The Colts waived running back Boom Herron with an injury earlier this month and now another member of the backfield has met the same fate.
The NFL’s daily transactions report brings the news that the Colts have placed running back Vick Ballard on waivers. Ballard did not play in the season opener against the Bills because of a hamstring injury. If Ballard clears waivers, he reverts to injured reserve although he could also join Herron in accepting an injury settlement that makes him a free agent.
Ballard had a promising start to his career in Indianapolis when he ran for 814 yards and scored three touchdowns as a rookie in 2012, but injuries quickly sent things off track. Ballard tore his ACL in 2013, tore his Achilles last year and then hurt his hamstring this summer to keep him from building off that debut season.
The Colts now have rookies Josh Robinson and Tyler Varga backing up Frank Gore.
