NFL has requested meeting with accused Deflategate employees

AP

The next step in the Patriots’ quest to have accused Deflategate participants John Jastremski and Jim McNally reinstated could be a meeting with NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent, NFL Network reported Sunday.

Sources told NFL Network that Jastremski, an equipment staffer, and McNally, a locker room attendant, face discipline for their role in the apparent deflation of footballs.

The Patriots made a formal request for their reinstatement last week, which the league acknowledged and is reviewing. A meeting with Vincent has long been said to be a step in the process of ending the suspensions that started in May.

Both men were cited in the Wells report as being involved in tampering with footballs, and the report said league officials believe the men should be held accountable. Their texts and appearance on surveillance video were prominent in the Wells report.

  1. Now I get why the nfl denied telling the Pats to suspend those guys. They want to double dip on punishing them. Apparently being out of work for months with no proof of wrong doing isn’t enough. Nfl needs scalps.

  2. Roger Goodell said the NFL didn’t suspend Jastremski and McNally so why would the Patriots need their permission to re-instate them?

Can’t the NFL get at least one story straight?

  3. So…..the nfl is requiring these guys to meet with them before they are reinstated after Goodel swore that the nfl never requested they be suspended. And it wasn’t just a league statement Goodel specifically said the league didn’t have anything to do with the suspensions just a couple of weeks ago to try to make it seem the pats were punishing them on their own to make them look bad.

Their lawyers and the pats should make sure the guys are wired to get evidence of the next phase of the smear campaign that is surely coming.

  4. Might as well bust out the lie detector kit and find out if they’ve been planting bugs and stealing play sheets from the opponents locker rooms at Gillette while your at it Troy. I’m just sayin…

  5. Of course they want a meeting, so they can then try to save face by spreading more lies and innuendos.

It’s over, patriots need to say eff you league, I dare you to not reinstate them.

  6. Since the league has ‘fixed’ the air pressure in the balls, TB12 has played 10 quarters of football…let’s see how he’s done:

    -10 TDs (1 per quarter!)
    -3 wins, no losses
    -1 AFC championship
    -1 SB championship
    -128.2 passer rating

I’m thinking maybe nothing has changed…LOL talk about a whoops moment for the haters…

  7. Mcnally is a part time employee working 10 games a year for what? 100 bucks a game? he should not bother with FIFA aka THE NFL Jastremski is a full time employee and should meet with them to get his job back.

  8. What questions can the NFL ask Jastremski and McNally that they were not already asked during the Wells investigation?

  9. Of course they want to meet with them first – they need to all get their stories straight to make sure they don’t keep blaming Brady for what he obviously did and got away with it – again

  10. I understand people are tired of this storyline, but how interesting is it that the league could potentially be skewering these low level, low pay employees just to watch the 8 figure salary folk (who could potentially be the root) squirm while watching their money pile up?

The NFL…reality TV at its finest.

    Potentially…

  11. A meeting with Vincent? Let me guess how this might go.

Scenario #1 When asked if there was a scheme to deflate footballs, both JJ and JM deny that there was any such scheme. With the NFL committed to defending the Wells Report, the request for reinstatement is denied for failure to offer the sought after confession to a rules violation.

Scenario #2 When asked if there was a scheme to deflate footballs, both JJ and JM deny that there was any such scheme, and they offer to take a lie detector test to prove their innocence. Passing such a test would put the Wells Report conclusions in jeopardy (something the NFL can’t risk). So, request for lie detector test and reinstatement denied.

Scenario #3 When asked if there was a scheme to deflate footballs, both JJ and JM confess to conspiring to deflate footballs. Since the two employees are admitted rules violators, reinstatement denied to protect the integrity of the game.

  12. They’re currently suspended so they have already been punished but the NFL wants to punish to again?

    That’s double punishment.

  13. Why do employees that the NFL never ask to be suspended need to talk to Troy Vincent before they (i don’t know what you call someone that wasn’t suspended but needs to be reinstated) go back to work.

  14. Why do they need clearance from the NFL when the league claimed they weren’t the ones who suspended JM and JJ? Oh right, the NFL told another lie.

  15. These 2 should really have someone with them so as to not be intimidated and DEFINITELY record the conversation for their own protection.

  16. The witch hunt continues
When are the fines coming down on the Steelers for the way they ran there mouth about some radio issues?

  17. I don’t trust the Vincent, Goodell or any of the stooges at the league offices.

If I meet with those bozos, I would have a lawyer present.

  18. so, per Goodell, the Patriots employees were not suspended by the NFL, but, now said employees must meet with the NFL to be reinstated? Yeah, okay…..

  19. If the NFL allows them to return, then they have a problem with their ridiculous punishment of the Patriots and pending appeal with Brady. If the air deflation is related to the Ideal Gas Law, then bring these guys back and ALSO give the Patriots their 1st round draft pick back. If you believe these guys were involved in a scheme, don’t let them back. Too many people now believe that several NFL owners believe punishment to the Patriots over eight years ago was not enough and that forced an unfair prosecution of the Patriots and Tom Brady. The NFL made itself look stupid in the process and Judge Berman pretty much thought that as well. Unfortunately, Jastremski and McNally don’t have Jeffrey Kessler or the NFLPA behind them. They are collateral damage in a failed sting by Kensil.

  20. Seeing as how the NFL wanted Brady to admit he deflated the footballs and that trash of an investigation by Wells was correct in order to reduce his penalty I’m betting the league will attempt to get these gentlemen to admit they deflated footballs even though they have no proof. Soviet style justice is always welcome in the NFL.

  21. The fact that the NFL is still attempting to defend their fraud prosecution just shows how toxic the leadership of the NFL has become.

Nobel prize winner have shown how bad the Exponent science was, yet even the Exponent science PROVES conclusively that the all the footballs were either within expected PSI or so slightly below it was meaningless (.21 PSI). And that’s the BAD science. NOTHING HAPPENED. Yet the NFL keeps defending the undefendable Welles Report.

When is the braindead media going to start questioning the league office who is constantly moving the goal posts on this investigation. First they wanted you to believe that ball were deflated to gain a competitive advantage. When that blew up them moved on to Brady being “uncooperative” or “cellphonedestructiongate”. And then when it became clear that Brady did nothing wrong they have moved on to “its really about spygate-gate”.

What really needs to be done is an investigation to find out who the whining crybabies are in the league office who can’t understand why they can’t beat the Pats on the field and are looking for excuses.

You want to know why the Pats keep winning, just watch Do Your Job, and you see it is nothing but hard work, great coaching, and great players willing to sacrifice for the team.

  22. Why not hold off until an actual meeting takes place? They both have new jobs with Mr. Kraft’s soccer team. They may opt to not to go for a meeting. Remember, Brady’s lawyers have already made a public statement that if the balls were tampered with, JJ and JM were free lancing. Kraft also made sure he put his focus on Tom.

  23. This is a face saving effort for the league. If they let these guys back in after suspending them (And we ALL know that the league was behind their suspension and we ALL know that Roger “Perjury” Goodell has been coughing up bald-faced lies on that front) it would basically torpedo their appeal of the Brady ruling. My guess is that they will interview these two guys, McNally and Jastremski will give the same story that they did in the Wells interview (Which has been conveniently sealed by the league from prying eyes…Because hiding the truth is always good for Roger’s interpretation of “Integrity”), lie about the testimony in Vincent’s interview, seal the transcripts, and the league will make these two the official fall guys since they can’t get to Brady. I hope Jastremski and McNally sue Vincent and Goodell’s nuts off.

  24. If I were McNally or Jastremski, I would say, Thanks, Mr. Kraft, but no thanks. What can they say but repeat that they didn’t do anything? I wouldn’t take a meeting with an organization that has so dark an agenda and so many tricks up their sleeves.

I can see a scenario in which, like in any cop show on TV, each is interrogated in a separate room and told that the other is selling him out, hoping to get him to say something that can be twisted into some sort of admission of guilt. The NFL has shown it will stop at nothing to hurt the Patriots.

    Stay home, John and Jim!

imo more like a half truth. They weren’t NFL employees so technically the NFL couldn’t suspend them but obviously made the Pats suspend them.

also not convinced the Pats actually want them back(texts about messing with the balls- as in over inflating them and talk of stealing etc) but maybe just messing with the league

  26. So these guys weren’t stealing things or being scrupulous as pats fans ascertained. So what does that leave them as doing?….Hhhm just can’t place a hand with a needle on it.

  27. These guys are screwed because they don’t have any protections the players do. McNally met with the league several times, beginning with the night of the game when he said he didnt need a lawyer, didn’t need anyone from the team there to coach him. Then he had a 7 hour session with 4 of Ted Wells’ lawyers. There’s no rational explanation that more meetings could possibly be needed.

  28. Dumbdolphinfan, the problem with JM he has never told the same story twice. And JM an JJ bury Brady in regards to Brady knowing the ref’s process as well as Brady not knowing who JM was or what his job is. I seriously doubt that a meeting will take place. However, if one does take place, they may say they are guilty and let the NFL suspend them so many games. But they can’t get their old jobs back regardless

  29. here is the conversation that will happen:
Vincent: “Well u two we’ll be glad to let u back into the league. U did leave all your electronic devices at the door?”

John Jastremski and Jim McNally: “ahhhhh yes”
Vicent: “Good, we are gonna pat u down now just to be sure”
Vincent: “Well now that is over let’s get down to business. We will let you back as soon as you sign this statement acknowledging that Tom Brady knew about and was the coordinator of the deflated ball scheme often referred to as deflategate”

  32. Why do they “face discipline” if they’re so innocent?

“B-but I swear my name really DOES refer to losing weight. And that when I was threatening to blow the lid off this to ESPN it was about uh… free shoes. Honest, Scout’s honor!”

“I’ll remind you Mr. McNally you are under oath.”

“Uh, may I be excused to go to the bathroom. I think I just wet myself.”
