Nose tackle Ishmaa’ily Kitchen will visit the Texans this week, a source with knowledge of the situation told PFT.

Kitchen, 27, was released by the Browns on Sept. 1. He made his first three career starts last season with the Browns and played in 12 games. At 334 pounds, he’s a true nose tackle.

Kitchen entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Kent State in 2012. He was signed by the Ravens then claimed by the Browns at the end of the preseason. He’s played in 40 career games.

The Texans list sixth-round rookie Christian Covington as the backup to starting nose tackle Vince Wilfork on their depth chart. There are currently just five defensive linemen on the Texans’ roster; the team cut 2014 draft pick Louis Nix III while trimming the preseason roster to the regular-season size of 53.

  1. Looks like he’s spent some time in the kitchen.

What I’m still trying to figure out after Sunday is how a team with as much defensive talent as the Texans gets owned by a QB like Alex Smith?

  2. Solid NT. I was surprised the Browns cut him. He’s not a starter, but I have to think he’s good enough to make a roster somewhere.

  3. Agree about the Guard comment. With one hurt, Brooks is the starting right guard and the back-up left guard and he was used on Sunday!! Priority is on the O-line!

Cause a QB like Smith is vastly underrated, if you don’t follow and just read media narratives. The whole no WR TD made it look like he didn’t throw one all 2014.

He was middle of the pack with no viable receivers, heck Bowe last years #1 is 3rd on the Browns depth chart and on the way out.

Its his first time being 3 years in a system, which is a QBs time to show their stuff. And actual weapons as well, Smith will be changing his career narrative this year. Wouldve been sooner had Kyle Williams not had 2 fumbles in the NFCCG.

  5. I really don’t get it. . .I don’t know anything really about NFL football. . .

But when you look at what we have numbers wise. . . our offensive line. . . .is really thin.

how does that happen. . . we had 90 guys . . . and we skimp on the most important element.
