UCLA’s Myles Jack, likely future first-round pick, out for season

AP

UCLA linebacker Myles Jack, a likely future first-round draft pick, has suffered a season-ending injury.

Jack suffered a “significant knee injury” in practice yesterday, and UCLA coach Jim Mora confirmed today that he won’t play again this year.

Now the question is whether Jack will play college football again at all. A junior, Jack could choose to return to UCLA next year, but he also may decide to enter the 2016 NFL draft. Jack is certainly ready to play in the NFL and might have been a first-round pick this year if not for the NFL’s rule requiring players to be out of high school at least three years before turning pro.

Jack, who sealed UCLA’s win over BYU on Saturday with an interception in the final minute, is a great athlete and physical tackler. He has also played some running back at UCLA, gaining 387 rushing yards in his college career, although he has always primarily been a linebacker, and that’s the position he projects to play in the NFL.

  1. As a fan of a rival team, I feel bad for the kid. Jack was a beast on the field. I’d rather we have to endure his presence on the field than him have such a devastating injury.

  2. More ammunition to support a high quality player sitting out his junior year rather than risking injury.

  3. Jack would have been at the very least a 2nd round pick if he was allowed to come out this year. Instead he had to risk multiple millions playing for room, board, and tuition when he would have been better off playing in the league. Everyone else, coaches, administration etc get their millions guaranteed even if the school fires them. Scam.

I think it will happen more. Lately, the talk has been how Fournette isn’t eligible for the next draft, and what he will do to stay healthy.

  5. That’s too dang bad. As a fan of no particular college team (but the college football game in general), he sure was fun to watch. A two way BEAST. Hope you heal well Myles, looking forward to seeing you on Sundays.
