Pagano comment could easily be construed as shot at G.M., not Luck

Colts coach Chuck Pagano came down hard on quarterback Andrew Luck after last night’s turnover-filled loss to the Jets, which is reasonable.

But there was also a fairly clear shot in the direction of the front office as well.

When asked about Luck’s struggles getting the ball out and the state of the offensive line, Pagano said (via veteran Colts beat writer Mike Chappell): “Been the case for three years now, has it not? Should be more than comfortable dealing with (it).”

Translated, this has been an issue for some time and no one has addressed it. (Pagano apparently was decent enough not to cough into his arm while pointing in the general direction of the General Manager).

That adds some meat to the bones of reports of a rift between Pagano and Ryan Grigson, if the coach doesn’t think the star quarterback has a chance to make plays because of the talent assembled in front of him, and that a persistent area of roster weakness hasn’t been addressed for three years.

And that could be the kind of thing that is a worse sign for the organization than any one lost game or any five lost turnovers could be.
