We’ve gotten some of the salient details about the Marcell Dareus contract. The bad news for Dareus (and those who reported the initial numbers) is that the six-year extension doesn’t have a base value of $100 million, as others have reported. The deal is actually worth $95.1 million.

The great news for Dareus is that a lot of the money if fully guaranteed at signing. And the rest of the guarantees revert to full guarantees soon.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Dareus gets a signing bonus of $25 million, fully paid out by December. He also has a fully-guaranteed base salary of $3 million.

There’s a fully-guaranteed option bonus of $7 million due in March 2016, and his 2016 base salary of $7 million is fully guaranteed.

Also, the full guarantee moves to $55 million on the third day of the 2016 league year and to $60 million on the third day of the 2017 league year.

And while the guarantees for a given year can void if Dareus gets suspended again in that year, the cap hit for cutting him in 2016 would be $20 million. In 2017, it would be $20.6 million.

So he’ll be around for the next three years. Which is a pretty good deal for a guy who currently is unable to practice or play for the season opener due to a suspension.
