Vernon Davis: I have to get acclimated to winning again

Tight end Vernon Davis took a fast trip up the standings this week when he was traded from the 2-6 49ers to the 7-0 Broncos.

It’s not the first time that Davis has been on a winning team, but the tight end said it is taking some getting used to being on a team with championship aspirations after spending the last year-plus on a 49ers team that saw its contending window close more rapidly than most people anticipated.

“I know what it feels like to win and to be on a team that has that winning spirit,” Davis said, via the team. “Not too long ago we were able to win some games, and I still feel that, I can feel it a little bit. I just have to get acclimated to it again because it seems like it’s been so long. But I can imagine that it’s intense, it’s exciting, everyone is playing together as one, and there’s a lot of love.”

Davis said he feels well physically and expects to play a role on offense in this week’s game against the Colts. That would give him the opportunity to face his brother Vontae, who plays cornerback for the Colts and will be trying to stop his sibling’s new team from making it though the first half of their schedule with an undefeated record.
