Bears continue remodeling by waiving Brock Vereen

The Bears traded away two linebackers on Monday and the defensive changes kept coming on Tuesday.

The team announced that safety Brock Vereen has been waived from the 53-man roster. Vereen was a fourth-round pick last year and is the first member of the draft class to be dropped from the roster, although he’s not the first player drafted by former General Manager Phil Emery to lose his spot on the team this year. Linebacker Jon Bostic was traded to the Patriots and the Bears waived linebacker Khaseem Greene and tackle Jordan Mills as well.

Vereen started four games as a rookie, but has only played sparingly this season. That limited time was enough for him to be on the receiving end of a big block on Tyler Lockett’s kickoff return for a touchdown and in coverage on a Jimmy Graham touchdown catch in last Sunday’s loss. Vereen had 39 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble in 19 overall appearances for Chicago.

The Bears also signed a pair of former Jaguars on Tuesday. Safety Chris Prosinski and linebacker LaRoy Reynolds have been signed to round out a defense that probably has more changes to come as the new regime tries to set the Bears on a better path.
