Mike Wallace not practicing, Vikes unsure if he’ll play this week

AP

The Vikings returned from a week off for practice on Monday and wide receiver Mike Wallace didn’t join his teammates on the field.

Wallace had his most productive game as a Viking in Week Four when he caught eight passes for 83 yards and a touchdown in a 23-20 loss to the Broncos, but sat out the team’s only practice last week as well. The Vikings have not had to put out an injury report since that loss, although there were reports last week that Wallace is dealing with a sore knee.

On Monday, coach Mike Zimmer said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, that he “can’t disclose” why Wallace is out of practice and answered “we’ll see” when asked about the chances that Wallace would be in the lineup against the Chiefs this weekend.

Wide receiver Charles Johnson missed the Denver game with a rib injury and was seen working on the side during Monday’s practice.

  1. Wallace was targeted quite frequently during the last game, and seemed to play well. I hope this isn’t an instance of him copping an attitude.

With Wallace and Johnson ailing, sounds like Stefon Diggs might get another shot to show what he can do. Of course, Cordarelle Patterson could also get another shot to show what he could do, but my money’s on Diggs.

  2. Looks like Teddy’s receivers this week could be Diggs, Thielen, and Patterson. Maybe Rudolph can get himself a bit more involved too. Good enough to beat the Chiefs.

Fortunately he doesn’t have to run more than 20 yards to catch the bomb from Teddy.

Then 60 to the house, because your DB’s cant catch him.

I cannot wait for this game. Famous last crow-tasting words……especially putting the Vikings in the same breath as the Packers.

    _______

Yeah but those same Packers and inept Defense also beat the 9ers… whose only win has come against the Vikings so…. maybe you shouldn’t take any team lightly.

Why are all these fans crowning Diggs as well, maybe I didn’t see as much of him in the pre-season and I am missinga bit, but 1 game does not mean a guy has arrived…

“Flash” Patterson is proof of that. Sure Diggs had a decent game but have you guys forgot about his 2 fumbles?

  6. In Teddy We Trust says:

Looks like Teddy’s receivers this week could be Diggs, Thielen, and Patterson.

Oh yeah, Patterson – how is his “I’ma prove I’m not a bust” season going so far?

  7. The other teams fans saying they aren’t worried about Playing the Vikings and their receivers, sure spend a lot of their time and effort saying they aren’t. HMMM

  8. I don’t get it, if the Vikings are hardly going to miss Wallace, why are they paying him over $11 mil a year? When it comes to evaluating the WR position, the Vikings usually whiff on free agents like Benard Berriman or Craig Jennings. That’s when they aren’t missing on draft picks like Stone hands Troy Williamson or trading for the likes of Walllace.

  9. It doesn’t matter if he plays or not. MN has the worst passing offense in the NFL and that won’t change with or without Wallace.

They are going to ride Peterson until his legs fall off because they can’t ride the QB, especially behind that offensive offensive line. They could trot out Ahmad Rashad, Randy Moss and Chris Carter and it wouldn’t matter. And Taco Mike Wallace ain’t in the same breath as them.

  10. Lets not go too far overboard and anoint Diggs as the solution to the Vikings problems at WR. Patterson had a few decent games and look how he has turned out.

Diggs had one good game. He needs to string together 5-6 games minimum before anyone is going to really take him seriously and realistically change a defensive scheme around him.

As for Wallace, lets hope this is not a different way for him to cry and pout because he is not getting the rock as often as he would like.

  11. The Chiefs most definitely have a better O Line than we got. This will be a tough match up as I was disappointed from the last game against the Broncos. At this point I am unsure if the Vikings can win many more games in this tough schedule. Maybe I was too excited for this season.

Packers have a top 4 passing defense in both yards allowed and TD’s- which is better than the Vikings.

Statistically, the Packers have a better defense than the Vikings do. And they have 3 more wins than the Vikings.

  13. This does not bode well for the NFC North’s worst ranked offense. Who am I kidding they in contention for the NFL’s worst offense. Hopefully they can ride that bottom half defense for a game.

What has this kid done to deserve such praise?
6 NFL catches for 87 yards.

This perfectly illustrates why the rest of the league laughs at all of you.

    Seriously, I’m not trolling here.
    I’m trying to help you.

  15. Six catches and he’s the second coming of Jordy Nelson. Us queenie fans are so desperate for any kind of success that we see a guy who catches 6 passes and immediately anoint him a future star. I sure hope people don’t read our scout forum because it’s so embarrassing with all the delusional threads, even for me who is a die hard heidi fan. Now where the hell is my wife?

Wallace is just the kind of hapless and tasteless receiver that the Vikings can build their incompetence offense around.
    ——
    You’re using words wrong again…

  17. He’s not the second coming of Jordy.. He’s the second
coming of Randy..This just shows evidence of Narcissism and arrogance,
Every player in the NFL has to compare to one of yours. You don’t happen to have a heavy German lineage there do you?
If I start seeing Goose Stepping formations and any fingers pointed straight out on an extended arm, I’m going to start to worry here…you know Germany IS about the same size as Wisconsin. hmmm

  18. You Know the Vikings could have won that Bronco’s
Game, especially if the refs called 1/2 the Offensive Holding and Defensive Holding and Pass interference calls.
It only takes a couple of plays to make a difference.
Catches for one need to be simplified, If the receiver gets it in his hands but at some points has it shift or bounce from the ground it is a catch, if that same catch bounces out, it is a fumble if it HAD a second of solid grip.
The Vikings Defense Beat the spirit out of the Lions.
    Chargers were manhandled,
If The Bridgewater had not fumbled Minnesota wins in OT.
We might be 7 and 2 in the next 2 months..
The team is getting better, closing the Gap
    Psychologically.
You can snicker all you want, but you see the difference in Defense, you see Peterson is running in 2012/ 2013 form. There are MANY new faces and
SPEED! then think of depth next year on WR and OL in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd,and 4th rounds in the draft
There it goes from 10-6 to 13-3. We are close enough to be making GB sweat under the collar..

That commet shows how delusional you are… comparing Stefon Diggs who has played barely a month in the NFL to one of the BEST WRs to ever play for your favorite team…

Diggs has many Fumbles with his 7 catches…. as Moss did in his first 2 seasons. Unless I missundersood and you are talking about a different Randy which then maybe…. He may be as good as Petite Randy Moss, or maybe you meant Randall McDaniel…. but you guys need to quit crowning players and team in September and October…. I know you guys get antsy cuz thats you know you won’t be able to do it in December, but it looks REALLY silly.

Remember when Teddy through that Hail Mary and it landed on about the 15 yard line? That was funny.

  21. Don’t worry Viking fans, the annual CHOKE from GB is coming. They’ll get their hopes up, assume its their year…..

And have their Hearts ripped out again.

Just a way of life in Chokertown.

  22. So many good quotes from Viking fans in the comments. Can’t wait to come back and grab a few after they lose on Sunday!

  23. I feel I’m in the minority based on the posts by other Vikings fans but I feel that Bridgewater has all the tools to be a outstanding QB except 2 and they both hurt the Vikings. First he doesn’t have a super strong arm, that’s ok because that’s not exactly needed, Joe Montana didn’t have a gun. The thing is what Montana did have and what I haven’t seen consistently yet in Bridgewater is accuracy. There were 2 passes against the Broncos that if Bridgewater didn’t throw it out of bounds and was at all accurate within 2 yards would have been TD’s. He has also missed on some deep balls in each game that again if they were even in the vicinity would have been huge gains and a couple of TD’s. I understand growing pains but man that is troublesome and I don’t see how that can’t be a worry for the coaches.

That’s an interesting assessment. Only one team per year wins the Super Bowl. Many teams make the playoffs multiple times, sometimes advancing and sometimes not, and most often not winning the Super Bowl. Are all of these teams chokers as well?

And what of the Vikings and other teams that don’t make the playoffs?

Take the Vikings. The last 5 years, one playoff appearance- a loss to the Packers

The Packers have one Super Bowl and 10 total playoff games in the same 5-year period (The Vikings have a total of 10 playoff games since 1999). In 3 of those 5 years, the Packers have advanced at least one round. As a Bears’ fan, I’d love to be in that position, as would fans of most other NFL teams, save for a few that consistently make the playoffs.

The Packers choked last year, no doubt. The other times, they’ve simply been beaten in the playoffs.

It’s funny to listen to someone call a team that makes the playoffs and doesn’t win the Super Bowl “chokers”, when their own team can’t even make the playoffs, let alone having a losing record 4 out of the last 5 years.

  25. Cutler, R.Wilson, Alex Smith, Foles & Kaep that is who the packers defense shut down. Clay has 15 tackles in 5 games.

    )))))))))))))))))))))

People call your team chokers because the whole team collapsed in the last 10 minutes of the Seattle game. The worst choke ever in a NFC championship game. That is why they rightfully call you chokers. They had it won and stole defeat from the jaws of victory. You have to deal with it, you did choke.

You need to read more closely. In my post, I did say that the Packers choked, and also that I’m a Bears fan.

But you called it an “annual choke” inferring that that every time they lose in the playoffs, it’s choking. And if that’s the case, then every team in the playoffs (by your definition) is a choker except for the Super Bowl victor.

Go back and read your post again, as well as my response.
