Nearly perfect day nets Tannehill AFC offensive player of the week

during a game at Sun Life Stadium on October 25, 2015 in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Mike Ehrmann

The last two weeks have brought vastly improved results for a Dolphins team that appeared to be sinking four weeks into the season.

They’d fired coach Joe Philbin and defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle after a 1-3 start that was well below the expectations placed on the team heading into the year. Two blowout wins followed those departures, including last Sunday’s 44-26 rout of the Texans.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill sparkled in that game, completing 18-of-19 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns. All four of those scores came in the first half and three of them covered more than 50 yards as Tannehill got the ball into the hands of his receivers and watched them scamper through the Houston defense for easy scores. As a result, the Dolphins led 41-0 before taking their foot off the gas in the second half.

Tannehill’s accuracy enabled him to set an NFL record during the game. Including his Week Six outing, Tannehill completed 25 straight passes at one point and replaced Donovan McNabb as the player with the most consecutive completions in NFL history. All of that led to a perfect passer rating and renewed hope for the Dolphins as they head into Thursday night’s clash with the Patriots.
