Report: Hasselbeck still sick, “hoping” he can play four quarters

AP

Stacy Dales of the NFL Network reports that Matt Hasselbeck is still fighting a bacterial infection for which he was hospitalized earlier in the week.

That’s a problem. With Andrew Luck out again due to a shoulder injury, Hasselbeck is again starting at quarterback for the Colts against the Texans on Thursday Night Football.

Dales tweeted that Hasselbeck is on antibiotics and hoping he can play four quarters. He doesn’t have much choice; the only other quarterback on the roster is Josh Johnson, who was signed last week because of Luck’s injury, released earlier this week then brought back as the Colts discovered Luck would probably miss his second game.

Luck is among the seven players the Colts made inactive for the game.

The Texans have a quarterback issue of their own with Ryan Mallett having been benched last week with the team down 42-0. Mallett is starting again, but Brian Hoyer will stay ready in a game the Texans need to win Thursday night. It’s a game that’s suddenly really interesting with Luck out again and Hasselbeck ailing.

  2. I hope Hasselback conks out in the 1st quarter and the Colts get crushed 55 to zip. But then, I’m a Patriots fan.

Is Josh Johnson really the best FA QB that GM Grigson could sign once he realized that Luck had a serious shoulder injury two weeks ago?

Peyton Manning ain’t walking thru that door folks…

    Wow!
So you Colts’ fans are cool with the “Participation” banner?
I was wondering if the fans and Colts’ players actually liked the banner, or were embarrassed by it.
That mentality sure does explain your soft, crappy team.
I can’t imagine not being absolutely embarrassed by playing under that thing!
Every time they look up, it says, “LOSER”.

    Judgement day is coming!!!!!

  5. Shouldn’t it be DeAndre Hopkins’ job to catch the ball, and Arian Foster’s job to run the ball? A perfectly thrown pass that pops up because Foster doesn’t catch with his hands: he catches the ball with his forearms lol

Not saying I’m proud of the banner, but I find it hilarious that fans of teams who went 7-9 last year wanna talk s— when we made it to the AFC Championship. Yes, I’m proud of the fact that we made it that far considering only 4 of 32 teams can say that.

  7. What a game by Matt! Very classy pro. In the Indy Star we had colts fans and pat trolls posting how Grigson had screwed up by having him on the roster would bite the Colts in the butt. Ah, thats good for a laugh. He won both his starts and thats all that you can ask a backup QB to do.

  8. Where the haters at? Matt Hasselbeck is one of their only class acts in the NFL. I will never forget what he did for us in Seattle. I got his back as I’m sure all of us in Seattle do. After tonight he should be the starter. Luck can take over when he retires.
