Steelers’ website makes strong claim about Headsetgate

AP

As he detailed problems his coaching staff had with the headset communications on Thursday night, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin stopped short of coming right out and accusing the Patriots of cheating. But the Steelers’ website makes clear that the team believes the Patriots were in control of the audio problems the Steelers’ coaches were having.

An article on the Steelers’ website says that the audio communications problems started and stopped repeatedly — always stopping when a league official came down to the sideline to deal with the matter, then starting up again when the league official left the sideline area.

“This is the kind of stuff that happens to the visiting team in Gillette Stadium all the time,” the article said. “From the start of the game through the opening 14 minutes of the first quarter, the Steelers’ coaches’ headsets were receiving the Patriots Radio Network broadcast of the game. The broadcast was so loud that the Steelers coaches were unable to communicate, and the NFL rule is that if one team’s headsets are not working the other team is supposed to be forced to take their headsets off. It’s what the NFL calls the Equity Rule. Strangely enough, whenever an NFL representative proceeded to the New England sideline to shut down their headsets, the Steelers headsets cleared. Then as the representative walked away from the New England sideline, the Steelers’ headsets again started to receive the Patriots game broadcast.”

It’s impossible to read that as anything other than the Steelers accusing the Patriots of cheating. The allegation is published under the byline of Bob Labriola and is not presented as an official statement from the Steelers, but you can bet that a Steelers website writer wouldn’t write that if he thought the higher-ups in the organization disagreed with it.

The NFL says the headsets are provided by the league and the problems on Thursday night were a technical issue that got fixed early in the game. But that won’t stop those who are inclined to believe the Patriots are cheaters from thinking that the “technical issue” was caused by someone who works for the Patriots. That’s clearly what the Steelers think.

  1. It’s unreal this franchise is still cheating inside that stadium. This league is so unbelievably tainted and turned into a soap opera. Turned off the game in the 2nd quarter then cancelled my Sunday Ticket. I’m done. Enjoy your cheating team and this ruined league. I’ve had it with everything about the NFL and they lost a life-long fan here. Signing off forever.

  2. This is truly becoming pathetic. The NFL controls the communications. Anyone with a brain stem knows that its all bunk. The Steelers got beat, deal with it.

  3. Boohoo. Why is it the only team that hasn’t complained like little babies the last 4 games the Patriots have played are the Seahawks? Jeeze, for all of the crap they take about talking so much, at least they know when to admit they weren’t the best team.

  4. No wonder the steelers lost! Their coaches are paranoid, insane, and in over their heads!

  5. How is it not cheating? And this happens over & over & over & over again with the Patriots. Yet we should call Tom Brady better than Joe Montana and rename the Super Bowl trophy the Belichick tropy according to New England fans.

  6. Ravens complain about Pats, Steelers fans make fun of Ravens, Steelers complain about Pats.

The league controls the headsets unless the information everyone has is wrong or Bill Billichek is really Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

  7. Just another example how whiny losers will accuse the Pats of cheating. The home team doesn’t provide or oversee the electronic communication equipment. The NFL does. If you want to blame someone for the comm equipment problems blame the NFL.

    Again.

  8. The headsets are provided by, supported by and run by the league. They are self contained and on the field, on the Steelers sideline. There is no boogie man people. Jeez.

  9. Of course they do. Does it mention that the Patriots had the same issue. Does it mention the NFL and not the home team controls the communications?

Was it the headset issue that they couldn’t cover Gronk or Edlmen?
Was it the headset issue that the kicker missed 2 FG?
Was it the headset issue that the stupid WR didn’t get both feet in on an easy TD?
Was it the headset issue that caused a stupi option pass on the first drive?
Was it the headset issue that the team was dragging in the 2 minute O?

    Probably not!

  11. Do you know why the NY Giants never complained about the Patriots cheating?

    Because they beat them.

Quit whining you bunch of babies!

  12. Pittsburgh is Whine Country!
Tomlin looks and sounds like Gary Coleman as he sheds a tear over the faulty headsets.
….and then to complain about his defense’s lack of discipline on the goal line, and to blame that on the Pats as well….Great Stuff!
    Loser mentality.
Never able to overcome obstacles….just able to whine about them. What a victim!
Squealer fans should be embarrassed by their coach.
Between the Ravens and the Steelers…two traditionally tough teams….with absolute whiners at their helms.

whiny self-congratulatory Pats fans would be screaming bloody murder if this happened to their team in another stadium…

  16. I thought the Steelers were a stronger and classier franchise and wouldn’t stoop to these levels of degradation.

I understand the Pats have cheated with Spygate in the past. But when it’s the NFL’s own equipment, how do you still rationalize that it’s the Pats fault?! It’s absurd to say the least that when you have the NFL admitting blame, you still want to blame the loss on the Pats….

Belichick owns real-estate in your heads. If this was any other team, I 100000% guarantee you nobody would ever hear of these issues.

  17. The list goes on and on:
    *Spygate
    *Deflategate
    *Headsetgate (opposing team only)
    *Stealing plays sheets
    *Bugging locker rooms
    *Refs in back pocket
    *The Patriot Way
    *All of the above

Agreed difference between a classy organization and sore losers

  19. I have given the Patriots benefit of the doubt for so long now. I do believe they cheated but I just think people make too much out of it. There is no way they would intentionally do this at this time, right? I suppose it could be BB, Brady and Kraft’s way of giving Goddell the 1 finger salute.

  20. Blame the headsets on that D. Lame. Whatever happened to losing with class. Kids look up to these teams. Way to teach them how to handle defeat.

  21. This just in: Belichick made it rain when Steelers had the ball, and made it stop when Pats had the ball…what a cheater (sarcasm)!

    ———————————

Their bandwagon fans are a different story…

  23. Because the Pats, in the first quarter of the first game, after all the attention, decided to cheat by crossing RF freqs on communication equipment the NFL controls. Oh yes, what a truly diabolical plot to derail the Steelers. This is hysterical.

  24. Again this is a team that is so stupid that they have a head coach so dumb he was caught trying to trip and seriously injure a Ravens player a couple of years ago right on national TV. The fact that the pats have no control of the headsets or communication system doesn’t make a dent in their thick skulls

  25. For a lot of people, it’s easier to believe in conspiracy theories than to accept the reality that your team simply isn’t good enough to beat the Patriots. Seems to me that communications problems don’t explain how Brady was able to complete 19 straight passes, but I don’t suppose that will change anyone’s opinion.

  26. It was the headset that forced the Steelers to play ten yards off of Gronk.
    ——
Or…..the lack of communication due to headset issue didn’t allow the defense to get their call in on time.

At this point, it’s hard to give the Patriots any benefit of the doubt.

  27. I guess we now know what Goodell was up to. Based on his lies during framegate, um, I mean deflategate, I would be shocked if this wasn’t the NFL sending more controversy and hate in the Patriots direction

  28. Well, if NE did do something to the league supplied communications system, I’m very confident that Troy Vincent and his top notch staff can quickly and thoroughly investigate the problem, identify the cause, find the guilty party and punish them appropriately.

  29. steeler fans are convinced that their team should have gone 19-0 last year and then again this year. Every team that beat them last year clearly cheated. And the Patriots clearly put that game out of reach in the first quarter when they were cheating their butts off.
How dare anyone cheat such an honorable and fair playing organization.

  30. Not shocked at all. The Patriots are going to keep cheating and dismissing the claims as hysteria because of deflate gate. The NFL will not allow this to continue, this time the NFL will be prepared with the right people and the right controls in place. The NFL will destroy the Patriots in time because the other owners are sick of Kraft and his cheating team. And when you burn that bridge with your business partners it is all over for you.

  31. I don’t know if the Patriots are at fault here or not. What I do know is, if somebody lied to me once, I tend to not believe them again right away. And the Patriots have certainly lied on many occasions, so I would be the fool if I believed what they say now.

  32. I never thought the hard core, rough and tough Steelers of my youth would ever become the whinny, excuse making, sour grapes, sore losers of today. What a total shame. Tomlin is emblematic of today’s victim, take no responsibility, culture. America is in deep trouble. Bring back the days of steel-curtain real men

  33. the patriots aren’t only in the other teams headsets they are in the other teams head , if tomlin has a playoff game in foxborro he might as well concede it right now

  34. Nobody is saying that the Steelers lost because of the headset problem and nobody in the Steelers locker room is crying about it but the league needs to crack down on what is happening at Gilette. Obviously someone was playing with the broadcast because how would a radio station broadcast be piped in by accident? It almost seems like it was done on purpose to stick it to the league for what has happened.

  35. WHAAAAAAAAAAA! Add the Steelers to the long list of crybabies who sob and cry about some imagined cheating when all the Pats did was kick their ass fair and square. Hey, Steeler fans, read this – the NFL is responsible for the headsets, not the home team. Technical issues can and do happen sometimes. Now here’s a box of tissues, and please keep the sobbing down.

  36. Until there’s hard evidence it’s all he said she said, and your views on the Patriots (and their past) will probably determine your views on this.

I’ve got to say, though, given the recent ESPN and SI reports and the whole Deflategate thing, if the Pats actually were cheating last night, they’re either dumb as rocks or arrogant as hell.

  37. Guess the Pats coaches should have just taken a page out of Tomlin’s playbook and tripped your players instead.

BB is in your head! They also made your kicker miss two easy kicks, your receiver step out our bounds in the endzone with nobody anywhere near him, your offensive line jump offsides at the 1, your defense forget to cover Gronk and get carved up all night by Brady. Man up and admit defeat- my god – pathetic!

    Who said any of this?

  44. It is well known around the league that Belichick has an agreement with the NSA to rent defense satellites during the games to disrupt the opposing team’s headsets…but nothing in the rule book says he can’t do this…

  45. The Patriots cheated by not running down the sideline and allowing Tomlin to trip the Pats receivers.

    And by making it rain.

And by legally shifting the line.

And by having the NFL run headsets screw up.

My DirecTv went out too, did the Pats do that too?

  46. Hey Jhein23

    We don’t want non-Pats fans

Your Steelers cheated with steroids all through the 70s

Who from the Steelers is crying about this? The quote is from a website and not from anyone on the Steelers sideline.

  48. Energy to power these headsets comes direct from Gillette Stadium. Wouldn’t be surprised if there are a few hidden switches somewhere deep in the bowels of the stadium. I also assume it must be pretty easy to interfere with the signals flying around said stadium. I would ALSO then conclude that this s the time the recording of the hand signals and down and distance takes place, as the visitors would naturally then resort solely to that type of communication. Matters not whose equipment it is. It is only as good as the infrastructure used to run it. And that infrastructure has been compromised.

  49. Let’s say the patriots are innocent. Patriot fans ask yourself why aren’t any of the other 30 something teams ever accused? Why is it always this team?

  50. It looks like the Steelers whining has spilled over into the comments section. Per usual. This is going to happen all year. Every time a team gets smacked up they are going to look for excuses, and even if stuff like this happens in every NFL stadium every weekend, it’s only going to matter when it’s the Patriots.

It’s fantastic. I’m embracing this heel persona. It’s hilarious to see how irrational the Patriots make people. I’m glad you guys have something that can help you sleep at night.

  51. Worst franchise in sports. Nobody respects the Patriots or there pathetic fans who come on here defending them. Every Super Bowl *****. We don’t like u losers in Philly either for taping and cheating in our superbowl.

  52. I just find this whole thing incredibly funny. The big bad Patriots are in everyone’s heads. There’s no way the Patriots can do anything with the headset system and even if they could, it’s ludicrous to think they would do it game 1, with the whole country watching after all the deflategate controversy. The Steelers have gotten soft.

  53. The Patriots have been complaining about league provided communication since Gillette was built. It affects the Patriots to some degree in almost every home game. The league can’t fix it. The Patriots deal with it like they dealt with it last night by switching to an alternate means of communication.

Now consider this. The Pittsburgh coach said it happens the Steelers every time they come to Gillette. The Pittsburgh QB said they watched the Patriots D line on film shift on the goal line and it was cadence based.

How did the Steelers react to things they say they knew would happen?

Terrible play, terrible coaching, fantastic whining.

  54. Technology is never 100% and I’m sure if anyone wanted to be truly objective they would discover this happens across the NFL. Mike Tomlin and the Steelers need instead to figure out why they did such a crappy job covering Gronk. That is why you lost so stop crying. Guess those terrible towels are really crying towels!!!!!!!!!

  55. hahahaha, NFL equipment people don’t understand how to use their own equipment. LoL!

Comcast SportsNet’s Tom E. Curran reported additional details, saying the problems were due to a “grounding issue” that caused the Patriots’ radio broadcast to bleed into the Steelers’ headsets. The issue did not cause communication to be lost, just “impaired,” Curran added.

  56. Mike Tomlin whining and complaining AGAIN, what a shock. How about you lost the game because you called a horrible one, you couldn’t manage the clock properly and you had NO ANSWER for Gronk. You ran on the field an tried to trip a player, just shut your mouth!

  57. Season ticket holders from MIT inconspicuously sit in the fifth row behind the visitor bench and do two things: they use a Google app to detect the team radio frequency, and then modulate the already unmodulated game broadcast to this frequency so that it interferes with the microphone inputs (it’s called common-mode doubling); secondly, they shut the intermodulation off whenever they see someone from the NFL (or at least non-team officials) approaching the communications cart – afterwards the intermodulation is restored. It’s like being a puppeteer. Ot cat/mouse.

I can only imagine what protocols the NFL uses at Gillette when its officials in droves have to show up there for a game. Notwithstanding anything the Pats may or may not have done, the paranoia is outstanding!

  58. The headsets. Are provided. And controlled. By the league.

Good God, as a Pats fan living in Pittsburgh, this is getting ridiculous. If Steelers fans could get their level of football knowledge to match their level of enthusiasm, we wouldn’t have these problems.

  59. clarencewhorley, I think you are being sarcastic however, it is well known around the league that the patriots have employed native american witch doctors to control the weather to their advantage. However, nothing in the rule book against it…

  60. Every team that loses to the Pats this year will say it’s because they cheated, not because there team sucked.

The haters hear what they want to hear, that will NEVER change.

  61. Not a fan of either team but this is pathetic that it happens almost every time at Gillet Stadium. This is why the cheating name will never go away.

  62. It’s sad to see Tomlin not take responsibility for his team playing so poorly. Your defense didn’t even bother to guard gronk that’s why you lost

  63. More Belicheat. When a guy like that rarely ever smiles, then you know he’s generally up to no good.

  64. I’m glad Tomlinson threw his hissy fit. Better to clear the air on the issue and expose the truth (inclimate weather caused the issue per the NFL’s statement), than have to read about it 10 years later in an ESPN hit piece from an anonymous source.

I look forward to a full season of “fed up” coaches making accusations after losing to the Patriots, only to have the truth come out that whatever they are complaining about wasn’t the result of nefarious actions.

The real issue here is that the majority of the coaches in the NFL act like overgrown children and would rather blame loses on the other team cheating than acting like a men and taking responsibility.

  65. The Patriots didn’t deflate balls intentionally. I mean any owner in their right mind would voluntarily give up a FIRST and fourth round pick, as well as pay a $1 Million fine without a fight. Makes total sense…

Regarding the game, nice win for the Pats. Brady was sharp and Edleman moved the chains continuously. We seemed to shoot ourselves in the foot a lot though (confusion on defense, missed FGs, not scoring a TD on first and goal from the 1, being wide open in the end zone and stepping out on a TD reception). Playing the “What If” game, that’s 14 points left off the board. We’ll rebound, especially with Bell and Bryant coming back in 1 & 3 games.

    Congrats NE Fans, good win…

  66. It’s so pathetic how Steeler fans are crying cheating. Most of them do know the nFL not only provides the ehadsets, but oversees all communiation throughout the game. Both teams had issues, it was just the poorl;y coached team that hose to use it as an excuse. The Pats are not only in the ehad of 31 fan bases, but clearly in head of the overrated Tomlin and BenR with his nonsense “isn’t it a rule? or maybe just an unwritten rule?” How can you be a fan of such a sad bunch of excuse seeking losers?

  67. Is he blaming the headsets for his horrendous clock management? You dont see the pats crying, they had the same issues. Its because winners dont whine, just babies do

  68. When the Steel Curtain franchise becomes that of the lilac drapes, Patton’s famous speech has to been rewritten to fit modern sensibilities:

“Americans hates a winner. Americans will not tolerate a consistent winner. Americans despise winners. Americans play to tie all of the time. I wouldn’t give a hoot in hell for a man who won and laughed. That’s why Americans no longer play to win; for the very idea of winning is hateful to an American.”

  69. I get it now.

It was the Patriots’ broadcaster to advise Tomlin to not cover Gronk at the line, convince them to use poor clock management skills, jump on offense when the defense moves, get in position to catch a TD pass while you have your foot out of bounds and miss two field goals. Anything else?

  70. Remember when Tomlinson tried to trip that player while he pretended to be watching the big screen during the return? Good times…stay classy!

  71. The Steelers’ fans whining this morning are the same fans who ragged on Harbaugh for complaining about a formation that was so inherently unfair it has now (thanks to Harbaugh) been banned. The difference is that the headsets had no effect on the game. It’s just another excuse for a team that can no longer meet the fans’ unrealistic expectations. My advice — talk to Redskins’ fans. Maybe they can help you accept the fact that the glory days are long gone.

  72. Individually, the accusations against the Pats over the years could be excused with a plausible explanation but collectively, what are the odds that every cheating issue involves the same damn team?

when the pinnacle of the professional sports world stops putting up with one of their teams flagrantly cheating in whatever way they can…

this isn’t some massive conspiracy to point out the truth…. it is the truth… the Pats, tape, jam radio, play the shell game on eligible receivers, unfairly quick snap, deflate balls, and probably do 30 other things to cheat the integrity of the game.

BB and TB go down in history as the dirtiest guys in the history of the NFL, no question.

  74. We wouldn’t be talking about this right now if the Steeler defense had actually put a man on Gronkowski, and hit him every time he tried to come off the line.

If you’re going to let your opponent’s best weapon run free and uncovered, don’t be surprised when he scores on you.

As for the headsets, yeah, I’m sure the Patriots were messing with them, and have probably been pulling this garbage for years – that’s what second class organizations do. But it doesn’t take a coach sitting in a press box to figure out that you need cover Gronk and bump him off his routes before they get started.

  75. It’s not Tomlin’s fault. He’s been condition since birth to blame others whenever things don’t go his way.

  76. what don’t we understand here, the League, the National Football League, the NFL sets up, manages, administrates all the in-game communications equipment. They, the NFL “OWN” the equipment, the home teams provides electricity only.

  77. THE NFL PROVIDES THE HEADSETS AND CONTROLS THE FREQUENCIES OF THE COMMUNICATIONS.

TOMLIN IS A WHINY LITTLE GIRL THAT RAN A STUPID TRICK PLAY IN A STUPID SPOT WHICH KILLED THE GAME FOR HIS TEAM. THEN THEY DIDN’T COVER GRONK.

    GET OVER IT.

  78. The nfl controls the headsets..yet you people still believe the hype and blame the patriots. I’m not even a patriots fan but it’s easy to see how roger is coming after them. Mark Cuban was right..the nfl is going to implode. Looks like it’s going to be one team at a time

  90. The league office has zero control of this league. And they are encouraging this type of behavior after constantly being embarrassed by the players standing up for themselves and winning in court(which should never have to get to that point ).

This has become more about the storylines off the field. This league is mirroring the WWF/E.

You turned it off in the second quarter because of the Patriots “cheating” when you were in no way aware of Patriots “cheating” at that time. I.E. You’re leaving football forever because your team lost a game.

We’re better off without people like you supporting this league.

    -Packers fan

  92. The headset told the Steelers to play with 10 players. The headset also told the Steelers to step out of bounds when wide open in the end zone. The headset told Scobee to shank those filed goals. And the headset told the Steelers not to cover the most dangerous tight end in the league. Yup… I blame the headset for the loss – had nothing to do with football. In fact, instead of wasting everybody’s time with these games, winners should be determined at the outset by whoever has the best headset (provided and controlled by the league.) Iron City Dopes.

  93. @ jhein3:

    Feels great!

Pointless? I follow the Patriots for my own entertainment. Why would I care what you think?

Actually watching how far the ridiculousness of these accusations can go is now adding to the entertainment.

    “My Gatorade is warm”

” They can see replays (on a 7 sec. delay) from the screen in the parking lot”

“They tricked us with a legal defensive shift into jumping off-sides”

” The NFL supplied equipment wasn’t grounding properly, it effected both teams but still it is cheating”

” The Patriot have spies in every airport across America to tell Belichick who gets on.”

Thanks for the congrats. Steelers offense good already will be a force to reckon with once Bell, Bryant and Pouncey get well. Regarding the team accepting the penalties as a admission of guilt I would just say team punishment is not like player punishment. There is no recourse. Just look at the harsh penalties given to Saints for Bountygate. The players penalties were vacated yet the teams draconian punishment remained without a fight. You can’t do anything but accept it.

  95. “We had a lot of problems,” Bill Belichick said. “We had to switch headphones a couple of times. The communication system wasn’t very good. We deal with that, it seems, weekly.

“They told us they were on the verge of shutting it off, but then I guess they got it working. I don’t know, but it was a problem the whole game. We almost had to switch helmets with [Tom] Brady there at the end. Couldn’t get the plays in to him. It was a problem all night.”

In a statement released Thursday night, NFL spokesman Michael Signora said both teams’ communications equipment is provided by the league.

  96. If Tomlin the magician wasn’t able to distract Steeler fans with his mud tossing, he’d have some tough questions to answer the morning and some Steeler fans would be calling for his job. Instead he’s laughing at how easy the sheeple are mislead.

  97. Isn’t it time for ESPN Mort to tweet out some erroneous leak from the NFL front office? …Something like how the NFL found mind-control drugs in the warm drinks provided by the Patriots to the NFL employees responsible for the headset comms?

  98. Yes, Pats fans…the headsets and radios are provided by the league.

What you brainiac’s are either not realizing or just ignoring is that the frequency is being modified or altered. That can be done by anyone, including the Patriots. The leagues equipment is not immune to interference, but we rarely hear about problems anywhere else but Foxborough.

  99. LMAO. Do you want some cheese with your whine Tomlin & Steelers?

I find it hilarious, that the dirtiest, most bush league organization in the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are whining like the crybabies they are.

Hey Tomlin, remember when you tripped a punt returner, and then were smiling and smirking about it? Yeah that wasnt cheating or dirty?

Hey Tomlin why do you coach your little cheap shot artists to hit the opposing players after the whistle?

And you are going to whine about a headset? Child please.

And if this happens all the time, as you claim, I dont know if it was me I’d have a contingency communication plan in case. Sounds like you are the moron, that cant coach, or prepare your team.

Great job covering Gronk on that first TD. LMAO.

Tomlin and the Steelers you are a joke!

  100. Maybe the Steelers should stop looking for excuses for why they can’t beat Belichick/Brady (8-2) and figure out how to play defense? Losers look for excuses for losing.

  101. I’ll believe the League is getting serous about reigning in the Pats when they hire Bernard Pollard as Special Assistant for Enforcement.

  102. Can’t wait for these cheaters to show up in Dallas in October. They better be ready to ball. The Kraken will be on the loose and Gronk won’t get a free release all game.

  103. We’ve been hearing about these headset problems in that stadium for years, from pretty much every team that has ever played there. I would have to surmise that there is indeed a problem but that doesn’t mean the Pats are cheating.

Just for grins, has anyone ever considered the possibility that the headset problems could be coming from outside the stadium? Like some smart hacker/ham radio guy could be doing it? Or perhaps a faulty piece of electrical equipment in or near the stadium?

40 years ago, where we lived, everyone in the subdivision’s TV would get all screwy. The screen would turn to “snow” and you’d hear CB radio over the TV. It wasn’t an “always” thing. It would happen on and off. People complained to the FCC about the CB radio guys, convinced that they were the problem. It turned out to be faulty doorbell transformers in many of the house’s attics (ours was one of the faulty ones). The faulty ones each affected several nearby homes.

  104. Here is a theory.

Since the NFL controls the headsets, maybe they tempered with them.

I wouldn’t put it past the league office to set up the Patriots to look like they were cheating. It would help reinforce their set up around the footballs.

Really, think about it rationally. There is no way the Patriots would do something so blatant the first game after all this.

  105. First thing I hate the Steelers.. But it is common sense that frequencies can be easily manipulated from anyone or organization that want to deflect or jam the transmitted frequencies. Not rocket science but basic electronics. And you don’t have to be very close – half a mile would easily disrupt the transmission – plus it could be very selective which side is affected and how often. so yes they are cheating and it has been happening for years. This Headset thing has been going on now for years.

  106. The headset didn’t cause a goal line stand, the head set didn’t cause the Stillers to not recover a fumble at the 1, the head sets didn’t line up 15 yards off the best TE in the game…Stillers should’ve won by 10 points but they got in their own way. Score should’ve been 31 – 21.

  107. The Lonely Number says:

It’s abject stupidity to think the Pats organization had anything to do with this.

    1. The pats had the same problem, and issues with getting plays to Brady’s helmet throughout the game.

    2. The Pats headsets were turned off anyway.

    3. Communication was not the Steeler’s problem: ridiculously poor defensive and special teams play was.

    4. THE NFL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMUNICATIONS, not the home team.

    ________________________

How about have some logical thinking.

    1. The pats did not have the problem when it mattered, ok they had the problem but they were prepared for it.
    2. As soon a the NFL offical came down it was mysteriously fixed as soon as he left the field it mysteriously started again.
3.Yes the steers played like crap I am not saying they lost because of this alone.
    4. Yes the NFL is responsible but who is in control of the stadium and staffs the stadiums. 100% owned and controlled by the Patriots.
    5. Patriots are cheating.

  108. Every single coach and player of the Steelers could have had perfect NFL communications and they still would have lost. Hey Tomlin… nice job with the clock at the end of both halves and a great plan to stop Gronk.

  109. The NFL just hired me to do an independent investigation which I’ve already completed it.

I conclude that is it probable the Patriots are cheaters!

Here is my $4 million invoice. I was able to get the job because I was $1 million under the last firm the NFL hired.

  110. ironman721 says:

    The League “controlled” the footballs
too. That worked out well for the Boston Black sox.
    ———————-
Excellent point. And it wouldn’t surprise me to hear that the New England defense yelled “Ike!” (Because I’m sure “hike” is illegal and the Pats wouldn’t want to break any rules) during that defensive line shift on the goal line – that ultimately changed the momentum of the game.

  111. We watched two of the best quarterbacks in the history of the game last night and quite possibly the NFL’s greatest ever tight-end and the NFL, the losing coach and the media want to talk about headsets.

  112. The NFL is responsible for the communications system BUT the infrastructure that controls the communication is the property of the stadium and the owner. Why wouldn’t a billionaire NFL owner upgrade or want to resolve a recurring problem with communication at their stadium (especially it’s effecting the Patriots also). Simple, downed communications benefits the home team due to crowd noise making plays and calls harder for the visiting teams.
We have heard complaints about communication systems at this stadium for years with no resolve. Why: advantage Patriots.

  113. Regardless of headset issues, both of those team’s defenses are terrible. Indy will put up 50 on the Pats.

  114. The patriots an NO TIME during the game were without their communications. And they were prepared for it anyway. . . because then KNEW it was going to happen. . . because they were responsible for it.

If they could stop cheating for once, and win their best 11 against the other team’s best 11 without ANY “advantage”, they would have my ultimate respect. Until that happens, I have none for them.

    TAINTED! TAINTED! TAINTED!

  115. Before I say anything first the steelers didn’t lose because of the headset, they just played stupid football. Second I’m not saying in this case the patriots did anything to headsets. With that out of the way, to everyone who says the nfl runs communications who do you think the patriots have in their back pocket…. roger isn’t mad at tom nor did he want tom suspended. He acted so to get approval around the league and is acting butt hurt but trust me he isn’t it is all part of the act. The owner of the patriots is why he is commissioner and they are good friends. To say its far fetched that this was set up isn’t true. Its right up their ally but coming from a non pats fan I dont think they would be doing anything right now right after what they just dealt with over the off-season. And the reason seahawks and giants didn’t complain is cause one the two super bowls the giants played cheating or not pats wouldn’t have won and two the loss for the seahawks has them suck blaming themselves for that last play anyway

  116. OMG what isn’t clear about “.. the league, not the Patriots, control the communications systems. ”

Seriously. Haters gonna hate but at least do it with facts and not wishful thinking.

Anyone with any self respect doesn’t look to others for self affirmation.

You don’t get it. What other teams, fans and owners think is about them, its not about the Patriots, their, players, coaches, fans or owner.

  118. What exactly does it mean to say “NFL controls the headsets” and does that preclude the people running the stadium from disturbing those communications?

  119. I was at the game but you got to wonder if some dumb ass left some equipment exposed in the rain.( it had been raining hours before) Also as mentioned the NFL controls the gear, Tomin should have mentioned this during his interview and that he expected the NFL to investigate.i really think since Lebeau left and they mismanaged/road their old defense 2-3 seasons too long and didn’t get young. I don’t about everyone else but both defenses looked subpar yesterday.

  120. Patriots are the most despicable franchise in professional sports right now. They make millions and somehow will blame technology. Truth is, technology doesn’t fail unless it’s used “improperly”. Ignorance is NOT an excuse beanheads!!!

How long will the other NFL owners allow this to continue?

    Nail on the head… #taintedNEsuperbowls

  122. Can anyone imagine Belichick complaining after a game?

The only thing you hear out of Belichick’s mouth after a loss is:

“we have to play better and coach better”.

Of course, you don’t hear that too often, do you?

  123. Pittsburgh coaches experienced interference in their headsets caused by a stadium power infrastructure issue, which was exacerbated by the inclement weather.

Doesn’t matter what happened later. If the patriots can get up to an early lead, the game plan of the Pittsburgh changes to more pass less run (the run game that clearly was dominant in this game).

  124. I mean this is the same team that got beat by Tim Tebow in the playoffs. TIM TEBOW!!!!…IN THE PLAYOFFS!!! so don’t sit here and tell me the Patriots were cheating when the NFL controlls the headsets. How about you focus on covering Gronkowski and not letting him walk into the inzone. And for the guy cancelling his NFL Ticket because of this. GOOD, no one wants your money anyway.

  125. It doesn’t matter who controls the headsets. Where are all you scientists today? Don’t you understand anything about radio frequency and interference tactics?

  126. The more Mike Tomlin controls that building, the less sportsman it becomes.

I’ve already given up on the team I love because they signed dog-killer Vick. This just represents another long demotion in their ethics as a team with Tomlin at the helm.

The team, talent and morals are crumbling all because of Tomlin and his smoke-and-mirrors coaching talent.

Why Art Rooney II gave him a contract extension when he had 2-years left is beyond me.

  127. Pats – from the top, aaaall the way down to the last fan are delusional, immoral and have poor character. No integrity. They celebrate the battles but continue to lose the war.

A lot of other teams get caught breaking the rules, or cheating in today’s parlance, but most of those teams suck, or don’t win enough for it to matter. Case in point, the Jets.

The Broncos are the cheatingest franchise in the NFL, but you wouldn’t ever know it.

Bill Walsh was the architect of the headset communication scam, yet no one ever calls for their Super Bowls to be vacated.

  130. whiny self-congratulatory Pats fans would be screaming bloody murder if this happened to their team in another stadium…

  131. kinda pathetic excuse making by the steelers. you destroyed momentum with that stupid attempted trick play in the 1st, missed two field goals, let gronk have wayy too much space (even though pre game they “figured out how to stop him”), and repeatedly shot themselves in the foot. thats why they lost

  132. Tomlin, you got schooled last night! Stop looking for excuses! Bill and Tom are exceptional at finding loopholes in the rule book!

  133. It’s amusing to hear Pats fans cry foul and call other teams sore losers when any current situations have the semblance of possible cheating. The Belichik organazition has had cheating in its DNA all along, so naturally it will take an awful long time to walk away from the shadow of spygate, deflatefate, etc. If you cheated on your spouse for 7-10 years, and he/she found out, how long do you think they’d be looking at everything you did with suspicion.

  136. I love how the rest of the NFL always make excuses why they got beat by the Pats. Do you really think that the Pats would do that right now, after all the crap they’ve gone through in the past 8 months and the crap SI and ESPN put out this week??? Please. Hey Tomlin, I’m sure the headsets had something to do with a stupid decision to run a double pass while you were moving the ball at will. I’m sure it had something to do with you defense leaving Gronk all by himself. I’m sure it something to do with your receiver standing out of bounds while catching a lay up TD… Get of it Mr. I didn’t know I was on the field on the kick return.

  137. Sore Losers. Tomlin was out coached. He didn’t have the team prepared. His out of control emotional presser was embarrassing to witness. Grown men don’t cry like that. This emotional problem also caused him to attempt to trip an opposing player on the field of play. How anyone could take anything this guy says without much skepticism is hard to see. 139. @mmack

when exactly did the Jets get caught cheating? or even get accused of cheating the way the pats have? as a jets fan, i must have completely missed that.

  140. The solution is kind of easy. I got money that says the opposing players sideline is the same side of the field and the broadcast equipment thus if it was cross channeled for some reason, fog and rain cause that often, the equipment closest to the broadcast may pick parts of that up.

You can’t tell me the Steelers let that happen for 14 minutes and did nothing. They would have screamed at the officials immediately and said YOUR headsets aren’t working. You don’t just live with it

Yeah, Eagles fan here as well and i don’t think the Pats cheated during the Eagles superbowl and if they did it had nothing to do with them winning. Andy Reid and McNabb are why the Eagles lost, period. (in their defense they are also the two who got them there)

What scares me the most about this is the posters who know the headsets are run by the NFL and not the teams, still, say the pats are cheating. This is a huge problem in this country. People are showed facts and then say i dont agree ……. You don’t get to not agree with facts. The NFL controls the headsets, ergo, if anything goes wrong it is their responsibility… Why is that so hard to understand.

  143. …pretty sure the league, NFL, was in charge of handing out the headsets to both teams…if they were faulty, the league must answer questions, not the Pats.

The issue was the signal no the headseats

  144. Unfortunately for the Patriots. They are so far ahead of every other franchise in coaching and scouting that the dominance has caused pain and despair in the other 31 teams. Jealousy is the most common and strongest emotion. When you dominate and destroy the dreams of so many fans for so many years. The wounds inflicted cause the victims to cry out and whine like wounded puppies. This is awesome.

  149. The nfl is a joke!!!! Sorry ass league just making people cry cheat whenever they lose. It’s technology people not to mention the bitch ass nfl handles the headsets. Steelers no I have lost respect for you. Just another poor sport who cries

  150. Look clearly we have a problem.

Maybe it’s time to really look into what ESPN and other teams have been claiming. We all know they taped signals, deflated footballs, messed with the headsets, and have used the substitution rules to gain and advantage.

What I want to know is how deep this goes and what else have they been doing? I mean you know this is just what they got caught doing!

I think maybe it’s time the owners need to have a special meeting, fire Goddell (because covering up cheating is just as bad), suspend Kraft and Belichick and hire someone outside the NFL to investigate.

If it’s nothing then we move on, if they find out that this stuff is all true then lifetime ban for Bill and Kraft has to sell his team.

Other sports take things seriously the NFL needs to as well. Just look at Pete Rose, Lance Armstrong, Alex Rodriguez, Ron Artest, Marion Jones, Eric Cantona, Ben Johnson, Donald Sterling, even George Steinbrenner. All lifetime bans or very serious punishment because the hurt the actual sport and or cheated. Actually you could even argue that FIFA is in the process of cleaning up it’s act as well (although unlikely).

I can think of one person who want’s the job and might be good for the game Condoleezza Rice. Let’s just clean house, fix how punishment is handed down and get back to the best team wins and football.

  151. Listen I’m a life long Steelers fan. They got beat last night. Nothing to do with headsets. But you Patriots fans are so arrogant and blinded by your love for your team. You refuse to look at the facts. Patriots are KNOWN CHEATERS!!! So no crying here or making excuses. Patriots beat the Steelers last night! But at least the Steelers play straight up! Your organization is a joke! Spygate??? Deflategate? Headsetgate? What’s the common denominator here? Coincidence? Or perhaps the Patriots can’t help themselves. They are cheaters! Plain and simple!

  152. The NFL needs to get its act together.

NFL headsets, set up and maintained by the NFL, malfunctioned for the Steelers for 14 minutes

and, according to Bill Belichick. malfunctioned for the Patriots the ENTIRE GAME.

Obviously the Steelers gained an advantage, since the problem was fixed for them but not for NE.

  153. The Patriots history is playing a role here. This isn’t a one time event. Headset issues happen a couple time a year at Gillette and it is usually with the visiting team headsets. Coincidents keep piling up. You can’t prove they cheated but it is hard not to speculate about their involvement.

There is an odd fact about last night. The Steelers said they were hearing the Patriots radio broadcast. Those radios are encrypted which means any broadcast has to be made and deciphered by a radio with the correct encryption key. Anything else would come across as a garbled mess not as an understandable transmission. I don’t know that bleedover is even possible on those sets.

  154. After this incident gets reviewed it will be at least seven years before the pats have any draft choices….

  155. It doesn’t matter who provided the headsets and who maintains the equipment. The headsets run off a set frequency. Someone in that stadium is determining the frequency that the opposing coaches headsets are running on and is causing interference on that frequency. Just like back in the day when you had a cordless phone or baby monitor and you were on the same frequency as your neighbor you can hear their calls unless you change the channel. It may be encoded or protected so you can’t actually eavesdrop with a scanner but you can sure broadcast another signal on that same frequency and drop it in and out at will. Could be an overzealous fan. Could be a Pats employee. Hell, it could be Gisele.

Yet, all you hear is crickets… those Patriots are magicians, the stuff they are able to pull over and over and over and never a witness… downright uncanny…

  159. Never let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory:

The NFL released a statement late Thursday night.

The statement reads: In the first quarter of tonight’€™s game, the Pittsburgh coaches experienced interference in their headsets caused by a stadium power infrastructure issue, which was exacerbated by the inclement weather. The coaches’€™ communications equipment, including the headsets, is provided by the NFL for both clubs use on game day. Once the power issue was addressed, the equipment functioned properly with no additional issues.

  160. Is it possible that the reason why the Patriots keep winning is because they are just better than everybody else?

Or do we need to keep accusing them of cheating all the time?

  161. We need another Ted Wells Report and a $10 million investigation that will say Ernie Adams is generally aware about these technical issues. Seriously, I am happy that Ernie and Bill are in the heads of Tomlin and others. It keeps their focus on that and not on clock management and ridiculously stupid play calling.

  162. The league controls the headsets same as they control the pressure in footballs.

Patriots equipment manager violated equipment protocol/rules (taking the balls unescorted to the washroom). Patriots got fined.

Patriots violated videotaping protocol. They got fined.

It’s not a stretch to assume the Patriots or any team for that matter will exploit anything they can to gain advantage over their opponents.

Risk of getting caught in most cases is worth the reward. Expect it to continue.

  163. The league’s statement:
“In the first quarter of tonight’s game, the Pittsburgh coaches experienced interference in their headsets caused by a stadium power infrastructure issue, which was exacerbated by the inclement weather. The coaches’ communications equipment, including the headsets, is provided by the NFL for both clubs use on game day. Once the power issue was addressed, the equipment functioned properly with no additional issues.”

Putting aside the tin foil hats for a moment ask yourself this, why is it that a an entity with a $10B annual revenue stream can’t address this recurring issue? It happens consistently in a handful of stadiums, Heinz included. The irony is that in what should have been a showcase event the indifferent overlords should have egg all over there faces but will be let off the hook because it happened in Darth Hoodie’s House of Horrors.

    “Where is Roger?”
    Indeed

  164. What is truly amazing is how many people will disregard facts in an attempt to make you believe in conspiracy theories.

The NFL manages the comms. The Steelers have had similar issues at Heinz Field as mentioned by PFT. Tomlin has tried to trip opposing players during a game. Somehow when other teams do things like that on camera, they get a pass, but the most wild accusations against the Patriots are believed by the unwashed masses.

After the ESPN and SI articles this week, do you really believe that the Patriots could or would deliberately mess up the comms on the national season opener on national TV? Let’s not even bother about the fact that the NFL runs the system and both teams were affected.

People need to use common sense.

  165. Hmm — maybe we can get Rodney Harrison to do another sit-down where he blindly defends everything the Pats have ever done in the history of the franchise again. It’s been a whole five minutes since he did his last one.

  166. garglebargle, I get calling the team “us” and “we”, but you seriously consider yourself as having won a championship? Wow… that’s really very sad, in a pathetic loser sort of way.

It was the headset that forced the Steelers to play ten yards off of Gronk.
    ——
Or…..the lack of communication due to headset issue didn’t allow the defense to get their call in on time.

At this point, it’s hard to give the Patriots any benefit of the doubt.
    ————————-
If any team needs communication to know that you have to guard Gronk….they shouldn’t be in the NFL.

  168. people that think this is some conspiracy by the patriots are hilarious. just google “headset communication issues nfl”. this is a widespread and common issue across the entire league. considering the NFL provides the equipment and controls the frequencies, it looks more like an incompetence issue than some grand conspiracy by the patriots and no one else.

  170. What Pat fans are failing to comprehend is that, it doesn’t matter if the cheating affected the outcome of the game, its the fact that they were cheating and it COULD have affected the outcome. Also, the Pats won by 7, the headset problems were in the first half. Maybe without headset problems the Steelers score a TD instead of missing a field goal.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and right now there’s so much smoke around the Patriots its becoming very obvious. Well obvious to everyone non-Pats fan that doesn’t have their head stuck underground chanting “We are so great! Everyone else is just jealous! Greatest ever!”

  172. Electrical engineer here. The “stadium power infrastructure issue” is a ruse. The only thing that is going to cause interference on the headset frequencies are other broadcasts that are leaking into those frequencies. The Gillette stadium crew must know the range of frequencies that the NFL-provided headsets are operating on, so they can set any of their other radio communications (e.g. ground crew, safety security, TV crew, etc) to avoid those frequencies. It is NOT outside the realm of possibility that whoever is managing/controlling Gillette’s frequency usage could turn a knob on their control panel that would cause other radio traffic to bleed into the headset frequencies.

    ____________

Because the other teams are not that good. They don’t win championships and their owners are egotistical billionaires who cannot understand why after spending hundreds of millions of dollars on coaching, infrastructure, drafting high, and paying players they still can’t win. Thats’ why.

    ________________________________

Apparently, you did. In 2009, they were fined for preparing the kicking balls with unapproved equipment. Even though the NFL said that they were doing it to gain a competitive advantage, the kicker, Feely, was never investigated and wasn’t suspended.

  180. The Steelers lost due to poor coaching and poor execution, but that does not make the Pats any less cheaters. As it is said, “where there is smoke there is fire” and with the Pats there is always a lot of smoke. We live in an age where nobody accepts responsibility for their own actions and the Pats are a great example of that in professional sports. I can deal with all the crap from the Pats and their fans in knowing that all these championships will forever be tainted in history. Nice 7 point win against a poor team.

  181. Was it cheating when the same thing happened at the Steelers stadium when they played against the Jets in 2011? The Jets didn’t whine about it or use it as an excuse for losing……imagine that–the Jets have more class and are better sports than the Steelers.

  182. I blame Tomlin, how do you go into a game with the Pats and not have a game plan for when the headsets go down….You have to be prepared, they should have gone hurry up and let Ben call the plays on the field and this should have been practiced over the summer…..if it worked those headsets would have been working within the 2nd first down…..

    ———–
The Jets have a long history of cheating themselves. Even accusations that are very similar to the Patriots. Main difference is NOBODY cares. Here are some since the last decade:

    – Spygate: Mangini was accused of spying on the patriots during 2006, a year before the actual memo came out saying it was illegal, so you get a pass. But they were accused of the same practice none-the-less.

    – Sidelinegate: coaches and players lining up to trip players running down the sideline. Found guilty.

    – Deflategate: ball boy was deflating kicking balls to help the kicker. Guilty, ball boy was suspended, nothing happened to the kicker.

    – Tampergate: see Revis incident. Found guilty, organization was fined only 100k.

Guess, you really are a Jets fan.

  186. Blah, Blah, Blah, go Pats! History will judge them for what they are and the Steelers still have more championships, done without cheating.

It doesn’t matter who provided the headsets and who maintains the equipment. The headsets run off a set frequency. Someone in that stadium is determining the frequency that the opposing coaches headsets are running on and is causing interference on that frequency————————————————————————————–
That’s the truth. I filed my complaint to The FCC right after the game.

  189. “I do not believe that the solution to our problem is simply to elect the right people. The important thing is to establish a political climate of opinion which will make it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing. Unless it is politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing, the right people will not do the right thing either, or if they try, they will shortly be out of office.” – Milton Friedman

This is a quote by Milton Friedman and was about politics, but can easily be applied to the rule bending/cheating that seem to be going on everywhere in the NFL.

Patriots fans say their team doesn’t cheat. My response to that at this point would be to say…Why in the world wouldn’t they cheat? They are too smart NOT to cheat. What they have learned is there is no punishment for cheating so you my as well do it.

If the rest of the NFL doesn’t start to cheat at the same rate as the Patriots, they are stupid because there is no punishment for cheating. When there is no punishment for political corruption, politics become corrupt. When there is no punishment for a professional team cheating, the league they are involved in ultimately becomes corrupt and that is where the NFL is going. The rarely reported stories about the NFL involve what a bunch of sleazebags there are in ownership positions.

I’ll make it very simple for those who don’t understand Milton Friedman. Do you want your child to play with good kids or bad kids? When a good kid plays with a bad kid, is the good kid more likely to become bad or the bad kid become good? The good kid almost always becomes bad because it is easier to not follow rules than to follow rules. The rest of the NFL needs to become like the bad kid, the Patriots.

Cheating and bending rules has become the only way to win in the NFL. Everyone has to do it now. I’m looking forward to seeing how the people who actually care about the integrity of the league try to force all of this back into the bottle. My guess it will be like stuffing 10 pound of poop into a 5 pound bag. It will be impossible.

  190. You are better than this Tomlin.

You are better than this Steelers fans.

Then again with rampant steroid use in your past, interfering with on field communications to beat the Jets in the 2011 AFC Championship, your coach entering the field of play and interfering with live game action… maybe you aren’t better than this.

  195. The funny thing is the Patriots probably did nothing wrong here. But their legacy is forever tainted. They will always have an asterisk next to their name in the minds of many, many fans. This is what happens when you openly push each rule to the limit.

Having said that (and noting how much I hate their organization), man, they looked impressive. Not sure I’ve seen them come out of the gate like that. Maybe we’ll have an Eagles-Pats rematch!

  196. Every team is now off the hook for their play against New England. Chalk it up as a loss, blame cheating, continue to be a lousy team.

When did Tomlin become such a bitch?

  197. Electrical Engineer here (my specialty is building design, not RF systems however).

This was likely a grounding issue resulting in a slightly “out of tune” signal causing the nearby Patriots radio broadcast to leak into the communications channel. It’s the same thing that happens when you’re listening to your favorite radio station during a road trip and it starts to cut out – meanwhile, you also start to get interference from new radio stations as you get closer to new locales. Eventually, the old station will be cut off altogether, and the new station will come in clear.

This happens as your receiver (car radio) gets further away from the transmitter (radio tower). As the distance increases, your “respect to ground” also changes. Likewise, as you get closer to new radio towers, you pick those radio signals up more accurately as your “respect to ground” gets more inline with the tower’s ground.

Additionally, the NFL likely determines the frequency of the channel that the radio waves travel on (based on the RF spectrum determined by the FCC – many frequencies are reserved for military and other similar applications), so tampering is highly unlikely.

  198. Let’s say the patriots are innocent. Patriot fans ask yourself why aren’t any of the other 30 something teams ever accused? Why is it always this team?
Why not indeed? In the middle of a Super Bowl with the Ravens getting soundly thrashed the electricity in the stadium goes out. When the game resumes, the Ravens somehow mysteriously turn into a totally different team and stage a miraculous comeback and win. Why were they not suspected of being behind this?

  199. Another Bad year to be a fan of the “Lower 31”. At least fans of other teams know that their place is to make stuff up rather than actually root for their team or be gracious losers.

  200. Everyone is saying there couldn’t be an issue because the league provides the headsets. Yes, the headsets don’t need to have anything to do with the issue. Interference is sent over the frequency those headsets are using, from another place, without having to touch those headsets.

  201. GUYS!

I have an inside source in Foxborough and I know what REALLY happened last night. The truth is a bombshell that the NFL is trying to cover up because it would rock the foundations of the league if it got out.

What you DO know is that the NE Patriots employ evil wizards who use black magic to change electrical fields inside Foxborough to interfere with opponents’ headsets. This is common knowledge around the league and can not be disputed. What you DON’T yet know is that these wizards only used the home radio broadcast for cover while they made their headsets connect to a direct line for Bill Belichick to call in Pittsburgh’s plays.

Do you remember the first drive? My source was standing near Belichick and he confirms that at the most crucial part of the drive, Belichick made sure nobody was looking and grabbed a special microphone that ran directly into Pittsburgh’s coach to coach headsets. Then, using his best Mike Tomlin voice he shouted “OMG RUN THE MOST MICKEY MOUSE TRICK PLAY WE HAVE”, and then smugly put the microphone away while spitting on an NFL logo on the ground. And then they just laughed and laughed and laughed 🙁

  202. I am so tired of reading all this bickering BS all the time!! I realize that it will probably never stop and normally I would not bother posting, but here is my opinion on this matter: if the Patriots were cheating, it’s over and done with (unless they investigate and find proof….which could prove completely pointless once again). However, being a loyal Steelers fan for a very long time, there are areas that definitely need work. What really gets me though is that many of the Patriot fans who have been posting are making it appear that the Steelers never beat the Patriots….hmmm, on 11/30/2008 at Gillette Stadium, the Steelers beat the Patriots 33 to 10, and on 10/30/2011, the Steelers beat the Patriots 25-17 at Heinz Field. This proves that they can beat the “almighty” Patriots even though the Patriots have won more than they have lost. Therefore, it is how the players perform that decides the outcome of the games. There have been many underrated teams with losing records that have beaten better teams with winning records. The Steelers lost…time to move on to the next game.

    ——————-
The encryption has nothing to do with frequency interference, a faulty ground or a power surge can cause static or interference from another signal. Your cordless phone is encrypted, it gets interference all the time.

That proves absolutely nothing. If your coaches are in the same room that leads one to believe they are indoors. Outdoors in the rain, with outside interference is a whole different thing–not that it would prove anything if last night was indoors. It simply means you don’t have the same issues. Or were they cheating at Heinz when the same thing happened there? Or in every other stadium because this has happened in every venue.

  211. A source with knowledge of the NFL’s reaction said Friday morning that when the league determined Pittsburgh’s communications were down, it was in the process of shutting down the Patriots’ headsets when the problem was resolved. The problem resurfaced briefly, but was then resolved and did not reoccur.
An unnamed source is saying that the Steelers will be filing a complaint –regardless of the above…..
Ladies and gentelmen, we are pleased to announce the newest member of the cringing whiners when they lose club–I give you the Pittsburgh Steelers. (ps–the Pittsburgh players don’t deserve this, this is purely the coaches.)

  212. Tomlin…Name sounds familiar… OH! Aint that the Coach who stuck his foot out on the field to slow down Jacoby Jones from running a kickoff back for a TD?

  213. Really? I heard Tomlin get short with the media telling them, can we talk about the game? He didn’t like it when a person from the media told him “you said it happens all the time” The media has an agenda and sound like a bunch of old women.

I’d put my money on ground current causing the leak-in.

  215. This is what happens when you get caught cheating! It takes a long time to build credibility and an instant to destroy it. Once your credibility is gone, you’re open to all kinds of suspicion and accusations. The Patriots made their bed and now they have to suffer the consequences!

  216. “Strangely enough, whenever an NFL representative proceeded to the New England sideline to shut down their headsets, the Steelers headsets cleared. Then as the representative walked away from the New England sideline, the Steelers’ headsets again started to receive the Patriots game broadcast.”
    ——————————-

    Wow. What a coincidence….

  217. Word is that Belichick had one of his low level staffers enroll in the Hogwarts School of Wizardry and, while there, the staffer was able to steal an invisibility cloak which he promptly Fedexed (overnight) to Foxborough. Once it arrived Belichick had the seamstresses in the uniform department use it to make a Rob Gronkowski jersey which he then would periodically change into during the course of the game. This would explain how he was able to get so wide open as often as he did, since there is no possible way he could have gotten past the vaunted Steel Curtain defense.

    It all makes perfect sense.

  218. Steelers were just upset because the booth couldn’t tell Tomlin when the right time was to go on the field and trip an opposing player….

  219. No Points on either side was scored during the period of communication interruption. Points weren’t scored until the second quarter. So how did the Pats benefit?

  220. it’s funny how the technical issues happened right as the steelers started to gain momentum and then all of a sudden they were making stupid plays on the field because they weren’t hearing the proper calls.

The patriots aren’t stupid they been cheating for a long time and they know a missed play here and a missed call by the ref at the right time is just enough to help then win without being overly suspicious.

If the league really wants to stop them they will have to monitor them night and day to make sure they’re following every letter of the law because they didn’t get to win 4 Super Bowl’s by being stupid.

  221. “Strangely enough, whenever an NFL representative proceeded to the New England sideline to shut down their headsets, the Steelers headsets cleared. Then as the representative walked away from the New England sideline, the Steelers’ headsets again started to receive the Patriots game broadcast.”

Because, you see, the Patriots are such masterful cheaters that, on the one night where EVERYONE is watching and you absolutely CANNOT get caught doing something, they were completely obvious in their obstruction of their opponent’s communications systems.

    Contradictory logic much?

  222. “Electrical engineer here. The “stadium power infrastructure issue” is a ruse. The only thing that is going to cause interference on the headset frequencies are other broadcasts that are leaking into those frequencies.”

You must not have much experience in digital communications and RF systems… pray tell: what would happen if the transmitter and receiver don’t share a common ground?

What would happen if the power infrastructure had a ground leakage issue? Or a power surge?…

What’s your EE specialty? Mine is building infrastructure; I’m not a P.E., but I did pass my FEE and will take the P.E. examination when I’m eligible next year.

  223. Bill spends zero time ensuring that communications problems are resolved. The Gilette staff is wink-wink think it is working fine. Bellicheck has the only workaround, the other 31 teams will have to spend time hard-wiring their communications in Gillette. The Patriots are such poor sports. They set such a bad example for kids and what sports is supposed to be.

  224. Mike Tomlin is overrated –he got a ring –Thanks to Cowher’s team!
Nobody will call him out for his outrageous accusation because the agenda of the liberal sports media!
For the Rooneys to do this – it is a shame! Rooneys lost a lot of respect today!

  225. So, are you saying that since the NFL supplies the headsets, they can’t be interfered with?

  226. Is intermittent failure the same as blasting the local broadcast for 14 minutes straight…only to stop upon approach by an official…and then restart?

Is one instance of intermittent failure the same as a plethora of similar complaints from different parties, over several years?

Not sure I see the connection.

What’s that story about Flutie picking up Brady’s helmet about again?…hehe

  227. I was hoping both teams would lose!! That being said, I used to respect Tom Brady and the Patriots. But, you live and die with the reputation you create. The Patriots have been caught cheating (at worst) and/or bending the rules (at best). Pats fans will scream that it’s only because they win that people hate them. Not true. I respected them when I thought they were winning legitimately. They are dead to me now.

  228. Long time Steelers Fan here. First, the damn headseats wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the game. Personally I felt that Belichick did a great game plan. How do you attack a young new defense? You go hurry up offense and spread them out. Our Steelers haven’t figured out yet where the hell to line up yet after 5 preseason games. You can’t make excuses for that or the arm tackling was atrocious.
The defense is absolutely going to get better.

Offensively, there was terrible clock management by the coaching staff of the Steelers and some really bad calls. Why run a reverse pass after marching down the field on a short field when the Pats are in cover 2? Even if you fake out the short DB, the safety is to far back to bite. That stated, if Heyward Bey can figure out how big the end zone is, like the line that you can land a cesna on, we get 7 points. Or one of the best kickers in a decade misses two field goals, you have a different outcome despite the terrible defense.

I personally would have put Ryan Shazier all over Gronkowski the entire game. He is as big and alot faster. Gronk would have done ok but nothing like he did. Put Spence or Williams in the middle with Timmons. We did that with Troy Polamalu every year we played San Diego against Antonio Gates and shut him out.

Steeler fans need to chill. We are going to be real tough this year. Last year we started out 0-4 and ended up 11-5 and this team is better than last.

We have had a top 10 defense for 10 years. #1 D for two and top 5 for five of those 10. You can’t have it every year it’s going to take some time to get it back.

Congrats to the Pats. Well done.

You don’t need to have control of the headsets to mess with radio frequencies.

    ——————
And you don’t need to mess with radio frequencies to have bleed into headsets. It happens. It happened to the Steelers at Heinz stadium. The LA times had an article not long ago about how often the NFL has headset problems…..but all the other teams get a bye….ah, but the Patriots….they DID it!!!

Don’t take this the wrong way; but I love youl

  231. LOL! Keeping it real brother. Anyone that doesn’t appreciate how good Brady and Belichik are regardless of your team isn’t a football purist.

  232. The Patriots had no incentive to cheat. The last thing they want is another scandal right now.

The NFL, however, may easily still be bitter about Judge Berman’s decision.

So the NFL, which is in charge of the headsets, have every reason to try to embarrass the Patriots. And the Patriot haters jump right in and say “gotcha again!” even though it’s likely the Patriots are totally innocent here.

If you look at “who benefits?”, it’s easy to conclude that the NFL caused this, not the Patriots.

  233. Maybe if they go back to the wired headsets this wouldn’t happen. On the other hand, maybe this is a way to try some cheap shots at the Pats to discredit them, since all other efforts have failed. It’s just as likely that the system worked just fine, but that the complaints were fake. Just saying, as it was clear that the league had nothing against Brady for the past 7 months. Will be interesting to see what other manufactured cheating allegations will arise this year.

One observation though, I had no idea that Gronk was THAT big! In comparison to the Steelers’ defenders, he seemed to be about 7 feet tall. Being a full head above the defenders gives a guy like Gronk a definite advantage. The only way to defend him is to make sure Brady can’t get the ball to him. And we know that didn’t happen.

  234. NFL investigating Steelers assistant for allegedly assaulting Patriots fan

This happened in front of witnesses the guy kicked a Pats fan and yelled at him. When he got back to the Steelers Coaches room, the cops and NFL security were waiting for him—-so he started yelling at the cops…

This won’t create a furor. They’ll say it wasn’t a competitive act……bull dingies. This is worse; but, we all know that it won’t be an internet fury…..because he didn’t work for the Pats.

  235. Listen if more then one person or in this case franchise has reason to believe the Pats are doing something wrong then they are doing something wrong. Its not about sore losing or jealousy its just straight up reality and 31 teams are finally growing balls to say something. I hope as a fan of the game they over turn this appeal and suspend this bum in December..

  236. How about some creativity with naming these controversies? Stop adding “gate” to the end of everything.

  237. “The NFL released a statement Friday morning explaining that coaches’ communications equipment, including the headsets, is provided by the NFL for both teams’ use on game day, but that the home team “is responsible for the installation and maintenance of that equipment.”

Seems like plenty of room for conspiracy theories here. Fire away!

  238. Plain and simple… New England CHEATS…PERIOD….END OF STORY. …THAT IS THE WAY IT IS AND THE WAY IT WILL BE UNTIL BOB KRAFT SELLS THE TEAM AND BELICHEAT STOPS COACHING…TO U NEW ENGLAND FANS THAT DONT BELIEVE IN WHAT YOUR TEAM DOES ITS O.K. WE DONT BLAME U FOR SUPPORTING THEM.. JUST STOP PRETENDING THEY DONT DO IT.

  239. rdubbz: I don’t doubt that Shazier is faster than Gronkowski, but he is not as big. Gronk is 6’6″, 265. Shazier is 6’1″, 230.

  240. The team is suppose to get the officials attention and tell them of the problem right away, not at the end of the game. By reporting the problem, the opposing team has to turn their headset off until the problem is solved. Either Tomlin knew they would get beat and used it as an excuse or he is that dumb.

  241. How many times are we going to have to hear people saying that whatever infraction the Pats are accused of didn’t effect the outcome of the game?

We hear the taping didn’t really help the Pats.

Then we hear that the deflated balls didn’t help bet the Colts.

Then we have to hear that the communication issues that everyone has in Gillette Stadium didn’t help the Pats beat the Steelers.

I mean, if we are continuing to hear that New England was cheating, then there is a problem there.

If the league doesn’t want half of the world population saying that the NFL is fixed and is becoming like pro wrestling… then they need to punish New England enough where they finally stop cheating every year.

  242. When the NFL says the Pats have nothing to do with it that should be an end to it. The morons don’t care about facts or truth, they just want to spew ignorant hatred.

  243. When did the Steelers and their fans turn into the Colts?

The black and gold used to represent hard nosed, though, physical defensive play and a stout running game, now they have no D, use the run and shoot and whine even more than Grigson.

Sad, sad state of affairs in Pittsburgh.

  244. I am surprised the Steelers have become so weak and whiny, but the best reason I read for the headset problem was that a concerned fan wanted Tomlin to listen to the New England Patriots radio broadcast so he would know that Gronkowski was wide open since his coaching staff was clueless.

  245. This is really easy, is not about the Pats, it is about little Mike looking for excuses, to disguise the reality of the game and how he did not have his team prepared for this game, missing field goals, missing touchdowns, defensive players completely sleeping on the field, a defense that can not stop my grandmother running down the field. Bad coaching, pure and simple. Now to prove the point they will be blown away again this week, they got SF. The part that I find mind blowing is how low can a coach go and a QB can go to cover their ineptitude with the fans, and some stupid fans that will believe it !
