Ex-Panther Will Witherspoon also suspected Patriots of cheating

Getty Images

Add Will Witherspoon to the list of people who think the Patriots cheated before their Super Bowl win over the Panthers.

Although it hadn’t received as much attention as some of the other allegations against the Patriots, there seems to be a feeling among many in Carolina that New England taped the Panthers’ practices before Super Bowl XXXVIII. Witherspoon said in an interview on WFNZ 610 The Fan that he and his teammates suspected the Patriots of spying on them.

“It does make you wonder,” Witherspoon said. “We all sat there and said, ‘How do they know what we’re doing? This is ridiculous.’ . . . It can’t be possible. There’s no way they knew this was coming. But they did.”

But Witherspoon’s specific accusations — that the Patriots seemed like they knew what the Panthers were going to do — could just as easily be the result of good scouting and film study as cheating. Absent any actual evidence that the Patriots spied on the Panthers, it’s unfair to assume they spied just because their game plan against the Panthers was successful.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, they’ve now been busted by the NFL twice, in Spygate and in Deflategate. And that means every allegation of cheating will be given credence, whether there’s any evidence to go along with that allegation or not.

  1. It’s only Pats fans who think they have a dynasty. Belicheat hires 3 men to come up with ways to cheat so they cheat 100 ways every week to beat the 2 win Jags and brag. The players don’t have a choice. They’re all tarnished. You guys keep forgetting what you’re not getting caught at. Belicheat needed to cheat because he had the worst QB and roster ever.

    I celebrate real successful franchises. Not fake ones. I don’t hate untarnished real winners.

    Packers 13
    Bears 9
    Giants 8
    Steelers 6
    Niners 5
    Cowboys 5
    There’s a bunch with 4, 3, 2, and 1 without cheating.

    **** puts the Pats at -4. That’s what the Pats fans call the greatest dynasty ever when every other NFL team has a classier tesm to root for. They won 0 without the greatest cheating coach in NFL history.

  2. The beauty of this for Pats fans is that they can just cry sour grapes. Whether the Pats cheat is the new global warming. Show me the evidence DERRRRR; I’ll bet my last bucket of CHOWDAH that Brady’s innocent DERRRR

  3. Sounds more like they are all a bunch of sore losers. It’s one thing to make accusations, it would be a lot more believable if they had any proof.

  4. “Unfortunately for the Patriots, they’ve now been busted by the NFL twice, in Spygate and in Deflategate. ”

    That statement is incorrect. There is no evidence in Deflategate – this is an NFL fabrication and a lesson in basic science, the Ideal Gas Law.

  5. Goodell ordered tapes and notes from the Patriots destroyed, eliminating “a library of scouting material.”

    — Goodell told Sen. Arlen Spector that the Patriots’ tapes destroyed by NFL employees went back to the 2006 season, but then confessed that the Patriots began taping in 2000 and that the destroyed notes, on mostly AFC East rivals, went back to 2002.

    — Numerous allegations were sent to the he NFL’s competition committee members, but none of those were investigated.

    — A former Patriots assistant coach said the “system of covert videotaping” and ” a secret library” had gotten “out of control.”

    — The Patriots had an employee, Ernie Adams, whose job it was to spend all week decoding signals on spreadsheets obtained by a scout at Patriots’ future opponents’ games.

    — Patriots videographers were told to put tape over their team logos and say they were from Patriots TV or Kraft Productions when questioned by opposing team’s security. In November 2006, the Senate investigation of Spygate said Patriots staff member Matt Estrella said he was “taping panoramic shots of the stadium.”

    — The Patriots would sign players recently cut by upcoming opponents and “pay them only to help decipher signals.”

    — The Patriots would send low-level employees into the visiting locker room to steal the play sheet, consisting of the first 20 scripted offensive calls, or into the visiting team hotel to look for playbooks and scouting reports.

    — When at home, the Patriots would scramble and jam the coach-to-quarterback radio line of their opponents, and it happened so often that when a league official was told to sit in the coaches’ box and wait for it to happen, it did, as expected, on a big third-down play.

    — The Patriots’ tactics helped them against lesser teams like the Dolphins and Bills, who never changed their signals throughout the season.

    Patriots legacy!!!!

  6. Patriots totally cheated and kicked the ball off out of bounds with 2 mins left and gave themselves the ball at the 40

    and Vinatieri who never hits clutch kicks cheated

  7. “[The Patriots have] now been busted by the NFL twice, in Spygate and in Deflategate…”

    …and one of those two times, there’s evidence that they were actually guilty!

  8. Let’s say the Patriots knew what they were doing.

    After they lost the SB, they lost to the Seahawks in 05. They collapsed in 08 after going 12-4.

    So what’s the reason for losing to Seattle and then collapsing in 08? Was it because of the Patriots as well?

  9. How did the Pats know Seattle might run that slant pass play? Seattle has run that play before. Malcolm Butler got beat in practice, didn’t in the game
    Deal with it Carolina, Philly, St. Louis.

  10. .

    “It does make you wonder,” Witherspoon said. “We all sat there and said, ‘How do they know what we’re doing? This is ridiculous.’ . . . It can’t be possible. There’s no way they knew this was coming. But they did. ”

    Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson said the same exact words following their Super Bowl loss.
    .

  11. Tom, I can’t wait to see the look on Roger’s face when he has to hand you the Superbowl 50 Lombardi trophy. The next day will be even sweeter at the MVP trophy presentation. The colossal cluster will all be worth that.

  12. Considering just how well prepared John Fox had Denver for their last SuperBowl appearance. The loins share of blame likely was on the Panthers stafff.

  13. This reminds me of when an iconic moment in sports happens, and 10 years later, every person who talks about that moment, also just so happened to be in the stands that night. I’ll use an example that was recently celebrated, Cal Ripken’s consecutive game streak. There were 6 million people in the stands that night…

    This is the same thing with thew Patriots. All of a sudden everyone who ever got beat by them, all of a sudden needs to tell us they suspected the Patriots cheated. Its sad that the NFL is so pathetic that they have stooped to the level of bringing up Spygate again, just to distract from the fact that they suck at everything that they do

  14. If all these accusations are true take the Super wins away from Patriot Organization. Oh ya they don’t do it because it’s all BS from other owners and players who lost to Pat’s. Seriously take them if you have any proof.

  15. Why didnt the Jets win when they were caught taping the Pats in foxboro during the 2006 playoffs if this was such a big advantage?

  16. “Absent any actual evidence that the Patriots spied on the Panthers, it’s unfair to assume they spied just because their game plan against the Panthers was successful.”

    Seriously? They admit to having cheated with taping other teams and are caught with tapes as far back as 2000, yet they wouldn’t do it in one of the biggest games in their franchise’s history after it helped get them there? That makes zero logical sense. Pretty sure that they’re well passed having the benefit of the doubt here.

  17. XLIX what a great game.

    I’m getting quite excited to see the new banner on Thursday.

    I can’t wait until someday down the road maybe the Seahawks will start to question how Butler knew what play they were going to run. Let’s discount film preparation and actually studying and getting to know your opponent because it’s easier to just say they cheated *sniffle* *sniffle*.

  18. I know that there is no way the Giants could have ended the Perfect season were it not for them taping practices and knowing that if Eli was to pretend he was about to be sacked, and then throw it to a guy who hardly makes any catches, and then place that ball with an amazing accuracy he’s never shown before, right against the helmet, Rodney Harrison wouldn’t be able to stop that helmet catch or jar the ball loose.

    Right.

    See, when we lose, it’s because we lost and were outplayed, out coached, didn’t put in as much effort in, missed a scoring opportunity, blew a coverage etc.

    The Pats know that they should have never been in the position that a last minute score could cost them a game and because they failed to score enough points, a last minute drive could (and did) end two Superbowls they could have won.

    Other teams, owners, fans, could learn a valuable lesson. Let your play, whether in a win or a loss, do your talking for you.

  19. All of this just makes the Giants Super Bowl wins and the 18-1 season taste sooooo much sweeter.

    Feels so good to be a fan of one of the most historic and classiest organizations in sports. Go Big Blue!!

  20. Considering Carolina went 7-9 the next season and hasn’t been back to a Super Bowl since, apparently other opponents have figured out their plays, too.

  21. Only Pats fans don’t think they’re cheaters. And you could have signed confessions and they wouldn’t make any difference. They’re wearing big, thick fan goggles.

  22. Probably would be easier to list the people who don’t believe the Patriots have cheated ever. Spoiler Alert… 90% of them live in Boston!

    Now can we PLEASE give up on the Patriots cheating stories and get back to the season at hand!

  23. This is getting ridiculous. Every team who has lost to the Patriots in the Belichick era wants to think it’s because of unsubstantiated cheating. If the Patriots had used a zoom lens to tape coaches signals from an “authorized” location, instead of from the sidelines, there would have been no “Spygate,” because it isn’t against the rules to tape signals. That’s the extent of proven “cheating” by the Patriots. Still, players have to make plays, and the Patriots players have done that more consistently than other teams for the past 15 years. If it makes it more palatable to think your team lost due to cheating, instead of getting outplayed, then you go ahead and believe that. You don’t hear Giants fans bitching!

  24. —I can’t wait until someday down the road maybe the Seahawks will start to question how Butler knew what play they were going to run. Let’s discount film preparation and actually studying and getting to know your opponent because it’s easier to just say they cheated *sniffle* *sniffle*.—

    Its more likely that he just got lucky, right place right time situation. Good play on his part

  25. “How do they know what we’re doing?” We’re the Panthers. We don’t know what we’re doing.

  26. lets try to be real here, the one turning point in the game was after a score the Panthers kicked off and it went out of bounds giving the Patriots and Brady great field position.
    I assume the Panthers believe there was something wrong with the ball?

    Just amazing what a loser will rationalize, what is even more amazing is how others will believe it.

  29. “Absent any actual evidence that the Patriots spied on the Panthers, it’s unfair to assume they spied just because their game plan against the Panthers was successful.”

    Stop with this kind of LAME premise. The reason there is no actual evidence — is because the evidence was irrevocably DESTROYED. All the documents were collected and summarily shredded. All the videotapes were destroyed. And nothing was logged or preserved in any way. They buried the evidence — kind of like how Brady, Kraft and the Patriots keep clinging to how there is no direct evidence of Brady’s cheating in Deflategate — where, AGAIN, guess WHO destroyed the direct evidence?

    You can’t destroy all of there relevant telling evidence — and then claim, hey I’m innocent – you have no proof.

  30. The trouble here is not that you can’t trust the patriots. It’s that you can’t trust the league. If the league was trustworthy they would investigate these things fully and issue a fair and honest finding. No one believes the league is capable of this so the allegations against the Patriots will never go away.

  31. More sour grapes!!! What was the score at the end of the first half 14-10? Then it was a 19-18 shoot out in the 4th quarter. So yeah I am sure the Patriots taped the Panthers practices!! Heck they didn’t even play the Panthers that year.

    Noticed how all these guys who are speaking have no jobs now in the NFL?? That must be why they don’t have a job, the Patriots screwed them out of one. It is a joke really!! How well did Mike Martz do after losing that Superbowl? So well he is sitting on his couch on Sundays!! As for Hurley? Where is he? Oh yeah, sitting behind a microphone with a radio show that no one knows about! Just hilarious

  32. This is ridiculous, if the report is even partially true, there should be a deep investigation to reach the bottom, if is just speculation and lies, then Kraft should sue ESPN. I think that this will get ugly, either for the NFL or for the Patriots, but no way both organizations end up looking good after this.

  33. All these teams that lost were so convinced that the Pats were taping their signals, for years, that they never changed their signals. I find that hard to believe but if these teams are that stupid, they probably should have lost anyways. When I played baseball, there was a team in our league that we thought were stealing our signs, we changed them. We actually used the same signals but switched them all around. It worked, they were all messed up. Of course, we were kids and I would never expect these pro teams to think of such a genius scheme( eyes rolling)

    How perfect, a bunch of butthurt ex players whining to a bunch of butthurt fans of losing teams. Maybe in ten years you can all get together for a reunion and hold and console each other. #youbringthetissues

    Destroyed by the league. Not by NE.

    If you have a problem, you have a problem with the league.

  35. Every single franchise would sell the farm to get Belichick as their head coach and all the fans that complain about him now, would be crazy excited to have him coach their team. People always want to knock down the one’s at the top. Fact is, Brady and Belichick are the greatest ever at their jobs…that could possibly explain why they win a lot.

  36. OK LETS LOOK AT HE ACTUAL SUPER BOWL
    SCORE: Patriots 32 – Panthers 29….3 point win
    Penalties: Patriots- 8 for 60 yards, Panthers – 12 for 73 yards
    Third down conversions: Patriots 2 for 8, Panthers 2 for 8
    Turnovers: Patriots 1, Panthers 1
    First Downs: Patriots 29, Panthers 17
    Total yards: Patriots 481, Panthers 387 – 94 yards difference
    Field Goals: Patriots 1 of 3, Panthers 1 of 1
    Punting: Patriots 34 yard average, Panthers 44 yard average
    Now where did the cheating come into play that allowed the Patriots to win?
    If they knew what the Panthers were doing, why does it come down to a margin of victory of only 3 points????
    1st Quarter: the score was 0-0
    2nd Quarter: The score was 14 to 10 Patriots
    3rd Quarter: 14 to 10 Patriots ( neither team scored in 3rd )
    4th Quarter: the Patriots score 18 point and the Panther score 19
    So… I ask if the Patriots knew what the Panthers were doing can anyone explain why they allowed the Panthers to score 3 TIMES IN THE FOURTH QUARTER TO MAKE THIS A CLOSE GAME?????
    Come on people…….Look at the facts.

  37. For those of you so fond of these conspiracy theories surrounding the Patriots, I give a bit of Mafia wisdom.

    “Three people can keep a secret as long as two of them are dead.”

  38. I love all these people coming out of the woodwork now to say “I always suspected the Patriots were cheaters”. Where were all of you when it was supposedly going on? It’s easy to jump on the hate bandwagon and say it now. Where is the proof???

  39. Taping opposing coaches hand signals from the wrong area….guilty as charged, owned up to it and accepted full responsibility. Taking air out of balls after being approved by game officials….I have not seen ANY evidence of this. The air missing from the BOTH the Patriots ball AND THE COLTS balls is easily explained in an 8th grade science class. It is called the Boyle’s Law in 1662. Basically it says as the temperature drops the pressure inside of inflated objects decreases. Patriots Haters should go to school and learn something instead of listening to NFL puppets that work within ESPN and SI.

    I’ve been complaining for a decade. It’s as real as it gets. Read the first comment. The Giants/Steelers are the real model franchises of the last 15 years. They each went to 3 SBs and won 2. The Pats just cheated the entire time. Nobody is complaining about the Steelers or Giants cheating. That’s the difference between classy organizations and the Pats. The Pats are the biggest embarrassment to the NFL. If I was a Pats fan then I’d write Kraft a letter to clean house, but Kraft is an idiot that can’t replace the cheating coach with a coach that could win honestly at the Giants/Steelers Pace. That’s not possible without the cheating. I’d want to know exactly how good or bad the team is without cheating 100 ways every week. My guess is under 4 wins per season…

  41. Tee hee. 🙂 I love reading all these inferior fans of inferior teams clucking their excuses for why their team can’t beat the World Champions 🙂

  42. Panthers had John Fox as coach. The guy is the most predictable coach in the league. Watch the Bears this year. Run on 1st down, run on second down, throw a curl pass on third. Holy cow, I must be cheating too because I know what they were going to do.

    Marty Hurney is a complete hack, btw. Dude stinks on the radio. As a GM, he completely handicapped the Panthers by giving 2 RB’s huge money contracts.

  43. The Patriots seem to get a favorable draw every season. I’d like to know how Belichick organizes that. Something is happening, (I don’t know how), but it happens every single year. It’s like Belichick sets his own schedule.
    Don’t be surprised if something shady is happening. Favorable draws every year defies probability. I’d love someone in the NFL to check this.

  44. to 3 SBs and won 2. The Pats just cheated the entire time. Nobody is complaining about the Steelers or Giants cheating

    Tyree cheated, he used stickum on that catch. 🙁 Therefore as an intelligent football fan I can never acknowledge them as champs of 2007. *

    The Pats finished that year undefeated as far as I’m concerned. Greatest team in this history of sports. 🙂

    As for the Steelers not cheating lets ask Dr Richard Rydze and Alvin Roy about that. 🙂

  45. It is a real shame that the egotistical Belichick cheated and tarnished the reputations of real hardworking athletes. If i were a former patriot I will be pretty disappointed in my coach to allow everyone’s hard work and dedication come into question. The patriots
    would have won enough by playing straight up to be considered a great coach. If Andy Reid wasn’t such a politically correct coach this would have come up way sooner . #stripthepats #frauds

  46. *Belichick and *Kraft will some day join the Black Sox in the lore of infamous sports cheats.

  47. Funny how a guy whose team was riddled with steroid users (3 suspended by the league, more implicated but never proven users) thinks he can talk about other teams cheating.

    The Panthers cheated. Multiple suspended steroid users that season.

    Oh wait, that’s right they weren’t the Pats so nobody cares or considers it cheating.

    ————————————
    Not necessarily even guilty in “spygate” – it boiled down to BB’s arguable reading of the original meaning and wording that the rule change as being intended to stop coaches reviewing and using such film DURING THE GAME IN WHICH THE TAPING WAS TAKING PLACE, but the NFL retrospectively tightened/mis-interpreted (or re-interpreted) the rule. I used to think BB was wrong/guilty in spygate, but that was when I believed the NFL without question and when I thought ALL taping across the league had stopped in 2007 – now I know it is still perfectly legal and commonplace but was just banned from within the areas where the coaches are (i.e. so that they can’t get at the tape during the game, like BB said all along). So maybe BB was right.

  49. Belichick is in your minds

    This is hilarious

    And unless you missed it, Goodell and the NFL are the ones who got busted this time

    The Judge made a point to have them admit in open court they had no evidence against Brady

  50. The Pats came back from 20 behind to the Darlings of the NFL, Peyton and the Colts. The idiots complain about everything like Bugs in the Visitors Locker room. If this spy stuff was true, don’t you think the Colts would have complained to the NFL, like the deflated balls?

    According to me, everything counts. Give them lifetime bans. No second chances. There’s a difference between Rice admitting something 30 years later just like it will be when the Pats talk. unfortunately, we can’t catch you in the moment. In terms of legacy, they all count except holding penalties they pay the penalty on the field the next play.

    I don’t live in glass house. I know my team has cheated. I’ve written to them before even for the smallest things like whiny players calling out players and coaches to the media like Strahan, Tiki, Shockey, and Plaxico. If I get pissed about that crap then I get pissed about the cheating. I don’t support it or say the players on other teams are calling their coaches so it’s okay. I think my players, coaches, and GM should get banned for life for cheating. If Eli got 4-game suspension tomorrow for PEDs then I wouldn’t care at all. I think it should be more. I can never own a team with the union there blocking me. There’s a difference between having a player cheat sometimes and Belicheat hiring 3 people to come up with 100 ways to cheat every week. One way is rare, and the other way is habitual. However, the Pats are so bad that they can’t beat any team straight up without cheating. That’s why Pats fans want the other 31 teams to cheat rather than the Pats stopping. Only a few will cross that line of becoming habitual cheaters.

  55. This is too funny.

    Everyone is positive the Patriots cheated, no one has an iota of proof, some in here tell us that “just you wait – former players or employees will spill the beans!”.

    It’s been 15 years since Belichick got hired, and countless players and employees having come and gone through the Patriots system. If just one of them has the goods on the Patriots and can prove an allegation of cheating, what the heck are they waiting for? All it would take is a 15 second call to TMZ or ESPN or Geraldo Rivera.

  56. Cheaters gonna cheat. Brady suspension lifted for now as we wait appeal does not prove innocence fools.. Spygate happened so as much as the Brady boys want to cry innocent please explain Spygste and how Pats, Brady and Belicheats didn’t cheat there? Got caught facts are facts even if Deflatgate fizzles still Spygate which you got nailed and NFL tried covering your asses destroying the tapes as Kraft was buddy buddy with Roger but it didn’t work …Once a cheating, low class, scum franchise always one !!

  57. The power of suggestion is an amazing thing. No proof of anything, only allegations and some people making a few guesses. Next thing you know, half the country is completely convinced there is a mountain of evidence that proves the Patriots have been cheating.

    I’m not a Patriots fan by any means. I am a football fan, however. These fake scandals and other nonsense are ruining the sport. If people hate football so much that they want to ruin the game, quit following the sport.

    I will never acknowledge that as a legit loss. 2007 Pats…the GREATEST team in sports history. And legitimately undefeated. 🙂

  59. I think with today’s story where the NFL finally admitted what all of us intelligent fans already knew: that the deflategate case is a witch hunt and a “makeup call” for whiny owners from spygate….

    …they may have inadvertently sunk their appeal 🙂 Think about it.

So cheating once vs. 100 is what you want. Or cheating 10 ways vs. 100. I don’t knwo exactly how much leeway Pats fans think is acceptable. Of course I think Tyree should get a lifetime ban. He’s off my team. We had PED guys that aren’t. They should be gone and banished too. Belicheat is still there as the coach…

  62. “…where there’s smoke, there’s usually a fire…”

    Agreed.

    Now will you agree that the fire could merely be a bunch of disgruntled ex-players, current players and owners seeing a chance to discredit their losses against the Patriots by piling on with further baseless accusations?

    Has one fact been released yet? “Facts” about what clearly biased people “think” happened don’t count.

  63. The Pats cheat 100 ways in every game.

    Well I happen to think it’s interesting and very telling that out of all the former Patriot players and employees, not one has come forward- no doubt resisting a multi million dollar payday- to admit on the record that the New England Patriots are or were cheats.

    Not one.

    Every cheat in sports has a whistleblower. Armstrong’s masseuse. The U.S. track coach for Balco. Ben Johnson’s coach. Steve Courson for the Steelers use of illegal PEDs 40 years ago. The academic officer at UNC. A-Rod had one too. And yet……the supposedly cheating Patriots…not one. I wonder why? 🙂

    #IKnowWhy

  64. And I don’t consider them the greatest team in history. I don’t even think they’re a good team straight up no cheating, but you can.

    Even the ’86 Giants were a better team than the Pats. All of the pre-salary cap era teams are a million times better then the Pats. And the Giants only won once. So all of those teams that won multiple Super Bowls are better on offense, defense, and special teams. You have the Packers, Steelers, Niners, and Cowboys winning 3-5 Super Bowls in a decade had better teams than the Pats. Obviously, some cheated and some did not. Belicheat is so bad as the GM that he to cheat. His roster is crap. His QB is crap.

  65. All I read in the above was “blah blah blah, we got beat so they must be cheating”

    Sour grapes much?

    Look with all the former players, couches, scouts, practice team members etc etc that have come and gone from the Patriots over the past 15 years you would think, maybe just maybe one of them would have walked away with proof of cheating, and then cashed in on that proof with book deals by now.

    Bunch to cry babies, being fueled by an NFL executive ex-jets employee surrounded by more ex-jets employees. I see a pattern of misinformation and lies from that group. I won’t believe anything they or their patsies ESPN have to say as long as Goodell is the commissioner.

  66. @diehardgiantsfan:

    You’re too easy:

    Giants have been faking injuries to cheat other teams and the game since the AFL-NFL merger.
    Frauds

    Plus, your SB’s with Parcells are ALL 100% tainted because Bill Belichick was part of those teams and he was cheating then too,

    Just ask all the haters who need to believe NE cheated it’s way to its run of success.
    Heck, just ask yourself!

    **** New York Giants****

    Cheating to win, ALWAYS

    Because the 3 people that create still work with Belicheat. I’m sure Belicheat is smart enough to create a system where nobody gets caught without these 4 people talking. I’m sure his system ensures none of them ever get linked to anything physically through an investigation, emails, texts, etc. Just like with deflate gate. It’ll come eventually from the Pats. In the meantime, it’ll come out from the other 31 teams.

  68. where, AGAIN, guess WHO destroyed the direct evidence?
    ******************
    spygate:Goodell destroyed tapes after playing them in front of media

    deflategate: Troy vincent decides to refill the balls instead of using backups.

    In both instances it was the NFL who destroyed the evidence…

  69. Being caught after the fact means squat. Whether they cheated or not, history still says they won those superbowls and the players all still have rings. You need to be caught in the act otherwise it’s all speculation and he said she said. There are over 1000 plays in each playbook. So the Pats knew every single once every time? If you suspected that the pats knew what you were running, try calling audibles or changing up your plays a bit.. This was like a decade ago. Let it be.

    Except that doesn’t account for the numerous former Patriot employees and players- many of whom left the team on far less than amicable terms. They would be too happy to sing about those cheatin’ Patriots. Why wouldn’t they? They have no loyalty to the organization. Probably paid a ton of money too to do so. And don’t think for a second that they get asked. Lots of times.

    And yet…not a peep.

    Go figure. 🙂

  71. Can’t wait until Bellichick writes a book about owning the NFL years after the fact. Obviously cheated, but hey. It can’t be that big a deal if the records show they won superbowls and are able to keep all their rings. If you don’t catch them in the act, then it doesn’t matter. What’s done is done. LOL at panthers coming out now. That was a decade ago. Let it go

  72. This is all just ridiculous..
    NE knew what Carolina was doing but couldn’t put up a single point in the 1st or 3rd quarters??? What they lost their notes in those quarters?
    They knew Philly’s defensive signals, so NE went 1/5 in third down conversions?
    They taped the Rams walk through and knew everything that was coming but Brady went 16/27 for 145 yds and ONE stinking TD?
    If they were cheating then they must be the worst cheaters in the history of…history.
    What an insult to everyone’s intelligence. Give me a break.

    Coughlin and Eli of all people somehow managed to out cheat them but Caroll and the legion of boom couldn’t? Hysterical

    —-
    I won’t get into comparing teams from different eras of the sport as quite frankly there are very few things that are more pointless than that but the fact is this. The Patriots have a 15 years and counting run in an era where NO team is supposed to do what they are doing. An era where teams are set up to fail. And they’ve done it with churn everywhere except coach and quarterback. Churn of course includes the introduction of new rules designed to stop one team and we don’t need to say who that team is. 🙂

    I have no doubt that in a one game winner take all scenario these Patriots can beat many if not all of the great teams of the past. No reason to think they can’t.

    Greatest team of all time.

  74. Willing Pawns, the NFL is using you and they obviously do not hold your intelligence in high regard. They distribute information that you want to hear and believe, offer no substance and think they you’ll lap it up like ice cream. Be smarter than they are. Please feel free to make your own judgement, but at least do some investigating before eating up the misinformation. The NFL PR department (and their media lackies) have an agenda and have proven to be a very unreliable source for information.

    Look at the court records, look at the “independent” investigations, look at the lies that have been proven.

    Thank you.

  75. The “Spygate Scandal” established a narrative. If anyone remembers the reporting at the time, all sorts of inaccurate information was being reported in an effort to be the first to break the story. Any corrections of the erroneous information wasn’t issued until after the fact or buried in other reports of fantastic charges. It went from a legitimate charge of the Patriots failing to comply with a rule change to Bill Belichick hiding in people’s closets like the boogey man.

    The fact that most of the accusations were not accurate didn’t matter because public opinion was already directed. The majority of this false information is used as the basis for the “history” of the Patriots organization cheating systematically.

    Once you’ve been convinced that the organization are “cheaters” then you’ll be far more willing to buy into any other story of them cheating. You’ll be so convinced that you’ll sweep the locker room for bugs. Or you’ll run fake plays in your walk throughs. Or you’ll leave fake play sheets lying around to fool them. You won’t spend nearly as much time as you should preparing to beat them, like you should.

    Sometimes where there is smoke there is fire. Other times there is mob mentality that see smoke where there are only clouds.

  76. So, if I understand this correctly, the Panthers lost and assumed cheating by the Patriots. No evidence of cheating. Just a hunch based on the way the game played out. And why would anyone take this seriously?

    And I’m a Giants fan. We own the Patriots. We know it. They know it.

    But I have become a huge Patriots fan this year. No team has ever had to put up with as much false crap as the Patriots.

    And they just keep winning.

  77. Once again bad reporting they have not proved anything in deflate gate and everyone forgets that there were lots of accusations in filming walkthroughs that turned out to be false. The only thing they got caught doing was filming signals in the Jets game, which every team in the league has been doing for years,

    The Jets are the worst. They get caught cheating all of the time, yet they haven’t won anything of significance since Man first landed on the Moon.

  79. Be careful Steelers

    Thurday night…Drones will be capturing every word,

    Cheerleaders will have ultra sensitive mikes, in their bras.

    The field paint, will have special magneting…to cause fumbles.

    Check under EVERY sign…hidden cameras.

    Not to mention…Belichick has paid off the hotel providing pre game meals, lacing the food w/lacitives….severe discomfort.

    ENJOY YOUR VISIT TO NE…as the mind screw has just begun

  80. Just because they win a lot people will go after them.
    Just because a lot people say you cheat doesn’t mean you cheat.
    I am a fan of winning.

    ~~~ Pat fan Lance Armstrong
  81. He suspects it because it’s likely true.
    Getting caught cheating a lot doesn’t mean they’re not good at it, it means they do it a LOT more than we already know.
    There’s a reason Belicheat was a washout before New England.
  82. “A lie told often enough becomes truth.”
    That’s what the NFL and the media has been doing to the Patriots.
    Two times they were accused. One they accepted the violation-spygate.
    2. Deflategate. The NFL lost in the federal court. Brady swore an oath and won. The judge forced the NFL to admit they have nothing against Brady. That’s the naked truth.
    The rest are baseless conjectures.
    Goodell and the NFL are the ones ” BUSTED” for lying.
  83. The Panthers? Really?
    Watch now as every team who lost to the Patriots will claim that, they didn’t really lose, there just had to be “something up.” Loser whining.
    Guess what Panthers–you lost. Brady waved his magic wand and the Wizard Belichick on you!
    Whatever you need to believe…
  84. All of this just makes the Giants Super Bowl wins and the 18-1 season taste sooooo much sweeter.
    Feels so good to be a fan of one of the most historic and classiest organizations in sports. Go Big Blue!!
    And who was their Defensive Coordinator in their first two Super Bowl wins?
  85. This is ridiculous. If these accusations were true, BB wouldn’t even be coaching high school football today. Do you really think he has more power than the owners? Even Kraft wouldn’t keep a serial cheater around. Even if it was an NFL cover up, they would still eventually dump Belichick.
  86. First there was no deflating of footballs by anyone or anything other than mother nature. Those are the facts right now. Second, the panthers stopped the patriots for a large portion of that game. Did they have the Patriots game plan? Did they tape the Pats? These people need professional help.
  87. Why does every article pointing out cheating by the Patriots have to include qualifying statements? We all know they cheated in these situations. We also know that Kraft pours payola over this site.
  88. Huh. Where is it that Witherspoon mentions his Panthers team cheating during that Super Bowl?
    Ten Carolina players had their prescriptions filled for steroids the week before that game and their TEAM DOCTOR plead guilty to illegally prescribing steroids and HGH.
    Witherspoon might want to look at which team had the actual proof of cheating.
