The Cowboys lost for the third time in as many weeks on Sunday afternoon, which means that quarterback Brandon Weeden was on the wrong side of the scoreboard for the 11th time in his last 11 starts.
Weeden didn’t lead the Cowboys to a touchdown in the 30-6 loss to the Patriots and the Dallas passing offense continued to be a low-octane affair with Weeden at the controls. That would explain why the team is considering a move to Matt Cassel during the bye week, something Weeden says “sucks” even if it fits with what he says is a long history of being unlucky.
“Norv Turner told me a long time ago when we were sitting in the [Browns] quarterback meeting, and he said, ‘Brandon, I don’t know what you have done to whoever, but you’ve got the worst luck of any player I have been around.’ I have, ever since I was a little kid,” Weeden said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I don’t know what I did. But it is what it is. I’m never going to lose confidence in my ability. I wouldn’t be here and put in this position if I couldn’t play this position. You’ve just got to clean it up — the little things that maybe I missed today.”
We can’t speak to the rest of Weeden’s life experiences, but luck hasn’t been a primary factor in any of the three losses he’s had in Dallas. They’ve been overmatched in terms of talent and they’ve executed poorly for some or all of the three contests. All of that doesn’t fall on Weeden, of course, but it’s not a bad bounce here or there deciding the games any more than it was when Weeden was losing games with the Browns.
