49ers snap losing streak in 25-20 win over Ravens

There wasn’t much about Sunday’s Ravens-49ers matchup that looked like Super Bowl XLVII, including the final score.

No blackouts, no Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers finished the game as 25-20 winners over their visitors from Baltimore. Two players who were playing for Baltimore back then had a hand in getting their current team its second win of the year.

Torrey Smith had a 76-yard touchdown in the first half and Anquan Boldin made a 51-yard catch in the fourth quarter to set up a Colin Kaepernick touchdown pass to Quinton Patton. Cornerback Shareece Wright, who landed with the Ravens after asking for and getting his release from the 49ers, fell down on the play to leave Patton wide open and make for a lopsided return on the talent exchange between the two teams.

Smith and Boldin combined for eight catches and 196 yards on a day when the 49ers were able to hit on several long passing plays. Not all of them were due to Kaepernick’s arm because the Niners did damage after the catch, but the quarterback was as sharp as he’s been all year while completing 16-of-27 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns. Neither he nor anyone else on the 49ers turned the ball over, which wasn’t something the Ravens could say for themselves.

Joe Flacco was intercepted twice and the 49ers turned both takeaways into points that loomed large in the Ravens’ fifth loss by less than a touchdown this season. Flacco got the Ravens to the 35-yard line for a couple of shots at pulling out the win in the final seconds, but they fell incomplete and the inconsistency from Flacco and the entire offense contributed mightily to the loss.

The secondary is consistent, but in the worst possible way and the group may have lost another member on Sunday. Safety Kendrick Lewis left with a knee injury and never returned to action.

At 1-5, it’s all but impossible to imagine this Ravens season ending in another trip to the postseason. That might not be in the cards for the 49ers either, but they’ve turned in two straight good offensive performances that should provide confidence for what was a beleaguered unit a few weeks into the season.

  1. Good for the 49ers… Hey, did the Dolphins play today pft? I don’t think I’ve heard anything from you guys about their “corny” interim head coach did.

  2. Good win for the 9-ers.

    The Ravens? This year they are showing they are really just the Browns dressed in purple.

  3. Too bad Baltimore. 1-5 must burn Harbaugh but he can make it all go away by going to USC.

    This is Karma for trying to frame the greatest quarterback ever. Not many teams are done after 6 games but the Ravens are one of them.

  4. Good win for the Niners but did anyone else see Tucker’s foot sink into the ground on that fg attempt? That field is flat out deplorable.

  5. The 1849ers aka the 49ers forcibly removed and murdered 100K Native Americans during the Gold Rush while raping their women and children. No outrage whatsoever. FACT

  6. seahawks choked again and will be 2-5 this thursday. our d will lock down wilson with bowman playing spy.

  7. What a great weekend. Both the Crybaugh brothers lost!!! The Purple Browns look atrocious. In Oz we trust? Steelers third string QB looked better than jump ball Joe and he even costs $120 million less.

  8. I took my girlfriend to her first game at Levi’s, needless to say it was a great experience. The whole atmosphere is different than Candlestick but you can’t change history.

    Shame we couldn’t have held the lead last week but ehhh, the Seahacks lost so that makes for a pleasant start to the week. Like I said in March, whether we are 4-12 or 12-4 I’ll bleed Red & Gold till the day I die.

    GO NINERS!!!!!

  9. thurs night should be interesting. 49ers team, fans really hungry for a win against Seattle regardless of how the season winds up. If 49ers stay competitive through 3 quarters, it could get interesting. They say revenge is a dish best served cold. It would be very cold indeed to drop the Seahawks to 2-5. Seattle is the better team but maybe the niners are catching them at the right time, with their season unravelling and their confidence shaken.

  10. 49ers finally won their “Super Bowl” and now they think they’re as good as the Seahawks? LOL

    We’re both 2-4, so we are as good as the Seahacks smart guy.

    Oh, my gosh, you Seahawks fans are delusional. At least we knew what was coming for San Fran, after the retirements and Jed York trying to pay $60,000 a year for his coaching staff. You guys are in complete denial. That offensive line of Seattle’s is putrid, but your quarterback is THE most overpaid in the history of the league. The defense without Dan Quinn is rudderless. You guys might come in and beat the 49ers Thursday, you might not, but regardless — your ship is sinking.

    And you’ve shot your mouth off so much that every fan base in the league loves it.

    Enjoy 8-8, 9-7. Maybe Arizona will collapse enough to hand you the division, because there’s no way you’re winning it wihtout that.

  13. “Hey Ravens! your 1-6…CHAMPIONSHIP!! how great is OZZIE now??? Your team is OLD AND SLOW!!!”
    ~~~~
    I can accept all the others but this one needs to be addressed. Old and Slow?
    Rookie RB,
    Two rookie TEs,
    2nd year TE,
    Rookie OLB,
    Rookie DT,
    Two rookie WR
    2nd year DT,
    3rd year NT,
    2nd year ILB,
    I could go on but you get the idea. They got lots of problems but old and slow isn’t one.
  14. Does the equal winning? As far as I know, each team is good as their records? rookie draft picks? everyone has them either on their 53 man roster or the have them on the PS.
    Your still 1-6 and going down hill fast…CHAMPIONSHIP!!! way to go OZZIE!!
