Patriots fans taunt Goodell with “Where is Roger?” chant

AP

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell decided not to attend tonight’s season opener in New England, but Patriots fans made sure Goodell knew they were thinking of him.

After the Patriots took a 28-14 lead in the fourth quarter, a loud “Where is Roger?” chant began at Gillette Stadium.

The answer is that Goodell is watching the game on TV. Although the commissioner usually attends the first game of the season, Goodell decided not to show his face in the stadium where he’s a much-hated man after he attempted to suspend Tom Brady for the first four games of the season.

Goodell probably won’t be at any games in New England this season, as there’s a great deal of anger and mistrust between the league office and the folks in New England. But Patriots fans will hope that they get to see Goodell in the one game the commissioner absolutely must attend, the Super Bowl. The way the defending champs have played tonight, that looks entirely possible.

  1. Living well is the best revenge.

Speaking of which, the Patriots have won like four games in a row since many of your teams played at all.

Also, one was a Super Bowl.

  2. When asked what he thought about the game, Roger said that this was the first time he is seeing and he is absolutely shocked.

  3. I heard Brady owns a stealthy little mouse that he trained to chew on the Steelers headset wiring. That’ll keep you guys busy in your therapy sessions for awhile I’m sure.

  4. So where are all the fumbles and interceptions the haters claimed we would see? Dang, at one point Brady completed 19 passes in a row….in the rain!

The haters are going to have a long season….

For all games where the Patriots are the visitors, I call on all fans to hold up asterisk signs.

I encourage you to do it. The Pats feed off your hatred!

Just wait for the reception the patriots get next weekend in Buffalo. The “where is roger chant” will pale in comparison.

    ———

Brady will get his 24th win against the Bills next week and Buffalo will be 0-2. Talk of firing Rex will commence.

  7. Pete Rose won’t get in the Hall. Same should go for any Patriots from the last 15 years. Make it happen sports writers, you have more power than you know.

  8. Pretty damning indictment on Goodell. He was simply too scared to attend a Patriots game (the season opening game). Roger the Dodger is an embarassment and should be forced to resign ASAP.

  9. We don’t hate the cheaters because they think they have won something, we hate them because they did not honestly win any of the superbowls. They ALL have an asterisk and that makes them worthless.

  10. Patriot fans are irrelevant. When Brady’s gone they’ll be home on Sunday’s watching good teams on TV. Enjoy the ride because it’s almost over. Payback will be a bitch. Nothing lasts forever.

  11. Classy Patriots fans taunt the man who bailed them out by destroying the Spygate tapes. Seriously, Patriots fans are the worst of the worst. They even make Packers fans look like upstanding citizens who bathe.

  12. It’s a shame the commissioner of the NFL chose not to attend the opening game. It’s unheard of across all levels of sport. Roger thinks the NFL is about him but it isn’t. He lacks integrity and not attending the opener illustrated that point.

Roger chants were righteous payback for character assassination and numerous lies. grow up

…and when Roger pushes the sale of your team from your dreary city and stadium to anywhere else that will spend the money for a new stadium….. you can still do your chants while watching the Sabres.

  16. It’s funny how by leaking false information and paying for a misleading report, Roger Goodell was able to create the impression that the Patriots are guilty and the Brady verdict was just about process than innocence.

A few balls had lower than expected pressure, but were well within a figure that could be achieved through natural gameplay, as several people have outlined. There was absolutely no text or proven communication regarding people intentionally taking air out of balls.

Roger Goodell is absolutely pathetic. With all the backlash to his recent punishment he thought, “Hey, everyone else hates the Patriots so if I go after them I’ll win the public back!” ala Adam Silver going after Donald Sterling. It didn’t work.

Yeah but it’s been an awesome ride, one you’ll never get to experience.

  18. The Patriots illustrate the point that cheaters are disgusting. What a bunch of worthless chumps, Kraft should be ashamed.

  19. All the haters out there just can’t accept that Brady is as good as he is.

Hate all you want. Blame it on cheating if it makes you feel a little more secure in your own failures. But seeing is believing, and Tom Brady is one of the best players to ever play the quarterback position. If you can’t see the talent, then you don’t understand the game.

    Rock on, GOAT. Rock on.

  20. It’s not enough for 100 million people, the media, womens groups, an ex-NFL commissioner and a federal judge to tell him what a fool he is. Roger gets paid 40 mil a year, He can take it. It was easier to get rid of Nixon.

The owners laugh at the commissioner’s decisions just they way we do, ‘cept their makin’ money.. Until we can find a way to make Goodell’s embarrassment the owner’s. too. we’ll have to watch the sport dwindle.

  21. Goodell is acting like this is life or death. Don’t be so serious. Don’t be such a baby Roger. Show up to the game. I was there and the chant was nothing compared to how amazing the ceremony was. It was classless for Roger not to show up.

What do you know about Patriots fans. Come to a game. Pateiots fans are all class. The Steelers fans were too tonight. A great game all around.

The Patriots just won the Super Bowl. Maybe their fans were irrelevant for a few years but they certainly aren’t any more.

  24. “Haters” is such a strange word and self serving for those who use it. I’m not a Pats fan but don’t “hate” them or anything to do with them. I don’t trust them or anything to do with them, but otherwise am pretty indifferent about them. That lack of trust is just the way it is, rightly or wrongly, but it isn’t a function of being a “hater”, no matter how convenient a term that may be for some of those who choose to bandy it about. Suspect most rational non-Pats fans feel much he same way.

  25. He was at home watching 40+ tapes of other teams practices….. scanning some stolen playbooks he found in garbage cans.

You know…. he is ‘doing his job…… well’ ….. as Bill Belichek would say…..

  26. If the police had to protect his house before, then he may have received at least 1 threat to himself or his family.

If he actually has received death threats or threats to his family, then it would make sense why he wouldn’t attend a game at Gillette.

  27. What a great and honorable man is Lord Goodell. I trust he is sitting on his iron throne beside his lady, along with his squire Wells and Eunuch De Smith.

What matters are there to tend to the realm’s needs today, Lord Goodell?
    More wine?

  28. Good Morning Patriot Haters, if you didn’t watch there was a game last night. Guess what, the champs won again and it was raining. I bet the Pats Footballs all had 12.5 PSI. I didn’t see a fumble and the G.O.A.T didn’t throw an interception and he had 4 TD passes. How could that be?

I hope Roger had fun and enjoyed the game watching on TV.

    _____

Where’s the asterik? On the Lombardi trophies? Or in your head?

  30. These “cheating” comments are stupid. Your “opinion” of the facts involved of whether there was cheating depends entirely on what team you root for, doesn’t it?
Besides that, if there was so much illegal activity, why haven’t any ex-Patriots players – especially the unhappy ones – that moved on to other teams spoken up about it? Huh?

  31. Nobody does it better! Every one hates the best! Go pats! It’s so much fun to listen too those losers cry! Marshall Faulk you sucked in super bowl 30! Loser

Yup, but they’ll win again and laugh all the way to the airport. Cute little Bills fans.

  39. The owners should have demanded he be there. He’s the commissioner of the league, it’s corporate face, he can’t hide because he thinks some people are going to say mean things to him. Hell he keeps showing up at the draft and getting booed into oblivion by fans from all the teams so it’s not like he isn’t used to it.

  42. Watching this game, it seemed to me that the outcome was decided more by an anemic defense that had some serious scheme issues and a kicker who couldn’t connect rather than extraordinary play by the Pats. They looked good, but I don’t think they looked like world beaters. Their secondary is suspect and they made a 32 year old DeAngelo Williams look like Barry Sanders. Just my humble opinion.

  43. Great look, Pats fans. Great look. Shoving it in everyone’s faces, pretending Brady and the Deflators were completed exonerated. Anyone with a brain knows that’s not what happened. The decision was much more about Goodell’s incompetence than anything else. And it doesn’t absolve your franchise’s unprecedented history of cheating.

  44. That’s OK Roger. There are still 31 other stadiums you can visit to see a game.

Oh, wait… except for the Superdome after the bogus Bountygate sham, so make it 30.

Oh yeah, and better skip SunLife after bullying the ‘Fins.

And better stay out of the new US Bank stadium in Minneapolis after the screw up with Peterson.

Hmmm… maybe you should just keep watching all the games from your basement. You’ll have pissed off the entire league pretty soon.

  45. You have a well documented cheating team playing with all kinds of “anomalies” occurring during the games they play but yet the NFL does nothing about it.
Kraft has everyone in his pocket and it will continue game after game.

    Are you talking about Framegate?

  49. Love all the internet lawyers out there…matter of law, if the internal process is faulty/tainted so is the evidence. The NFL did not do themselves any favors by not allowing Brady to face his accuser and cross examine the supposed evidence. Brady was denied his process through a biased arbitrator, therefore he is innocent….move on…
