Michael Bennett has a unique reason for disliking Matthew Stafford

AP

We pause from the ongoing coverage of whatever it is they’re going to call last night’s game-altering officiating blunder for a reminder to anyone who pays attention to football: Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett is one of the most fascinating characters in all of sports.

Two weeks ago, Michael’s brother, Martellus, scoffed at the notion that they’re crazy by explaining that he and Michael are normal and that everyone else is crazy. Michael shared some of that normalcy on Monday night after Seattle’s win over the Lions.

“I don’t like Matt Stafford that much,” Bennett said, via Curtis Crabtree of KJR and PFT. And then Michael gave the reason for his feeling.

“[H]e’s from Dallas and Dallas, they killed the President,” Bennett said. “It’s where JFK, one of the greatest Presidents, died at so I just have a little hatred towards him.”

Someone then asked whether Bennett indeed holds the November 1963 assassination of JFK, which happened nearly 25 years before Stafford was born, against him.

“I hold that against him,” Bennett said.

Bennett then talked about an injury he suffered during the game, but he found a way to bring it all back to Stafford.

“My leg hurt but I got up like a G. I feel good,” Bennett said. “But yeah, they killed JFK man, so that’s why I got a little hatred for him.”

Martellus Bennett actually began his career with the Dallas Cowboys. Fortunately for Martellus, neither he nor Michael expressed those views during the time Martellus lived and worked in Dallas. Although given their willingness to say whatever they want to say, it’s a surprise they didn’t.

Meanwhile, Michael will get the chance to expand on his feelings next month, when the Seahawks play the Cowboys. In Dallas.

  1. He didn’t mention it when his brother worked in Dallas because he just heard of it this week. The Bennett brothers have “reality TV show” written all over them after their NFL careers are over.

  2. There is probably a US veteran or 3 on every block in Dallas.

Many of which protected MB’s ability to use his free speech…

  3. Ahhhh yes the good ole classic Bennett. Demanding a new contract by day making his team look like idiots by night. George bush didn’t dk 9/11 it was George Washington and I don’t know about you guys but untill I get proof of obamas location during Pearl Harbor I wouldn’t put it passed him

I hope not, just what we need on tv to under educated fools trying to tell us why they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

  5. I can appreciate that sense of humor.

Let’s pump the brakes a little on the “greatest presidents” thing, JFK got us into Vietnam and was a serial womanizer.

It’s good though that he was in favor of civil rights when his own party was voting against the legislation.

  6. He is either joking, in which case he is somewhat amusing, or he is the largest idiot who ever set foot on this planet. I hate the Seahawks but for his sake and those around him I hope it is the former.

  7. Michael Bennett is suffering from diarrhea of the mouth. Just an incredibly stupid comment.

  8. That stupid statement stands on its own. Michael Bennett needs an award for stupidity. I suppose he will blame New York City for 9/11. Oswald was from New Orleans. Don’t tell that to Bennett. He’ll find more reasons to hate even more people.

  9. Amazing the number of people on here that don’t understand humor. It’s silly. Anyone on here that seriously believes that MB hates Stafford because of Dallas needs their head checked for CTE.

Looks like the wonderful readership of PFT are doing what they can to make the YouTube comments section look intelligent.

  10. There are plenty of valid reasons to hate Dallas as anyone who has ever been there can attest, but that’s just stupid.

  11. And Eagles HC Chip Kelly was born on November 25, 1963, the day JFK was laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery amid JFK, Jr’s salute to his own did, our former U.S. President — so I would suppose that Bennett doesn’t like Chip Kelly either then, via Bennett’s own reasoning, yes? lol

  12. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt when questioning them as a person. Michael Bennett is not one of those people.

  13. I can relate. I hate everybody in Seattle because they benefitted from the replacement refs’ poor call against the Packers.

  14. Okay, Lee Harvey Oswald was born in New Orleans, so I guess Bennet has a little hate in his heart for Drew Brees too.

Oh, and Lincoln was killed in DC, so Kirk Cousins is on the list. And John Wilkes Booth was killed in Maryland, so I guess Joe Flacco is going to take some heat as well.

  15. Either the Bennett Brothers are certifiable, or they are marketing geniuses. Not sure which just yet.

  16. I prefer good old “everyone else is robots” crazy. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go 10010101000101110101 the missus.

  17. I think someone has been stealing too much of Uncle Pete’s juices, you know, those juices that transform a bunch of fifth rounders into an elite defense…

  18. There it is the most stupid thing I’ll read all day and its only 9 am. What an idiot this guy is

  19. That is supremely dumb. I mean on George W. Bush, “You fool me once,” kind of dumb. Whatever you have to do to psyche yourself up, though. I wonder how many athletes are just like, “You know what? Eff the media. I’m going to say the craziest thing that pops in my head. Watch they print it anyway.”

I’m hoping that’s the case. Please let that be the case. That would be like hating country music because it is big in Memphis and MLK was killed in Memphis. smh

  20. I’m pretty certain that he also believes J.F.K was his name and not his initials. Wow…

  21. For all those who commented that M.B. was just joking or messing with our minds and did not really mean what he said, we now have Carte Blanche to say stupid and outrageous things. All you have to do, if you are confronted is say “hey man, didn’t mean nothing by it. That’s just how we talk in the ‘hood.”

  22. “Amazing the number of people on here that don’t understand humor.”

I understand humor. I just prefer SMART humor. This isn’t.

  23. Why is it absurd. You hold a term that was used by Indians to describe the war paint they use to wear against a team even though the term has not been used disparagingly in more than 50 years since you were born.

  24. Could he just be pulling all of your legs?

He is, but the joke’s not so funny when the crowd is too stupid to understand it.

  25. “Amazing the number of people on here that don’t understand humor.”

I understand humor. I just prefer SMART humor. This isn’t.

Not saying anything about the quality of it! Just stunned by the sheer numbers of people that actually think he’s serious about this. I actually feel dumber for having read most of the comments here.

  26. This guy is an idiot!! Every time he opens his mouth something dumb comes out. This is why you never should have an athlete be a role model. We need to stop interviewing and publishing junk like this and giving them any more attention than they already get. 24 hour coverage of sports, news is part of what is wrong with this society. These reporters just talk to fill up space. Give me a 1/2 hour or an hour of news and then just be done.

  27. Hey, how many players on the field actually knew JFK was assassinated in Dallas? Specifically by his own government. Ray Lewis thinks the government got off easy on this one.

  28. Instead of blaming the residents or subsequent newborns from Dallas, I suggest Mr. Bennett study the subject in depth to assign blame where it is due. There is no humor in his statement.

The JFK Debate section of the Education Forum is an excellent resource for those that wish to expand their knowledge.

Bennett might even start to hate himself. Oswald was from New Orleans, and Bennett himself was born in Avondale (part of the New Orleans Metropolitan area).
