Kawann Short named NFC defensive player of the week

The Panthers don’t have the traditional means of pass-rush, but that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily short there.

Panthers defensive tackle Kawann Short was named NFC defensive player of the week, for his pair of sacks in Carolina’s win at Seattle last week.

Short’s been the most disruptive player the Panthers have up front this year, as what was once a deep stable of defensive ends has been pecked away by free agency and injuries.

But even with the odd cast around him, Short has been able to get consistent pressure, and his straight-up-the-middle skills helped harass Russell Wilson into a frustrating day.

Short, a former second-rounder from Purdue, has paired with Star Lotulelei to make up for the lack of injured end Charles Johnson, as well as his injured replacement Jared Allen.
