Kawann Short named NFC defensive player of the month

Eventually having so many good young players on defense will become an expensive problem for the Panthers.

But for the moment, they’re just enjoying being 6-0 because of it.

Panthers defensive tackle Kawann Short was named NFL defensive player of the month, after recording five sacks in October. All give sacks have come the last two weeks, against the Seahawks and the Eagles as the Panthers have validated their undefeated start by beating a better grade of opponents.

He follows Panthers cornerback Josh Norman, who was the player of the month in September.

Short, their second-round pick in 2013, has another year left on his rookie deal, while Norman will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Keeping both might be tough for the Panthers, but that’s something they’ll worry about another time.
