PFT, and others, have reported that the Chargers are shopping veteran safety Eric Weddle. The Chargers have contacted PFT to dispute that information.
A Chargers spokesman tells PFT there is “absolutely no truth” to the reports, that the Chargers have not considered trading him, and that they will not be trading him.
It’s a surprising position for the team to take, given that the Chargers are 2-6 and that Weddle is in the last year of his contract. Also, Weddle skipped the voluntary portion of the offseason program, resulting in some acrimony between player and team.
PFT’s source original source on the story reiterates that the Chargers have indeed been shopping Weddle. And why shouldn’t they be?
He likely will be leaving at the end of the season. What’s the harm in seeing what they can get for him now?
