Jets rookie linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin was taken to a local hospital Sunday afternoon after suffering head and neck injuries in the second half of the Jets’ season opener vs. the Browns.

Mauldin was placed on a spinal board and carted off the field. The team said he was taken to the hospital for further testing.

I am very worried about him,” Jets coach Todd Bowles said after the game.

It appeared Mauldin was struck in the head during a fumble return. He got up after the play and then collapsed to the turf before team medical staff attended to him. He was down on the field for five minutes before he was taken to a waiting ambulance.

Mauldin is a third-round pick out of Louisville.
