Rams have no comment yet on Reggie Bush injury

AP

For the second straight week, a non-Rams player playing at the Edward Jones Dome slipped on the concrete that surrounds the field.

Last Sunday, Browns quarterback Josh McCown skidded into the wall, injuring his shoulder. This Sunday, 49ers running back Reggie Bush reportedly suffered a torn ACL when slipping on the concrete.

The Rams have no comment regarding the situation. However, coach Jeff Fisher will be meeting with reporters on Monday, and he’ll most likely be asked about the situation.

Regardless of what the Rams or the league say about it, having a hazard like that doesn’t mesh with the league’s focus on player health and safety.

  1. Well now they have a reason to build a new stadium. However, based on the crowd shots today, they won’t be needing an upper deck as it looked like a mid-September Seattle Mariners game rather than an NFL game.

  2. When pressed on the matter, Rams owner Stan Kronke could only say the following:

We a police to Reggie and the +9 era for the state of the facility in St. Louis. I’ve assured Jeb York and the other 28 owners that there is no concrete on the playing surface of the LA Coliseum next season.

  3. Really? Big swaths of concrete right next to the field are even ALLOWED? How is that even possible?

  4. When pressed on the matter, Rams owner Stan Kronke could only say the following:

We apologize to Reggie and the 49ers for the state of the facility in St. Louis. I’ve assured Jeb York and the other 28 owners that there is no concrete on the playing surface of the LA Coliseum next season.

  5. “…having a hazard like that doesn’t mesh with the league’s focus on player health and safety.” So basically what you’re saying here is that Reggie is in the clear to go ahead and file a lawsuit against the Rams organization as a whole (including the structure of their stadium of course). If he is not the only player to have had an issue with this supposed “concrete”, then again; he contains all of the leverage in this particular situation. Case closed folks.

  6. Yeah,

If I was Reggie I would file a lawsuit. He’s a 31 year old RB, and this non-football related injury could easily end his career.

  7. Stadiums put down slick materials on the sidelines between the 33 yard lines, and when wet weather comes about it looks like slip & slides

  8. I know it’s not the same but could you imagine if baseball warning tracks were concrete. Yeesh- you have very expensive people walking with cleats on concrete. No Bueno

  9. The concrete that surrounds the field in St. Louis is just about as dangerous as the grass they call a playing surface in Santa Clara.

  10. The Rams “12th Man” is the concrete that surrounds the field rather than the 12 men in the stands.

  11. Reminds me of that Packers assistant who hit his head on the concrete in Dallas. You would think they would’ve banned all exposed concrete on ground level after that.

  12. It should baffle the logically thinking mind to think that a 3 foot path, a good 10 – 15 yards off the field, should have anything to do with player safety. Maybe the wall surrounding the field is the real issue and they should be removed to ensure 250-300lb men wearing what is essentially battle armor can dive into the stands and mingle with the fans.

  13. I will agree that there should not be a situation in any NFL stadium where a player goes from turf or artificial turf to something as slick as ice.. That said Bush slid on his butt and hit the side wall with a slight impact. If that slide and wall kiss tore his ACL then Bush’s body is so brittle that he needs to retire because there was barely any impact..

  14. It’s actually a good move on the Rams part.
They are still rebuilding, and except for Gurley, they are unlikely to lose important players.
Other teams can lose star players, so it makes sense to keep the stadium the way it is.

Ok, lets be real. Doesn’t the NFL have a policy about safe playing areas? I guess not.

  15. I am sorry but I won’t agree with this generation of whining excuse makers. Reggie Bush (and I like him) has unbelievable ability to cut, turn, change speeds etc., so why couldn’t he pull up when he ran out bounds? You know I’m right, watch the play… he had 15 yards to turn or slow down. It is terrible that it happened, but 100’s of games were played there before. Go to any HS Football game (outside of rich, spoiled Texas) and the fields are in horrible shape with brick walls at the field’s edge and the game goes on. I am not saying prevention is not worth a thought ,but 1 failed ShoeBomber tried something stupid and now we still take off our shoes at airports 10 years later. Not everything can be prevented, but c’mon already.

  16. pfft, whatever, good thing these millionaire wimps never played on astroturf in the 80’s and 90s. that was literally like playing football on concrete.
