“Personal reasons” keep Percy Harvin from traveling to UK

Wide receiver Percy Harvin was out of the Bills lineup last weekend and a hip injury was the reason given for his absence.

There were reports earlier this week that Harvin would miss this weekend’s game in London against the Jaguars for the same reason. It looks like that’s half right. Harvin is not in London with the team and coach Rex Ryan said it’s unlikely that he’ll be playing on Sunday, but that Harvin has been “excused for personal reasons.”

“No, I think right now this is a personal thing right now,” Ryan said, via the Buffalo News. “That’s where it is. … We know he was battling the hip and things but this is a personal issue.”

Ryan said after last Sunday’s game that there was a player with a visa problem that might interfere with travel, but wouldn’t get into the nature of Harvin’s issue or if it was a long-term concern.

Running back Karlos Williams and right tackle Seantrel Henderson are both dealing with concussions and didn’t make the trip. Defensive tackle Kyle Williams is also back in the states after suffering a knee injury during the loss to the Bengals.

  1. With his migraine history, the altitude and pressure from flying for an extended period will trigger an attack and make it so he can’t play anyway and is miserable. I think I remember something similar happening when he was with the Vikings.

  2. Last I checked, there’s no visa required for an American to travel to the UK. Passport, yes. Visa, no. Surely Percy has a passport…

  3. He’s not there due to A) He doesn’t know where it is. B) He’s afraid of a language barrier.

  4. Everyone who thought Harvin would play in all 16 games, please raise your hands. No hands. 15 games? No hands. 14 games? Still, no hands.

  5. There is an 18 year old kid on the Pittsburgh Penguins who had to sit out last nights home game due to a bureaucratic work visa issue.

How do Goddell, Kraft, and friends plan to deal with the rap sheets and criminal convictions the guys in NFL have once their dumb plan to stick teams all over the world starts to get off the ground?

  6. According to the Bill’s BuffaloNews, Ryan also added “I’m not going to touch any of it.”

Given Harvin’s long history of causing trouble, sulks and sitting himself out, the best guess for a “personal issue” that Ryan has to be so evasive about publicly is that Harvin refused to make the trip to London – or maybe he’s already banned there…

  7. Headcase literally, wasn’t he popping off during the of-season how great the Bills were going to be. Dude has missed more games than one cares to remember.

  8. Nothing more personal than losing targets to Sammy Watkins.

Harvin had good chemistry with Tyrod, but Watkins wants his boy EJ throwing him the ball 20 times a game.

  9. I figured Rex Ryan wouldn’t have lost control of his team until year two. He’s well ahead of schedule.

  10. Well, Rex’s act sold tickets but it appears to already be wearing thin in Buffalo. Surprising to see his defensive players calling him out publicly. Not surprising to see Harvin out of action and being a distraction. Nor is it surprising to see problems at the QB position, a position that Rex never seems to give its due.

Is there any question that the Jets made the right decision when they terminated his contract and that the Falcons made the right one in hiring Dan Quinn and not Rex?

Is there any question you jumped the gun just a little bit and don’t know what you are talking about? The Jets haven’t played ANYONE. They will finish in last place in the division. Take that to the bank. As far as the Falcons, they have the same team as last year, they are really good, they had a TON of injuries last year.

Check again – no visa for tourists, but this is work so you need a visa.

  13. When it comes to Harvin, “personal reasons” normally means he has been held accountable for something he has done wrong and he goes and hides in a dark room to avoid having to deal with it.

  14. Not allowed to leave the the continental united states per federal law enforcement.
That most likely the reason knowing Rex’s choices of players he sign up.

  15. “How do Goddell, Kraft, and friends plan to deal with the rap sheets and criminal convictions…”

Hoe does Kraft have anything to do with it?

  16. This isn’t a HARVIN issue, it’s a STUPID issue.

Now the standings could be skewed by teams having to play with depleted rosters.

Sending teams across the pond is STUPID.

Define anyone. There are only 9 teams with winning records. Of the undefeated teams only NE has played a team with a winning record. Teams can only play what’s on their schedule. With the current state of (ahem) ‘parity’ in the NFL without some major injuries the Jets will be hard pressed to finish with a losing record. Take a look at their remaining schedule. With 11 to go they have 3 games left with the AFCS, it is hardly a stretch to think they will win at least a couple of the remaining 8.

I am a Giants guy so no dog in the fight but dismissing the Jets is a mistake. If for no other reason than the sorry state of overall competition in the league this year.

Sounds like the Bills are finding out what a cancer this guy is.

    ==================================================================================

Says who?? “Angry” Doug Baldwin? Russell “Me First” Wilson?

  19. More interesting is the path that the doormats of the AFC East feel the need to follow. Over paying for name recognition free agents littered with warts. Harvin, Suh, McCoy. Agents love desperate teams and greedy “stars” that shine in name only. Both the Bills and the Dolphins deserve the production they are getting from their “marquis” players. The Jets are at least getting a star performance from their greedy Revis. Too bad they can’t afford a quality QB now….or in the future.
New England forces their competitors to do stupid things….in Buffalo….Wrecks, McCoy, Harvin…..need I write more

  20. billswillnevermove, sorry but Rex has lost three home games. He is reverting to form.

I have been reading your anti-Patriots posts for a long time and appreciate that you are a die hard Bill’s fan but you need to take the blinders off. Even Jim Kelly is taking shots at Rex.

Rex is a good guy but he is belligerent just like his dad. He is either unwilling or incapable of change. His model doesn’t work. His teams always lack depth. Keeping a game close when you don’t have an offense that can go out and win the game makes for a .500 team at best. If a Rex team has QB troubles it gets ugly.

If you have read my posts over the years you would know I actually do “know what I am talking about.”

  21. What is up with Karlos Williams? This is absurd. Guy didn’t even leave the game cause of his concussion, it was discovered after. And now he’s about to miss 3 straight with NO explanation of why or of his status ? What the hell?

  22. Why are the majorities of comments here venomous and nasty? Really? It makes people look shallow and stupid.

Hopefully Percy is OK, and there’s noting serious going on in his life. Sheesh.

  23. Hi Rex!

    Brad here. Ya Childress!

    Good to talk to you!

Please be careful, that Harvin guy knows how to throw Dumb Bells.

  24. Dear NFL: Give up this stupid expansion idea and focus on fixing the huge money maker you already have here- which is in danger of collapse from greed, overblown egos, and rampant criminal activity from your ‘star’ players.

  25. I can’t believe Spielman got a 1st and a 3rd rounder from the Hawks for this “personal issue” machine.

  26. If he can’t play for personal reasons, then doc him 1/16 his yearly pay…

Things will get sorted out quick if that happens…

  27. love the people assuming he cant leave cause he broke the law. He would need to be charged with a crime and have his passport and travel banned…i’m sure this would be in the media by now seeing that we find out when a player takes a dump with corn in it these days.

  28. If it were truly visa or some sort of other travel related issue I’m sure the Bills have personnel who deal with that and have been trying to deal with it the whole year, not just the week before the game. If its a personal reason excusable by the team then let him go, if otherwise he should not get paid the game check, period. Don’t want to travel for whatever reason, then don’t get paid. There are a 100 other people going on this trip from the Bills organization with out excuses.

  29. Sexy Rex: “I think it’s a personal issue.” Hell, you dont know??
    —————————
Oh Rex knows. he knows felons cant travel out of country.
