With Chris Ivory banged up, Jets look at a pair of running backs

Jets running back Chris Ivory is, according to coach Todd Bowles, dealing with “tightness in his quad.” While it may not keep Ivory from playing, it has caused the Jets to look at a couple of running backs.

Per a league source, the Jets tried out Jeff Demps and Akeem Hunt on Tuesday. Also getting tryouts with the team were receiver Larry Pinkard and defensive back Cooper Taylor.

Demps, a former sprinter who spent time with the Patriots and Buccaneers, has appeared in only two NFL regular-season games, with one attempt for 14 yards and three catches for 21 yards. Hunt has never appeared in a regular-season game; he last spent time with the Giants.

After Sunday’s loss to the Patriots, linebacker Dont’a Hightower said “you could kind of tell something wasn’t right” with Ivory, who had 17 carries for only 41 yards against the Patriots. He also caught a pair of passes for 12 yards and a touchdown.

  1. Jets may have beat the Pats if Ivory was healthy, though Pats D played well against the run.

The Jets looked pretty good as a team. You Jets fans should have some guarded optimism, for sure. Rex is a joke… a gift that keeps on giving.

  2. The Ray Rice blackball is official. He will never get another sniff of a try out in the NFL. When Jeff Demps and someone named Akeem Hunt, who I’m not even sure is a real person, get tryouts and he doesn’t, you know it’s over.

I won’t be crying any tears over it- he made his own bed. On the other hand, every down that Greg Hardy plays is further proof that morality in the NFL is, at best, situational.

If Rice had had the foresight to knock his fiancé out when he was in his prime instead of waiting till he was on the downside of his career, he would have a job now.

  3. Unfortunately this is his mo. He was great out of the blocks in NO but he runs so hard and sustains so much contact that he never made it through a full season. Too bad because he’s fun to watch.

  4. Ivory will probably play on Sunday this is just as a precaution. The coach seems like a cool and competent dude who will take the Jets to a wildcard if they play as well as they did against the Pats last Sunday. Wow talking about the Jets in a positive way is weird.
