The Saints and running back Tim Hightower came back together on Monday, but their reunion turned out to be even briefer than Hightower’s short first stint on the team.
Hightower was released on Tuesday with an injury waiver, which ended his stay with the team at somewhere short of 24 hours. Hightower has not played in a regular season game since the 2011 season because of knee problems, but was able to make the Saints’ initial 53-man roster.
He was cut before the first game, but brought back on Monday in what looked like a move designed to bring back a vested veteran without guaranteeing him his entire salary for the year. It’s not clear what was wrong with Hightower physically this week, but it seems something popped up since his first stay on the team came to an end.
The Saints also placed safety Rafael Bush on injured reserve. Bush tore his pectoral in the season opener and the team signed Kenny Phillips to take his spot on the roster.
