Chargers could be without four offensive linemen

The Chargers took the practice field Friday without four offensive line starters.

That’s a problem.

Left tackle King Dunlap, left guard Orlando Franklin, center Chris Watt and right guard D.J. Fluker were all missing from the practice field Friday morning. After practice, the team ruled Franklin out and listed Dunlap and Watt as doubtful.

Fluker was listed as a limited participant Friday and will be listed as questionable for Sunday.

The Chargers earlier in the week signed veteran center J.D. Walton and promoted Tyreek Burwell from the practice squad, and the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Friday that the team will also promote tackle Michael Ola to address the current shortage of available players.

Per the Union-Tribune’s Kevin Acee, no quarterback has played behind more offensive line combinations than Philip Rivers over the past five seasons. Which five players are blocking for him Sunday remains to be seen and probably depends on which of the four starters can get healthy before Sunday.

The Browns list starting defensive end Desmond Bryant as out for Sunday’s game.
