Cassel says Dez is bringing energy to practice

Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant is back on the practice field for the first time since his Week One foot injury, and his quarterback likes what he sees.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, that quarterback is not Tony Romo but Matt Cassel, who wasn’t even on the team the last time Bryant practiced. Cassel said he was pleased to work with Bryant for the first time today.

“It’s great to have him out here. He brings a special energy to the huddle. He’s a guy that brings great excitement, enthusiasm, coming out of every play he’s high-fiving people,” Cassel said on NFL Network. “I think it’s a work in progress to build our rapport, build our relationship.”

Cassel said the Cowboys are preparing for a tough game Sunday against the Seahawks.

“You’re gonna have to bring your lunch pail, you’re gonna have to put on your hard hat and get to work on Sunday because you know it’s gonna be a physical game and you know it’s not gonna be easy.”

Nothing will be easy for the Cowboys until Romo gets back. But having Bryant on the field gives them some hope that their offense will finally start making plays.

  1. He brings a special energy to the huddle. He’s a guy that brings great excitement, enthusiasm, coming out of every play…

Don’t worry! That’ll all go away after he watches you throw your first four or five interceptions.

  2. Energy, that’s great, better than what Hardy might decide to bring to practice one of these days.

  3. As if anything is “easy” when Romo IS there. Certainly he is the best QB on the Cowboys roster. And he’s easily in the top 10 of all quarterbacks in the game today. But, and this is why I respect Romo, he has to earn everything he gets. Nothing comes “easy”.

    Go Hawks!

  4. Cowboys are not America’s Team, NO WAY!

It is not even remotely cool to be a Cowboy and that is a terrible representation of what it is to be an American.

    Cowboys are Joke!

  5. who is kidding who here? Dallas is done, sign Mallett to be Romo’s replacement next time he goes down (and he will) he already has a Texas fan base (ha.ha)

  6. Of course Dez brings energy. Dez is the heart and soul of the offense and Romo is the player the whole organization is built around. Why people can’t understand their struggles without the both of them is beyond me. Just face it folks, if Dez and Romo get back to form while the team has any chance left, look out because Big D will rise out of the ashes.

  7. “…having Bryant on the field gives them some hope that their offense will finally start making plays.”

    Not this week.

  8. Pats fan…. If Cassel can minimize his interceptions… Dallas will beat the Seahawks by 2 touchdowns. He looked good at times last week and he knows the offense much better now. They played the Patriots tough and should have beat the Giants. This is a must win for Dallas.

  9. It’s desperation time in Dallas.

It’s ludicrous to think that Bryant coming back early or too soon is going to change anything. The other receivers can’t get open and don’t run precise routes. Two of Cassel’s interceptions last week were not on him. So even when Bryant returns all opposing defenses have to do is double or triple cover him, and the Cowboys have no alternative.

It’s highly questionable whether McFadden can sustain the performance he had last week. Absent that, there is no running game.

More importantly the defense is not generating takeaways. The Cowboys’ record under Garrett in games with zero takeaways is 1-20. While the defense has improved somewhat with the return of Hardy and McClain, the absence of takeaways limits their ability to change games.

    Yes they are.

  11. Cassel throws the most beautiful ball I have ever seen, even more beautiful than Brandon Weeden, who also throws the most beautiful ball I have ever seen. I can’t wait until one of those most beautiful balls by Cass is a floater in Dez’s direction that gets intercepted. Lots of passion will ensue!

  12. Did I hear that Patriot fan say Cowboys win the game by two scores? Did you watch Cassell get abused by the Giants secondary?

Seattle actually has a run defense and I did see the Cowboys are struggling on special teams. Guess we will see who knows what about football after the weekend.
