been mired in controversy in matters that have a direct effect on the game. Maybe the “fun” response was much nicer than saying he just really hated the people in the organization and he would rather sit home and enjoy life than spend another minute around the egotistical cheaters. Or maybe he just wanted to look for the bugging devices in the visitor’s locker room?

  68. I think the “fun” is a minor part of Wayne’s reasoning. He played in a single offensive system for FIFTEEN SEASONS before being signed by a team with a completely different one without the benefit of an entire offseason/preseason to assimilate it.

  69. The Colts might be the softest team that ever existed at any time in the history of professional sports.

  70. I wonder where this leak came from.

Wayne does have a reputation for being a hard worker and this well…undermines that reputation.

  71. How did under inflated footballs help Jonas Gray ripping the Colts for a career game? And did that help him win a roster spot?
Sorry, the Colts just plain sucked and you see it on the field.
Practice harder… and cheat the system by suck for Luck.

  72. Haters, keep spouting your nonsense if it makes you feel better. You would kill for your team to have the greatest run of sustained excellence in league history. You would kill to have the GOAT as your QB AND head coach. But you don’t, so you whine and cry and try to blame New England for your team’s failures.

Get a better team, and suddenly non-Deflategate won’t seem so evil.

  73. I think Reggie had too much fun playing for the Colts and being completely satisfied in hanging up their pathetic “Also-ran” banners. Or was he a spy for the Colts to see if he can dig up any dirt that the Pats did bug the visitors’ locker room. On to #5 without Wayne…..

Deflated football jokes are beyond old and I’m not a Patriots fan. It’s becoming like that stupid “haters gonna hate” saying.

    ……………………………………………………………………………..

It’s a one phrase says it all.. or so they think.

The Patriots win and your teams don’t is a better phrase i think.

The Lombardi’s are safe and BB and TB go down as the greatest QB Coach combo of all time.

  75. What a joke, the Patriots were nothing before Brady. Just like in the Green Bay, remove the QB and you have a bunch of dog vomit. Lots of teams work hard, not all teams have future HoF QB’s

  76. Reggie Wayne has been a top receiver in the game for the Colts for many years. He will be a Hall of Famer, and he has class and leadership. He also is a Super bowl Champion. The Colts have been winners and will be for years to come. Perhaps he didn’t feel comfortable or feel he fit in New England. Maybe he didn’t like the Patriot Way. Who knows? Everyone doesn’t like the same flavors-the reason Baskin Robbins has 32 flavors of ice cream. Bottom line, he is Reggie Wayne; he has already accomplished more in his life than most will ever accomplish or dream of in a lifetime. Nothing but respect for him.

  77. If everyone needs to feel better when they tuck themselves in at night by denigrating the Patriots using the figments of their hating imaginations, so be it. It’s foolish and misinformed, but so be it.

Having said that, Wayne did not impress in camp. He looked slow. Belichick decided he didn’t make the cut and made a statement about Wayne’s clear professionalism and a “mutual decision” to part ways after collecting 450K for 2 weeks. Sounds fine to me, and it happens every year. Great guy, great career–thanks for coming out.

The Super Bowl champions do not care what you think about the necessary roster moves they make in order to compete for another title.

They don’t steal your lunch money. They didn’t sneak up on you and give you a hot foot, and they didn’t rig anything–they just beat you. Go figure it out, and quit your whiny unsubstantiated excuses about why you lost.

  78. Veterans don’t like to work in camp. I think Reggie having to learn a new system was more than he expected after all these years with the same team. Patriots camp isn’t any more taxing than any other, calm down fan boys. LOL

  80. I guess what Brandon Lafell was saying the other year about Patriots practices versus Panthers is true huh? Cosign Reggie Wayne………………….

  81. Honestly, if the Packers young receivers struggle or one would get injured, I wouldn’t mind signing Wayne to a one year veterans minimum deal. The Packers are pretty much an ideal situation for him and they might have signed him after Jordy went down had he not already been in NE.

Well, he was cut, that is a fact. Players who ask to be released/cut by teams are not always cut. Wayne was released/cut.

Impossible to know exactly what went down but I would not be surprised if Belichick decided it was not going to be a fit and worked out the “mutual decision” with Wayne out of respect.

    ———————————————————-

    Fair and square???

Like piping in crowd noise so the opposing offense can’t call their signals?

Like laying down a turd of a season to get to draft a once-in-a-generation QB, “Suck for Luck”?

Like kicking a franchise-saving HOF quarterback to the curb without so much as a “thanks for the memories, Peyton”?

Like being the main drive behind trying to frame an opponent you couldn’t beat on the field, and lying about all of it?

THAT kind of “fair and square”?????

Reggie Wayne saying the Patriots are “too tough” and “no fun”, and complaining that he once again felt “like a rookie”, is all the proof that the Colts are a soft team, a team that can’t respond to adversity by preparing for it.

No wonder the Colts raise “Conference Champion Finalist” banners, while New England is about to raise the 4th Super Bowl Champions banner in the Brady/Belichick era.

At least Chad Johnson managed to hang on for a few months before admitting this was a tough offense to learn. 😉

    ——

I hear people say this all the time, “Pats were nothing before Brady and Belichick.” Yeah!!! What is your point. If anything you should respect the fact Brady came from the 6th round, unlike these can’t miss stars falling into crap teams lap (Elway, Manning, Luck)

  87. I suppose Bill’s a bit on edge this year…

First year in many they’ll be forced to play with inflated balls.

Brady not quite as sharp in practice; a few more passes being dropped; a couple more balls on the ground.

Yeah, I can imagine Bill’s rough to be around as he tries to figure out a different plot to regain an edge.

  88. It’s been known that the Patriots is a blue collar team. It’s a working class team. Do your job. Everything is earned. Your name means nothing.
Wayne said that the Patriots playbook is nothing that he’s seen before. There’s nothing to compare to it plus BB runs a tight ship. He’s just not cut out to be a Patriot.
Brady grooms his receivers for years. They don’t come to him already an elite player. Does Brady have an elite player? Gronk is an elite but Brady was hard on him while Brady was trying to shape him to become what he is now. It’s a wonder that Brady won 4 SBs with what BB had been supplying him for receivers.
No grudge against Wayne. It’s just a wrong fit. He already earned a special status.Maybe it’s just his old bones talking. Maybe it’s time for his old bones to kick back and have fun.

  89. I’m sure it was an awkward situation for Reggie so soon after Deflate Gate. And I really doubt that the Patriots players treated him just like one the guys. And for Reggie to be in that locker room when the judges ruling overturned Tom Shady’s suspension.
I’m sure it wasn’t Fun when you’re in the Liars Den!

  90. Reading these comments. You can tell the Pats fans from the Patriots haters. My question is. Why cant you have fun at your job? Many people enjoy their jobs and have fun doing their jobs. This isnt a insult to the Patriots or Wayne’s lack of desire to play football. Wayne felt uncomfortable playing with this team and that is the bottom line. Everyone takes it personal when someone doesn’t agree with their team or doesn’t want to play for their team. So they take it as a personal attack and make a comment to insult a player or a team. Some people just don’t get it.

  91. Pats fans still running their mouths about a silly AFC finalist banner?

Good thing the Pats don’t hang silly banners that make them look bad. Like say….oh I don’t know….a 16-0 banner for a season where they lost the SB to a 10-6 team.

I hope they don’t ever visit Giant stadium either, they’ll see the Giants SB banner from 2011 when the Giants went 9-7. I mean….a 9-7 SB winner? Does that really count? Sure, they beat the Pats, but 9-7?

  92. He does not have to play football anymore and take a chance at getting a serious injury and if it is not fun anymore go do something else like lay on a beach. Most of you fools talking crap about him have to go to your crappy jobs.

  93. Reading these comments. You can tell the Pats fans from the Patriots haters. My question is. Why cant you have fun at your job? Many people enjoy their jobs and have fun doing their jobs. 94.

Or maybe he just isn’t comfortable Cheating?

Belichick told Wayne the new concussion faking classes were about to start. Wayne laughed at first but then realized Belichick was serious.

Now the Patriots are getting blamed for other teams cheating scandals?

That was the Giants. The Giants are the team who got caught repeatedly faking injuries.

Just like it was Denver is the only team in the league to be fined draft picks for cheating in Superbowls. Also the only team to have been caught filming another teams practice.

Try and keep up, just because you hate the Patriots doesn’t mean you can project other teams cheating onto them.

  96. In other news, some guy who used to play for the Colts and is on their radio booth reports Wayne couldn’t handle all of the cheating in NE and asked to leave before he went to prison.

There is also reports coming from a former Auburn player whose the friends with the father of a player from Alabama. He says that playing for Alabama is like playing football in hell itself and he hates everything about the school.

Unless some former Patriots player turned broadcaster confirms it, I’m not only not believing it, I’m going to assume it is patently false. And I’m not a fan of either the Colts or the Patriots.

  97. The actual story is that he could not grasp the playbook in such a short period of time. This is what he meant when he said its not fun. And for all you haters, you’ll be crying again after the season.

Name a Pat with better career receiving numbers…..I’ll be waiting…

    No current Patriots but…Randy Moss.

More receiving yards, almost twice as many TDs, and a slam dunk as a first ballot HOFer.

Pats fans have great respect for Wayne even though he did not work out. Wayne might not be a first ballot HOFer, but he will get there eventually.

Most of the posts on this thread are from trolls dumping on the Pats with the same old tired lies.

  99. Sorry, it was the Jets not the Giants who got fined for faking injuries.

The Giants were accused and there is really good evidence of it happening but no punishments were levied.

Let me try to explain this for you guys who are a little slow on the uptake:

Wayne did not make the roster, but out of respect for the player and his great career, Belichick did not want to simply say we cut him. So he described this as some kind of mutual decision so Wayne could save face.
    ———————————————————————
Wayne asked to be released. Do you have information to verify that he was in fact cut or are you just spouting Pats fan nonsense?
    ====================================
Did you watch Wayne in action during the preseason? He can’t play anymore. It’s obvious he wasn;t making the team. What, you think he just decided to ask for his release ‘cuz it was “no fun”. Does that sound remotely plausible?

  101. He was going to be 5-6 on the depth chart, plain and simple. Both sides agreed it was not worth it. He’s better off on a team mentoring a young WR that lacks depth at receiver. Not a contender like he wants.

  102. Its funny to read comments stating because the Pats work so hard that’s why they win the Lombardi trophy while at the same time ignoring this franchise has Spygate (3 Superbowls) on its doorstep. As well as many other questionable tactics used like the formations used against Baltimore that are now illegal. Turning off scoreboard displaying correct score against Baltimore. Im not even going into Deflategate.

I used to be a Pats fan years ago so Ima say this Jim Plunkett is greater that Tom Brady. Yeah I said it.

  103. To the guy who claimed Randy Moss was an example of a Pat with more receiving yards than Wayne….Moss was only a Pat for a few years, the majority of his career he was not.

He’s also a guy who ADMITTED to taking plays off and not giving his all all the time. He got by on sheer physical ability most of the time.

Using him as an example of a “Pat” who had more receiving yards than Wayne lol?

How about a Pat who spent his entire career (or at least more than a few years in a Pats uniform)?

  104. I feel bad for so many Pat fans who have a miserable lot in life. There are actually people in this world who like their job and find it fun. I would hope most of you would discuss your error with your kids and encourage them to pursue a career they’d enjoy and not make the same mistake you did.
This approach that it’s not supposed to be fun, it’s work, is a tough way to spend 1/3 of your day.
Wayne has more money then his family will ever need. He has had an accomplished career. $450k is not going to change his life at all. So why should he play if it’s not fun? I’m sure Bellichek would quit tomorrow if he found the job to no longer be fun. He doesn’t do the job for the money. His lifestyle would not change if he quit tomorrow. Obviously fun is what keeps him coming back.
Tons of players retire because the game is not fun anymore. But you have to rip Wayne because he discovered being in NE was not what he wants at this stage of his life/career.

  105. No duhhhhh…it’s obvious that Wayne refused to have “The Patriot Way” mind altering chip inserted into his brain from Darth Checky and Emperor Kraft. The chip that turned Randy Moss, Corey Dillon and others into cheating, Patzombie like football playing robots like Brady.

To the guy who claimed Randy Moss was an example of a Pat with more receiving yards than Wayne….Moss was only a Pat for a few years, the majority of his career he was not….

Yes, I am aware of that fact. But the Colts fan who started that thread did not state it had to be a Pats player who spent his entire career on the Patriots.

My comment was also not at all intended to disparage Reggie Wayne who has had a great career and who I expect to be in the HOF in the next six or seven years.

The fact that the Pats have never had their own home-grown HOF WR during the Belichick/Brady era simply puts an exclamation point on the fact that Tom Brady is the Greatest QB of All-Time. With essentially a revolving door of WRs he has put up outstanding career regular season numbers, and staggering playoff numbers, to go along with his unparalleled leadership in nine AFC Championship games and six Super Bowl appearances, four Super Bowl wins (and counting) and three Super Bowl MVPs.

Yes, we Pats fans can live without any HOF WRs who have spent their entire career on the team when we have the Greatest QB of All-Time, who has spent his career with the team, still behind center.

  107. Every year it seems like the Patriots have to proof they can win without cheating. That is a challenging environment. That is especially true if you are one of the fall guys fired for knowing the truth.

  108. Bandwagon Pats fans are hilarious. As if Reggie Wayne knows nothing about winning. Dude has been to the playoffs 12 times, won a pair of AFC Titles and a Super Bowl.

  109. The Pats won one Super Bowl in 10 years and their fans act like they have won 5 (they were lucky Lynch didn’t run it in or it would be 0 in 10 years.)

  110. ok boys your DIVA has just arrived ..o crap coach just cut my ass…man actually wanted me to work for my million dollar paycheck

  111. I like how Pats fans constantly whine and moan about how the media treats their team but they run with it and attack a stand up guy like Wayne because one of their broadcasters said Wayne said he quit “because it wasn’t fun and was too hard”.

I mean, who needs context and actual quotes right? Sure BB himself praised Wayne, saying something along the lines of he “exemplifies everything a professional should be” but part of being a Patriot fan is being obnoxious and making personal attacks, so better to attack a guy like Wayne.

Freaking hypocrites. I can’t wait until the next time they get accused of cheating (matter of time) and they all act butthurt about what people say about their team and players again like they do every single time it happens.

  112. Reggie did what he thought was right for Reggie. He was guaranteed 450k and after becoming very familiar with the Colts offense and facilities for so many years, it just didn’t feel right.

  113. Reggie has trained and played harder than any Patriot over the last 14 years. What a bunch of infantile punks these pile-on people are.

But the real kicker is Florio. Taking an out-of-context rumor and skewing it for the Boston fans just shows what a disgusting east-coast bias there in in reporting another innumerable time. Here is what Real Football Talk would say: “Mike Florio takes a word or two and fabricates a picture that Reggie is soft – a potshot to pander to the soylent green eaters of New England.”

What a crock of crap. I told myself to kill this link, but boredom got the best of me. But now that I’ve made the mistake of coming back, I wont make it again. You lemmings believe what you want; I’m sure there’s more coming when Florio is done administering T*mmy Brady and Bill Belicheat…

Reggie simply made a choice that the Pats weren’t his cup of tea. Like many others. Welker, Moss, any RB, Vinatieri…

To put it in perspective, if the Patriots were your standard Boston company, your union would have filed enough grievances over player treatment via the “Patriot Way” that all the reporters in the northeast would have caused town to burn the place down. Keep cheering the Patriot Way, local #215, the Pats are on the front lines of driving unions into irrelevance. Just ask the poor saps they canned for doing Brady’s dirty work…

Saddest organization in all of sports…

  114. Should have listened to Vrabel on Hard Knocks.

“This isnt work. What your dad did was work. What your grandfather did was work. This isnt work at all”

  115. The patriots are about cheating to win. for which they did and probably still do. Heck football can be fun and you can win. at this stage in his career he has the option to say release me

  116. Love the Pats fans telling Reggie Wayne that’s why THEY have Super Bowl Rings and banners. YOU don’t have anything. Your TEAM has tainted championships. And Reggie Wayne has an untainted Super Bowl ring and banner of his own, and a lot more money than you for it.
