Giants rookie Landon Collins wants Tony Romo to test him

Giants rookie safety Landon Collins will play his first NFL game against one of the best passing attacks in the league on Sunday night in Dallas, and he’s eager to prove himself.

Collins says that if Tony Romo and the Cowboys think they can exploit him because he’s a rookie, they’re going to be sorry.

“Tony Romo said he’s looking for key matchups,” Collins said. “If he’s going to look for key matchups, he’s going to pick on me. . . . I’m a rookie, but I mean, he comes towards my way, and he won’t be happy.”

Collins was an All-American safety at Alabama and doesn’t think the challenge in the NFL will be significantly greater than what he faced in college.

“We played in big bowl games, we played in games where it cost the most,” Collins said. “We played in games that can make or break a season. Same thing, only it’s the beginning of the season now. Not really nervous about it.”

Romo, Jason Witten and Dez Bryant may make Collins rethink his confidence tomorrow night.

  1. Didn’t guys on the Steelers say something similar regarding Gronk? Hope this turns out better than that did but I wouldn’t bet on it….

  2. This hearty Crimson Tide fan says, “Son, zip those lips. This is Sunday, and they’re all good here. This ain’t college, I don’t care if you played for Saban or not.
    Zip it. Play ball.”

  3. There’s nothing wrong with confidence. In fact for a defensive back it is a primary requirement of their make up. Talking about it on the other hand…

  4. I’m a cowboys fan, but all bias aside…..there’s still no denying Dez is one of the best in the league right now, and ALMOST EVERYONE in the NFL has played a bowl game and we’re All American, Heisman winners etc. I don’t deny his talent, but he will get embarrassed. Just glad our rookie defensive back keeps his mouth shut

  5. Within the 1st Q, probably in the Cowboy’s first possession, Landon Collins will get torched for a big play. It will be just one of many.

Word of advice: just shut up and play.

  6. The raw exuberance of NFL rookies who think because they played in college at a high level that the NFL isn’t the next level…..

Shut your mouth and hold on cause your first regular season NFL game is going to educate you more than four years of college games…..

  7. Collins hasn’t played one game and he’s already putting himself in the spotlight.

Both Collins (zero games played) and OBJ (six games played) are going to get a wake up call this year.

I’m a Giants’ fan but I’m not a fan of the yammering.

  8. Every year several Giant and former Giants players start talking trash before a Cowboys matchup. Last year the coach told his players to shutup.

  9. Comparing the job of receiver and defensive back: if the receiver makes a mistake, its 2nd and 10; but if the DB makes a mistake, it’s six points.

  10. Wait till you see this guy’s range and his physicality NFC East… Good to know he’s ready

As for Dez and Witten, your boys Prince and and JT got a handle on that… they’ll put up points, but not enough

  11. Got to watch Earl Thomas play his rookie year. One of the best safeties in football now but he got abused regularly by wiser and more experienced players. In most cases he was just trying to do too much.

I don’t know everything about football, Landon. But I know QBs can be very crafty. Romo has his fault’s but the guy can seriously sling the ball. He’ll beat you more times than you would like. Everyone has to learn the hard way I guess.

  12. I think Collins was way over rated coming out of Alabama. But the good thing about football is that it all gets settled on a field. I thought Collins was more like a fifth or 6th round talent. Perhaps I’m going to get an education. We’ll see. Either way, a guy’s career won’t be determined in one game, especially his first.

  13. Even if he gets burned, bet he lays someone out. It won’t be Dez because he doesn’t go over the middle against physical safeties.

  14. Cowboys will score their points. So will the Giants. Giants need to win the turnover battle on the road. We have all seen good and bad Tony & Eli. Eli is not undefeated in Dallas anymore and due for a big win. We shall see.

  15. It’s good the kid has confidence, hopefully his head can erase bad plays “getting beat often “.and learn , not let it affect his future .and distroy his carrier early.

  16. Collins didn’t learn that mouthiness at Alabama. Saban would have his head for saying something like that in the media prior to a game. Great player. But as Bear used to say, act like you’ve been there before.

Even if he gets burned, bet he lays someone out. It won’t be Dez because he doesn’t go over the middle against physical safeties.

Obviously you don’t watch Dez and The Cowboys much. At least once a game Dez catches a pass on a crossing pattern, breaks 3-4 tackles and gets 30+ yrds. And 25% of the time he takes them to the house.

  18. If he’s worrying about Romo he’s worrying about the wrong guy. #88 is your man. If the ball is thrown in his direction, he’s going to catch it. Now figure out how to tackle him. That’s what I thought.

  19. I feel very comfortable with Prince on Dez the reason for this is i watched prince shut Dez down in 2013 the only time Dez had a catch is when Antrel Rolle was on him. This love for Dez is a little misguided he has had two good season after having a very mediocre 3 seasons. Beckham came out the gate swinging similar to Randy Moss to me there is not comparison between Dez and Odell because Odell is naturally better.

  20. The young man is in for a rude awakening. You ain’t playing against quarterbacks like Greg Hankerson from Florida Atlantic anymore.

  21. Last three seasons the Giants have led the league in players with player who talk but can’t deliver, and non-playoff appearances. Get ready to add another season to that list.

  22. Dude is comparing bowl games in college to the NFL. Just because the transition to the league is seamless for some doesn’t mean it will be that way for you. ODB, AJ Green, Randy Moss, Anquan Boldin, those guys are rare. Landon may be a great player someday but I doubt he is great from the start and he would do well to shut up and just focus on the game rather than trash talk the team that has whooped your team’s butt the past 4 games.

  23. Swept these bums 2 straight years, so now their rookies are talking trash?? Hahahahhaha! At least the vets have learned their lessons.

    America’s Team 34
    Little Giants 20

  24. Cowboys and their fans are full of themselves. No repeat nFC east champs since birds did in 2003-2004. And 1995 was a long time ago.

  25. I’m a Giants fan and this is just … well … stupid. People seem to think Romo stinks. He’s one of the top 5 highest rated QBs of all time. Witten is on his way to Canton. Dez scores TDs at one of the highest rates of all time as well.

Careful what you wish for rookie. When Dez is on his way to a 65 yard TD after double moving Collins this is going to look even worse.

  26. The Giants sure like to talk a lot right before they get their behinds handed to them. Same thing happened last year before the played the Eagles. This kid Collins is going to learn the hard way.

  27. Lol Romo is top 5 and will prove it again this year. The cowboys have swept the giants two seasons in a row and will beat the tar out of them Sunday night as well. Just watch how improved the Dallas pass rush will be.

  28. I am sure Tom C has had a chat with the rok and he will not be speaking to the press again for a few weeks

  29. I am by no means a Romo fan but I’d be careful if I was this guy. ALL corners get beat every once and awhile, even the greats like Revis and Sherman. With that said, Tony uts up great numbers and when healthy can take the top off. Corner in the NFL is a close second to QB when it comes to difficulty. Be careful young man.

Be careful what you ask for rookie. JPP said “There will be blood” a couple of years ago. How’d that turn out for the G men?
…………………………………………………………………………It turned out that the Cowboys won by 3 points and only because Antrel Rolle had to cover Dez on the last drive. Meanwhile 5’8 Trumaine Mcbride shut Dez down for 57 minutes.

I remember when Cardale Jones challenged him and then hit the truck stick and ran his butt over…

Cardale Jones is bigger than everyone on the Cowboys offense not named “lineman”. Lets see Romo try that and he will be in the bowels of the stadium hooked up to an IV.

  32. well, he got tested.. twice for touchdowns.. ima giant guy, but dude, do something before you beg to get tested. you looked silly on the first TD, you didnt hustle across the formation and gave whitten an easy TD..
