The status of Saints quarterback Drew Brees continues to be cloaked in mystery. Which could be good for the Saints, but bad for anyone who’s trying to figure out whether Brees will play at Carolina on Sunday.
In response to an NFL Media report that the Saints fear Brees will miss several games with a shoulder injury, coach Sean Payton said on WWL-AM in New Orleans, “I would say that report is inaccurate.”
Payton said that the team will know more about the status of the starting quarterback on Wednesday, which leaves the door open for Brees missing the game. And which meshes with PFT’s report from Monday evening that a decision on the quarterback’s status will be made later in the week.
It’s clear that Brees is injured; otherwise, there would be no question about his status on Wednesday or any other day. However, it’s not clear that he’ll miss one game, much less several. But it’s simply regarded for now as a shoulder bruise, and it’s too early to know whether it will keep Brees from playing.
