Patriots’ Dion Lewis likely out today

AP

The Patriots are heading into today’s game against the Jets without their leading rusher.

New England running back Dion Lewis is not expected to play today, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Lewis, who is listed as questionable with an abdominal injury, will go through pregame warmups and see how he feels, but at the moment it doesn’t look good.

Lewis has started all five games this season and has 40 carries for 201 yards and two touchdowns, and he’s also second on the team with 26 catches. Losing him is a significant blow to the offense.

LeGarrette Blount will be the Patriots’ main running back today, and James White will likely get more playing time on passing downs. Patriots running back Brandon Bolden is questionable with a hamstring injury.

  1. This is bad news. With the Jets secondary as good as it is, we need more screen pass options and agility from the backfield. Lewis will be missed today if he doesn’t play. Jets are going to bring the A-game and they will be our toughest team yet. Go Pats.

  2. The Patriots 4th string line, losing Dion Lewis, maybe no Hightower,no secondary…..
If the Jets can’t win today they’ll never take the division.

  3. Big break for the jets. Weakest link on their defense is LB pass coverage and he would’ve been a handful to deal with coming out of the backfield. Now jets can hunker down for the power running game and devote more resources to stopping gronkowski.

  4. hahahahahahaha he’s not playing? he’s gonna “will go through pregame warmups and see how he feels? lmaooooooooooooo YEAH RIGHT!!! he be in pads and hitting that brickwall as soon as they hand if off to him today.

Good job with the B.S. Beli

  5. Who knows ? The pats are really banged up

Maybe we have a shot today

Can’t wait for a good game and nay the better team win today

  6. Man, one of the reasons I wasn’t TOO worried about the Jets’ pass rush was Dion Lewis’ ability to make the first couple tacklers miss.

His ability to turn nothing into something would have helped Brady nullify the pass rush a bit with quick check downs.

Lets not kid ourselves here; a tough game just got tougher, especially now that they have a competent HC over there. I saw a montage comparing Bowles’ press conferences from this week to Rex’s when he was there, and I felt a feeling for someone associated with the Jets that I haven’t felt in a while: respect. You have to respect a guy who conducts himself as a professional should.

  7. This is very very bad for new england. the jets defense is stout. i am a pats fan..and besides TB12 ..lewis could be their most important player. including gronk. gronk is a freak..but he does what he does..lewis is an enigma. hes tricky. huge blow to the pats. games now are planned around him. beofre i thought pats 30 jets 17..now i think alot closer..24-21 type game..Pats of course. Id love to see a blow out though

  8. Not great news, Lewis was the equalizer to a banged up O Line vs an aggressive D Line. This game was already making me nervous before this news

  9. Oh oh. Here comes Goodell’s minions with a new investigation against the Patriots for not giving sufficient notice that Dion will not play. That violates the NFL policy on maintaining the Integrity of the NFL’s non-gambling, gambling operations. He can’t possibly allow any of that now can he. And besides, how dare the Patriots initiate their own attempt at establishing league parity. Don’t they know that is the sole domain of Goodell the Narcissist?

  10. I don’t think this a good match up for Blount so I’d expect a lot of White unless the Pats can build a big lead which I don’t see happening. Tough game gets a lot tougher w/o D-Lew

  11. Next Man Up! Pats will have a new wrinkle, probably with the emergence of a new player that no one considered a possible factor in the game…That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jets make it a game and maybe squeak one out. I prefer that vs the Pats just rolling over everyone by 30. It gets kind of boring…

  12. The problem with this game is that so many “talking heads” are predicting a Jets win. These predictions are most likely playing over and over in loop format on the big screens in the Patriots locker room and wherever else the team might gather at the facility. So much of the Patriots success comes from mind control, the Jets may find themselves in a deep hole early today.

  13. This could be a very long day for Tom Brady and the Patriots. Tom will get hit so much he’ll be rethinking his plan to play for 10 more years. The Patriot defense and special teams are going to have to win this game.

  14. Next man up. With the OL injuries and Revis likely taking on Gronk it comes down to Brady using his new mobility to buy a few more seconds to find Edelman (yes folks – Brady is PO’ed over FrameGate and is working to get better) – and of course a decent running game

If the Pats win it will show how deep this team truly is

  15. “The Patriot defense and special teams are going to have to win this game.”

Lol, wishful thinking at it’s best from a worried Jets fan.
Gonna be a good game, just relax and enjoy it for what it is guys.

  16. The talking heads are pushing the Revis/Gronk matchup but it probably won’t happen more than a few times in the game. I get that it sounds strength on strength sexy but does anyone here really think the Jets are going to send Revis inside? Just don’t see that happening, operating in traffic is not his strength. If Lewis is a no go expect a lot of multiple TE sets with chips before releasing into the pattern.

    sort of like last week?

  18. The Jets are overmatched in every facet; offense, defense, special teams, coaching, individual and team experience. Revis won’t phase the New England offense one bit, the Patriots aren’t that lesser team that New York keeps playing every week. Statistics matter only on paper, New England’s defense is bigger, stronger, faster, and deeper on the bench than the Jets. If your shaking your head in disbelief, go back and watch the Cowboys game against that much vaunted o-line, New England dwarfed them as they do every team. Special teams and coaching speak for themselves on New England. There is no illusion here, folks, New England is going to dominate this game from start to finish. No trap game for NE, no pure blind luck for NY for the win. Patriots 43 NY 17

    Lol, I’m a Patriots fan.

Next man up. This isnt buffalo, we dont use injuries as an excuse
    —————-
well said, rufusfirefl.y. The Patriots have never used injuries as an excuse, even the year Brady went down. Still, they are the Jets, so we can count of some boneheaded plays from them.

  21. Nope. Jetsfan136, the same defensive and offensive plays most definitely will not be used by New England that were used in Indianapolis. Jets are very limited in what they they can do, same plays. It’s a fact that New England will change their approach with every half game of football, Jets don’t have the depth or starting personnel to keep up. Again, stats matter only on the sheet of paper.
